Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Well... my dream Poly wedding happened on Tuesday at Luau Pointe. The rain held off just long enough for us to say "I do". Ukelele player was amazing... highly recommend getting married at the Polynesian if you love it as much as we do!!!

You look gorgeous. What a beautiful gown and bouquet! Congratulations and best wishes! :tink:

Hello folks! Does anyone know if the still rent the "cabanas" at the oasis pool for the day? i was interested in getting one when we go in april. Thanks

We are staying at the Poly this week (Mon-Fri) and are going to try to catch early am hours at DHS on Tuesday which start at 8 am. I know there’s a bus but do you think an Uber might be worth it to lessen wait time & can Ubers pick up right in the lobby?

Also is it hard to find a place to get lunch or dinner on poly property without a reservation? In years past there were A couple casual places we could grab food - not fancy - I recall a lounge type place? But now with the crowds I wonder if they still have walk up availability?

thx for any advice - First stay at the poly in maybe 5 years?

Curious to hear the answers and I hope you can report back a bit after your trip! I’m also wondering how easy it is to sit down and eat just spur of the moment as we’ll have kids with us and I don’t want to pre-plan too much dining. I hope you have a fab stay!!

Yes you can! The patios are available for rent at the Oasis pool and I believe there may be one available at the Lava pool, but I'm not 100 % sure about that one. You can call to reserve in advance.

We took rideshare to DHS when we went for early morning last month and it was totally worth it for us. There were a lot of people waiting for the bus so we opted for uber and it worked great.

We never tried to get lunch there other than at Captain Cooks but we did do a walk up for Kona for dinner (we wanted items that weren't available to go) and I think we waited 30 min? We just did the join the walk up option and enjoyed the lobby till it was time to be seated.

Thank you - incredibly helpful!

You might be thinking of the Tambu Lounge, which has a small food menu. The quick service is Capt. Cook's, and there's a grab-and-go counter called Kona Island. The table service Kona Café may have walkup availability or room for a last-minute ADR (more likely than 'Ohana, anyway).

We were there for the second half of last week (Wed 3/9 to Sun 3/13), and of these, my favorite was mobile ordering from Kona Café. In the app, it's Kona Café to Go: You essentially get table-service food to go, and you can eat it only steps away in the seating area outside Tambu (or take it outside, or back to your room, or wherever). We didn't try to get a table, so I don't know how difficult it would have been, but mobile ordering suited our needs perfectly well. If you prefer to try for a table at Kona first, you can still keep the mobile option in mind as a backup plan.

One note: Either the mobile ordering menu is missing a couple of things that the table service menu has (specfically, the dashi bowls, which they might not have a good way to package for takeout), or they were just out at the time we ordered. Since the only plant-based entree on the menu is one of those dashi bowls, that might have been an issue for a vegan or vegetarian eater (the menu is mostly sushi or meaty sandwiches). But otherwise, it was a nice option and worked really smoothly.

Additional casual food options include the pool bars and the Tiki Terrace (or Trader Sam's, if you can make it in). The Tiki Terrace started serving at 3 when we were there, and they had a small food menu. The pool bars serve food until 8, and we had a fantastic salad. Much better than we expected at a pool bar.

Kona's insanely easy to get walkup availability at, especially for lunch/dinner. My table was ready once before I even got halfway there from my room at GF.

This is incredibly helpful - thank you! I’m guessing we’ll be using mobile ordering from Kona quite a bit! And good to know there are a few other options as well!

We will be at Poly DVC side the week leading up to Easter. Given that the parks will be full/crowded, which would be the fastest way to get to MK? Hoping for Tokelau. I heard it's quick to walk to TTC and hop on ferry, but if super crowded is it still quickest way due to all of the crowds?
It's very quick to take the ferry from there. If you're walking off all your Dole Whip, you can also walk through the Grand Floridian - not as quick but certainly scenic!

I feel like the food at most of the Poly locations is pretty decent. From Capt'n Cook's to the pool bars and Trader Sam's outdoors, you really cannot go wrong. My son would cut a tiki for the coconut meatballs at Cooks. I love the tacos at Sam's.

The Poly is THE BEST place to do a quick dinner on the fly. Capt'n Cooks has wonderful meals (noodles, Thai Coconut meatballs, and even the burgers are great), and I love Trade Sam's outside. The pool bars are also yummy.

Disney Vacation Club announces plans for a new tower at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Disney Vacation Club has today announced proposed plans to develop new Disney Vacation Club villas at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
New Disney Vacation Club Villas tower 2024
New Disney Vacation Club Villas tower 2024

The new tower will be built on the site of the former Spirit of Aloha Dinner show at the Luau Cove with a planned opening in 2024.

Here is the full press release from Disney Vacation Club.

“It’s no secret that our Members and Guests love the monorail resorts at Walt Disney World,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “Expanding our Disney Vacation Club offerings at the Polynesian would give our Members and Guests yet another incredible option for staying close to the magic while making vacation memories that last a lifetime.”
Inspired by the early concepts for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the Imagineers of today are honoring the past while furthering the resort story with this innovative addition. Projected to open in late 2024, the proposed vacation ownership property would complement the existing resort and evoke the spirit of the Pacific Islands.
Situated on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, the proposed property would join the rest of the resort in offering stunning views of the Magic Kingdom. Proposed plans would offer additional rooms, new recreation offerings and dining options. More information and project details will be shared at a later date.
Since 2015, Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows has been a favorite resort destination, offering an island paradise in the middle of the magic. Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows currently has 380 Disney Vacation Club villas, including the largest Deluxe Studios at any Disney Vacation Club resort at Walt Disney World and unique two-bedroom Bora Bora Bungalows, located over the waters of the Seven Seas Lagoon – the first of their kind at Disney.
