Disney's New "Magic your Way tickets" in 2005 Packages

We have never park hopped and have yet to buy a PLUS ticket, as we wouldn't use them at all....we always go in the winter, nor are we interested anyway. So, the new prices would work VERY well for our family. Also, many people go ONCE, ever, so it would work well for them as well too since they wouldn't have to add the no expiration date fee. And if you really have to budget, you simply don't hop!

I think I have calculated this correctly:

A current 4 Day Park Hopper with tax is $215.13, the Magic Your Way 4 day ticket with the Hopper but without the No Expiration Option and tax would be $234.30, an increase of $19.13.

A current 5 Day Park Hopper with tax is $244.95, the equivalent Magic Your Way 5 day ticket with the Hopper but without the No Expiration Option and tax is $242.82, a savings of $2.12.

I would appreciate someone checking my numbers. It just appears that that Disney once again is making it harder for me to make

Thanks. Now I have to decide do I buy my 4 day PH now or do I wait to see if I get a good AP hotel discount or not and if not then get burned on the Magic Your Way ticket later. Decisions, decisions!

I'm not sure I'm seeing savings here, perhaps it is because I already use multi-day hopper tickets that do not expire, but all that add on pricing--not something I would find useful or desireable. Seems to me the system just became very complicated and evenmore confusing for a first time travellling family. Pity the person who sets up the vacation with a non-disney expert travel agent!

I'm starting to get that grocery store feeling where there are 600 toilet paper options, I have a coupon for one brand, another is on sale, the disount brand is too papery, some are broken down by price-per-sheet, others by price-per-wipe. Ugh! Which do I buy, which do I buy!!!???

Maybe with the advance purchase discount the prices will be better. I figured out that the difference between a 7 Day PHP vs a 7 Day Magic Your way Premium ticket with the No Expiration Option is $38.71 in favor of the PHP. This is possibly comparing apples to oranges because the PHP were at the advance purchase discount rate.

It may all be clear in the morning, NOT!

It seems that the real difference for us is between these tickets and the AP. I thought the prices were closer together for the 8 day park hopper with the plus options and the regular AP(no plus options). Now we can get just the parks with the hopper add on but no plus options for quite a bit less than the AP. Since we do not do the water parks the new tickets may save us some money. In the past we have went ahead and bought the AP because they were close in price and the hotel discounts made up the difference but now the difference may not be worth it. Interesting.

Will I still be able to use the tons us plus options I have accumulated over the years? If so, I will save money. I can just use all those plus options on old PHP's.

Now, this is the problem... Do I get the 7 day or the 10 day. I would really like the 10 day, but the no expiration option is so expensive.

Sooo, for us 10 days with PH option is $1,320.74 including tax(4 adults & 2 kids). The 7 day PHP's from Hotwire were roughly $1,700, but they never expire.

Well, I think my head is spinning because I'm not sure what I should do.

I think the savings are in the packages. For example: For me, DH and DD5, The Dream Makers package for 4 days 3 nights (For August 2005) is $1172 in a Value resort. Under the new packages I can stay in a Value Resort for 6 nights ($1118) + hop $105 (total for all 3 of us) Total price $1223 . The "plus" option isn't a necessity for me - besides, I have several "plus" tickets around the house from previous years that we never used. Look for yourself......

3-night/4-day Value Season packages
$329 per adult
$198 per junior (ages 10-17)
$158 per child (ages 3-9)

6-night/7-day Value Season packages:
$474 per adult
$213 per junior (ages 10-17)
$170 per child (ages 3-9)

I'm trying to figure this all out. I have already purchased 4 day Park Hopper Plus passes through Hotwire for our planned Aug 05 trip. I read where you can trade in park hoppers at retail value on the new tickets. I wonder if I can do that with the new vacation packages?

If so, it is definitely something we would look into for a week stay. We always stay off site through priceline, but this could bring the values into play big time.

But now my head hurts from all the new information!

I called Disney and was told that if you already booked the Dream Makers Package, you can switch to this package w/o penalty between Jan 2 thru Feb and within 45 days of arrival. So booking a Dream Makers Package might not be a bad idea!!

Yes. That's true. If you are within that 45 days you'll have to prepay the current package rate though, right? How long would it take them to refund the difference? I leave on 1/11.

Never felt it was worth the time or energy required for transportation between parks to HOP, so I am glad to have package options without that feature.

I think the dining option is also a great value, if you tend to eat in that style. Appears with the flexibilty of using 2 full service options for shows and premium restaurants, that even if you do not want to eat your way through vacation and feel like a stuffed piggy, you can choose this option to fix your dining expenses. Use 2 sit down options at HDDR for example and the next day use 2 counter service options for lunch and dinner. Although, I will miss all the posts, "How much for food per person, per day?". Will allow you to 'pre-pay' your meals as well, without the hassle of getting vouchers from a different source.

Haven't put pen to paper yet, but I feel this will be a great savings fo my family. Was looking like an '05 trip would not be in the works.....now I have to do some more thinking!

I am so overwhelmed with the new tkt options I can hardly think straight. Why would they come up with something so darn confusing??? When it's this confusing many mistakes will be made, tkts purchased not what was really wanted/needed and lots of headaches and worries for many folks.

Disney has essentially lost the money I spend there 3 or 4 times a year because it will not be worthwhile to go for long weekends any longer. I cannot go for a week, so I see my Disney vacations becoming possibly non-existant. It's depressing

Thanks goodness for mouseavers.com (& DIS and Tagrel) because I might never go again if I did not receive Mary's emails - therefore the hope of a possible Disney vacation might be in the far future!

Christine if you went 3 or 4 times a year, I'm assuming you have an AP. I thought they were still offering AP's, so this new ticketing option should not effect those people that want to buy AP's.

For those people that want more park days without the plus options, this seems to be a winner. I had even considered the FITS, but this will work better for us. Not to mention cheaper.

Nope no AP - could not afford the cost at one time - it's easier for me to spend less at the time of each trip. Also, I never really know when I'm going. Might not be for 2 yes and then a few times in one year. I usually meet a friend so not travelling with family - no grandchildren yet and take my godchildren every few years.

If I knew I'd be going more than once in a yr I would definitely get an AP.

If the new plan works well for families (or anyone) who go once a yr or even once at all then I am delighted for them! I'm really, really happy for anyone who will save money and be able to enjoy WDW

The way I'm seeing this, our leftover days from last year's PH are virtually worthless now? We each have one day left, but the new tickets, with advance purchase, cost only $1 more for six days versus five. So, my "leftover days" are worth only $1 each now? And I thought I would be saving money by buying that extra day for future use!

Use the day left on your old PHP for a day's admission, not as a credit towards the purchase of a new pass. The value is still one day's admission, and as of 1/2/05, worth $58+......Not quite worthless, you see!

Do you mean to "trade it in" so to speak? I hadn't thought of that, but then I couldn't do advance purchase, right?

Advance Purchase of a 6 day Hopper is 222.00
Regular Price of a 6 day Hopper Plus is 276.00 (because our passes have 4 plusses each, which we would "lose" on trade in)...minus 58.00 for my pass...I would still be paying 218.00 making my pass only "worth" 4.00???

Did I figure that out right?

If you meant to actually use it to get into the park, that's how I was figuring that it would only be worth $1. We would probably do six park days, I could advance purchase five days for 221.00, or six for 222.00...right? So my pass would only be "worth" $1 that way?

I can't figure out how it can be worth much of anything to us. Am I doing it wrong?

I guess I'll just save them in case I ever go for only one day? Not likely, LOL. If you think of all the people with one basically worthless day on their tickets...that adds up to a lot of $$$.
