Disney's New "Magic your Way tickets" in 2005 Packages

Mary has the advance purchase prices up on Mousesavers.com right now. That's where I found the prices I quoted.

That site is much easier...so for me, who likes a 4 day park hopper, it has gone up from $213 advance purchase to $250 advance purchase (no expire). So,tkt prices have gone up.

Thanks so much for posting the link!!

edit: oops, just figured out it is the same as Mary's site and not yet advance prices. So much to take in quickly!

OK, I gotcha Christine. How about purchasing a 10 Park ticket w/ No expiration option. $309 +tax. You could get a few trips out of that.

Yes. That's true. If you are within that 45 days you'll have to prepay the current package rate though, right? How long would it take them to refund the difference? I leave on 1/11.

NO - you wouldn't have to pay a penalty. The penalty is waived in January and February.

I was thinking the same thing!!!! :earboy2:

Oh Boy !!! I just did a mini spreadsheet comparing comparable tickets and pricing.I used the best prices I could find, Hotwire for park hopper plusses and Ticket Mania for Disney Quest. Here's a short version of what I came up with. Mind you, If your anything like my family then you will never use all of the plus options. So the new tickets may be a better idea but as much as I love love Disney,Me thinks this is a way to hide an extreme price increase. The Hotwire prices include delivery and the plus options. The second price is hotwire with plus options and 1 DQ ticket from Ticket Mania. The price next to the Disney tickets is the difference between the two.

Hotwire tickets w/ delivery and water park plus options no expiration
Adult Child AD-w/DQ Ch w/ DQ
5 plus 2 $248.27 $ 199.38 $269.27 $218.38
6 plus 3 $276.07 $ 221.42 $297.07 $240.42
7 plus 4 $302.90 $ 242.51 $323.90 $261.51

Disney advance purchase w/ tax and plus options including DQ no expiration
5 plus 3 $320.56 $ 281.16 $ 51.29 $ 62.78
6 plus 4 $332.28 $ 292.88 $ 35.21 $ 52.46
7 plus 5 $344.00 $ 304.59 $ 20.10 $ 43.08

Ticket mania Disney quest 1 day pass
$ 21.00 $ 19.00

This is also a way of Disney getting you to buy more days or stay more days. If you look at the 5 to 10 price difference its not alot. So if your going the non expiring anyway you might as well buy it for 10 days, price really comes down per day.

I personally dont think I will be able to leave off the park hopping option, we just love doing one in the morning and a different one in the evening. But proablaly wont buy the Magic pluses.

We were planning a short 5 day trip in May this makes it so tempting to stretch it to 7 or 8 days. This should hurt the non Disney parks I would think. An 7th day at Disney is $4. Or $55.00 at one of the other parks, times how many tickets you have to buy. ouch!!

I was comparing apples to apples. I did not realize that Mary's prices were listed as the advance purchace discount tickets until I checked other web sites. We always "hop" the last day or two of our park visits so we would need the hopper add on. It would have been nice if they would have permited single day hopper add ons but I suppose that would have been a ticketing nightmare for them. From what I have calculated for the 4 and 5 day tickets (what we need because we have a day left over with 4 plus options) I would pay $19.17 more for the 4 day Magic, I would save $2.13 on the 5 day magic and with the the PH any left over days (I don't expect to have any though) would not expire. I think I did the 7 day correct and with the 7 day Magic I would pay $38.71 more and with PHP you get I think 4 plus options and any left over days would not expire.

Since everytime I calculate package vs doing it myself I come out ahead on the doing it myself I'm going to ASSume that will still be the case unless someone shows me different.

I had planned on purchasing PH tickets for my husband and daughter and then maybe getting an AP if I was able to wrangle a AP hotel discount. Now since they will only be selling tickets PH tickets thorugh January 02, I may have to make a decision to gamble on one of the tickets. Just my luck that June AP room discounts will probably be released in March of April.

Wow! I take off a day from planning my vacation, and look what I miss! This is what I get for actually working yesterday instead of reading about Disney!

I was wondering how long before someone noticed this! I think this MAJOR new ticket structure is designed to compete with the 7-day/14-day tickets beings offered by Universal/Sea World/Busch Gardens, which allow lots of visits in a one or two week period at a low price compared to Disney tickets. Disney's policy of having no-expiration tickets was making it impossible to compete with these low prices. Now, they have a new product to go head-to-head with Universal.

