We are staying at the Poly but in a deluxe room with a standard view. Can someone tell me how these rooms are? From what I understand they are part of the DVC area. Are those rooms far from the main building?

Do you mean a Studio? There are no resort rooms in the DVC area, just Studios.

If you are in a studio, they're over away from the GCH, mostly toward the TTC.

Thanks for the responses! Sounds like I need to secure a couple extra days of work to pay for park hoppers!:) Merry Christmas all!!

Yes studios...

We stayed in Tokelau during our stay in September. The rooms are awesome and we were no longer than a 5 minute walk to the main building and 7 minutes from the TTC. It was a perfect location. We requested it again for our stay in 2 weeks!!

After a streak of 3 trips staying at the Wilderness Lodge, we are making the switch to the Poly for our upcoming Jan/Feb.

I didn't realize that there was going to be construction at the resort and the monorail is on the schedule for service through January. The reason we are switching from the Wilderness Lodge is because we had a bad experience with construction last fall. Is anyone there now or was there recently that can provide some info about the construction status?

We would also love a partial water view. I was thinking we could request a view of the Contemporary or Grand Floridian. Is this the right way to make a request to have a chance at a decent water view? Anyone have a better idea of what to request? We would also like quiet as our kids are usually asleep by 9 at the latest.

Am I being reasonable or is this too much to ask for?

I am here now for our very first Poly stay and we love everything about this resort! There is construction but we have not heard any. I suspect this is because it is Christmas time. It is mainly in the area of the DVC long houses so you should be fine.

We are in Samoa and love it. We are on the 3rd floor and we overlook the pool, the boat dock, and the if we look right we can see the beach and lake. There are trees there but you can see through them. We have very much enjoyed watching fireworks from the beach the last 3 nights with the music piped in!

The dole whips are huge and the monorail access to both Epcot and Magic Kingdom can't be beat.

The only downside to our room is the pool entertainer. She is loud and we do hear pool noise. However, we all managed to fall asleep just fine during our mid day breaks so she isnt horribly overbearing. It is never an issue at night. You will hear the horns on he boats though. They honk those things like crazy. We wear ear plugs to fall asleep but my boys sleep right through it.

I chose not to stay in a longhouse by the marina bc I was worried about Luau noise. I can't hear it at all in our room.

This resort is very small so it really isn't far to get anywhere. However, we love this location for the pool and captain cook access.

My only complaint about this resort having come from POFQ is the sinks in the bathroom. I can't stand not being able to wash out a mug or wash my hands while someone is in the bathroom. I have 2 sons and a husband so if someone is in the bathroom I can't get in there at all. But that's my only complaint!

So it looks like we are switching to the Poly from the WL for our August trip. Booking a standard view room. What do you recommend for being close to food and transportation? We don't care about the view too much, as we aren't in the room much. We do a lot of MK and do take occasional afternoon pool breaks.

We were in Aotearoa earlier this month. Convenient to GCH, boat dock and pool. A bit of a walk to the TTC though, but manageable.

We stayed in Rarotonga. It's very close to the GCH, and we had a view of the monorail. I can't remember what floor we were on, but we had a balcony and lots of foliage, so we could barely see the parking lot.

Just back from a VWL/Poly split. There was more construction at Poly than at WL - so be aware of that going in! Are you in a room or a studio? The regular rooms had something going on with a cherry picker outside every day, but nothing major. It looks like they're also adding balconies to the floors of the longhouses that never had them. That was noisy. The biggest construction area is the quiet pool area between Samoa & Tokelau, which we did notice construction noise at.

A Water View is a paid category at Poly for both rooms & studios (Lagoon View) - so unless you booked that category there is no guarantee of getting that. You can always request it, but if its important I'd make sure to have Lagoon View booked. Standard rooms/studios face the grounds, the monorail, the TTC. There are some with partial water views. I've never seen it worded as CR or GF view, I'd just say "water view" and hope for the best!

Have a good trip!

That would be so great! Unfortunately, Tikiman has reported that they are just replacing the supports, not adding 2nd floor balconies.

HI!!!!!!! I know I've been away from the boards for awhile - don't worry, still hitting up the mouse 4-5 times a year! WAIT A MINUTE - 11 MONTH OLD?!?!?!?!?! Was this a Disney souvenir?!?!?!??!

Haha, not quite!! He was definitely a surprise though! He was born in January. He will be 1 in 2 weeks!! This year has been crazy. :)

Sitting here right now running numbers...... For March Amy and I can stay in a royal room at POR for four nights for about half of what three nights in a standard room at the poly is running me with the AP discount. I could more than pay for food with the savings but I don't want to give up the convenience. I have my TA trying to move our dates and add a fourth night at the Poly right now. Darn you AP's you make is so seductive.........

I'm thinking about splitting our stay between the Poly and the BC this summer. Last year we stayed at the Poly in a standard room in Samoa. This year we'd be staying in a studio villa. Which building should I request?

TIA!

We are scheduled to check into the Poly DVC this weekend. I just received an email message about the monorail. "The monorails may be on modified service and or routes during your upcoming visit. If your plans include using this form of transportation, please check to be sure that they are your best option for you on your day of travel. Rest assured we will have other transportation options available to you."

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to check like on the my Disney experience app? Just don't want to walk to the monorail only to find out that it's not running and then need to walk to the boat. Thanks.

38 days for us (from today). Guess we are there the same time. I am hoping to surprise my kids the day of the trip. It will be their second trip to Disney and our first stay at the Poly. I can't wait!

Hope the time goes fast for you! The Poly is an awesome resort, you're going to love it! Have a great trip :wizard:.

20 days until our first ever stay in a Deluxe. Reading all of this has made me glad we picked Poly!!!!!

Have a great time and enjoy the Poly :goodvibes.

You will love the Poly! We had 2 stays at the WL before our Poly stay and while we still love the WL, the Poly became our favorite the minute we checked in :goodvibes.

We love Samoa as it's just steps from the volcano pool, the beach, the GCH, and Captain Cooks :thumbsup2.

I can't answer about the monorail/app, but wanted to say I hope you have a great trip :jumping1:.

Hey, Mickeynut!! How was your Christmas? I had a wonderful one, and now it's time to concentrate on Disney again! Lol.... Actually, my DD gave me several items related to Disney, so even my Christmas was about the Mouse in a way...
I haven't posted in forever, but decided to come on and check the Poly thread because my sis and I have moved our Jan. stay there, and we are excited! I know the Ceremonial House has been redone and for sure the rooms are new since we last stayed there several years ago. Anything else happened new there lately? I know you love the Poly and keep up.