I agree with all of the people who say this new structure is *way* more complicated. I think Disney will have a lot of headaches over this.

I can just see myself ending up with a whole wallet full of different ticket types, and every morning asking myself, "Do I want to use my non-park hopper 10-day ticket today, or the 7-day park-hopper with no pluses or maybe my old 7+4 park hopper plus?"

The way I'm seeing this, our leftover days from last year's PH are virtually worthless now? We each have one day left, but the new tickets, with advance purchase, cost only $1 more for six days versus five. So, my "leftover days" are worth only $1 each now? And I thought I would be saving money by buying that extra day for future use!

Well, technically your tickets are non-transferrable, but there is really nothing stopping you from giving all of those 1 day tickets to one family member, who can use them all instead of buying a new ticket. (It's only illegal to SELL partially used tickets -- letting a family member use them is legal.) Also, you can use the plus features on the old tickets, during this or a future trip.

We are planning to go next Dec. We already have our ressies for 12/1 - 12/10 :cool1: (had to postpone them from this month due to illness). My initial intention was to get a 5 day plus hopper, which would give us a park or attraction for 7 days. With this new ticket and all the options, I THINK I am going to leave off the "plus" features (with a 7 day base ticket, you would get 5 attractions - I DON'T like the water that much! :earboy2: ) BUT since the base prices are so reasonable, we could add actual PARK days instead!! The option to hop is a no-brainer................IT'S A MUST!! :flower1:

Now this whole dining option has me REALLY thinking!! :hyper: To be able to eat in Disney, for $35 a day is great...........and you can trade one meal in for a character meal!! Plus that :mickeybar ! We bought them daily in 2002! Lots of figuring to do.........thank goodness for a calculator! :jumping4:

kutchyone, I'm still finding that it's cheaper to do the components separately, versus a package, if you get a room only discount. At least for our group however, the price gap has closed somewhat, making the cost of a package not much more than doing it all myself...mainly, I think, because of the dining option.

Since everytime I calculate package vs doing it myself I come out ahead on the doing it myself I'm going to ASSume that will still be the case unless someone shows me different.

We plan on going to the park 5 days, two of those we know we will want to hop, AK day and last day. I really wish I had two days left over on my old tickets. I would then purchase a 3 day Magic Your Way base ticket at $182.12 with tax. That is the only way that I can see saving money for my family and our situation.

JudyS, I think this is what we'll do! We'll see.

Thanks jcmom for figuring it out for me. I can't motivate myself to do it. Now I have to hope on the room discount. I suppose I may have to gamble on waiting to see about the AP. At least I will only loose $19.17 if I don't by my 4 day PH prior to 01/02/05 and end up having to purchase a 4 day Magic with hopper privlidge. Let me know if you run any other numbers.

But the Alamo 3 day hopper with a plus is only $178 -- isn't that a better option for you instead of the Magic My Way 3 day hopper?

It probably would if I had two days left but I only have one day left with 4 plus options on tickets for my daughter and I and we need 5 days total. I was playing the wishing game.

Don't you have to rent a car in order to get that deal from Alamo?

That's idea! Thank you!! Hmm, is that close to an AP rate? I know an AP last just a yr, but if it is really close it would be worth it for the room discount...or maybe I just have to find someone to go with me for 5-7 days one yr!! :)

This was a banner yr for me for mail and email codes, but that's rare...usually it's more like one every few years - which I never used. This yr I 'll have gone 3 times due to the codes and even finally stayed at GF :) I thought I was spolied by the other monorail resorts, but after GF if I stay on the monorial it'll have to be there!

I was sort of thinking along this same line. It might be worth having both a non-hopper and a hopper pass for everyone. We've done PAP the last couple of times we've bought Disney tickets, but I could see us only doing a day or two here and there for the next few years.

We definitely hop more often than not, so would probably go with that option if we only bought one set of tickets.

I also wonder if this complicated ticket scheme will last or just be another thing Disney tries and abandons. I could see Joe Public who's never been to Disney World before showing up at the ticket booth and trying to understand all this.
