Disneys Hollywood Studios about to change forever

I think you are on the right target. Why would Disney go ahead with Avatarland when they is nothing new to get people reinterested in it? I mean how old is that film anyway? It really didn't hold the majority of people's interest over the years like Star Wars or Cars. Carsland or Star Warsland would be huge draws for years and years to come and exactly what Hollywood studios needs
It's not about the interest in the movie it's about the story behind the movie. The idea of conservation of nature conservation of animals that's the whole idea behind AK.

I hope they make the changes. I love Pixar and Star Wars. I am not an Avatar fan and hope they scrape that idea.
Do you not realize they have leveled an entire park of that theme park and moved the FOTLK and are doing a lot of infrastructure to that park for this project. If they scrap the idea they would need to have something fast or they are in trouble. AK needs new and exciting things I think avatar can bring that, yes the movie wasn't great but it's about the experience in the park not the movie.

Sequels to Avatar are in the works and the first should hit theaters around the same time as the park addition is finished. This should renew interest at least that's what Disney is banking on.

I'm sorry I wasn't aware that my bellyaching about the state of attractions that I may never see again on my family's first and very likely last trip to Disney was humorous. I have been planning this for 2 years and was unaware of the inconvenience the state of Disneyworld's older attractions had caused frequent travellers to experience. I guess as someone who doesn't go every year my concerns should be kept to myself.

Take the plunge and go. You get one chance in life to show your kids a good time than tell them what used to be there.

Highly doubtful on avatar. Hyperion wharf didn't get as far in as this is. Yes it had concept art and was announced but avatar has leveled an entire area of AK. I haven't heard anything about avatar 2 being pushed back. But AK needs this transformation and disney knows it they aren't going to stop right now.

I agree...

Once dirt was moving, they are committed to building something...

And even if they (some
Would argue correctly) realize that avatar is a big risk to Invest money and operational funds into...they would have to have another plan to be built immediately over there and there's no confidence that they could...

Avatar is getting built...damn the torpedos

Backlot tour closed last night and today the signage is already gone.

A good day for all of us...

At least in perception...
How long has catastrophes canyon been blamed for no development in the ghost town at the back of the park?

They always "needed the ride capacity" or held it in reserve when it would be closed for periods.

Nothing to hide behind now...you either build or your just a bunch of cheapskates who don't want to pay for the operation of your park.

Not that they necessarily care.

Avatar is coming. I've never seen the movie and really have no interest in it but Avatar is a "safe" expansion. Animal Kingdom needed a boost. No one is going to avoid or not go to AK with the addition of Avatar. It might pull more people in, either Avatar fans (there have to be some out there) or people who would have skipped AK in the past. I know a lot of people skip AK because it's a half day park and "we have a zoo in our town." (yup, I've heard it.) Pandora will probably entice more bodies through the turnstiles because suddenly it's worthwhile to spend one of your precious Disney days there.

A lot of us would have loved to have seen the original mythical creatures land, and I guess to some extent Avatar is mythical, but really, Disney had a lot of unused land in that park. It makes sense to develop it into something. May as well be something with a budding franchise behind it.

We'll from what I've been hearing some serious investing might be coming to DHS which is really good for all of us.

Trust only the shovels...

T.O.T.S.

There is one of the best philosophies available.

By following it I think we can feel pretty confident in Pandora/Avatar.

Not yet confident that anything big will actually happen at DHS. Remember, this was all going to happen a year ago and the plug got pulled. Starting to close things is a start, but public announcements/construction is a must.

Wouldn't it be fun if they didn't actually tell us what they were putting in? Just started construction? There would be rumors spinning for MONTHS! What exquisite torture!

I'd much prefer it...it would show they had just a little bit of excitement/pride in what they're doing...

Instead it's a concocted scheme/schedule
To beat you over the head...

"Coming soon...in five years...a $750,000,000 development for YOU....ok... Maybe 375-425...maybe a third to half of that on site prep...maybe.

The accountants don't "allow" us access to that Info"

Well apparently a few months ago Tom Staggs took the board of directors on an exclusive tour of Carsland in DCA.

In DHS it is said that just hours after the backlot tour closed the tanks in the explosion scene in the beginning is completely empty water is drained.

So far from what I've heard from insiders who have gotten things right in the past is TSMM expansion is coming, a cars attraction is most likely coming, and more toy story attractions.

Have they run all of that by Anna and Elsa, yet.....? ;)

Frozen is getting a new location for the sing a long that will run who knows how long and merchandise is all over WDW, they are getting an attraction in Epcot. What more could you want. Don't forget we will see a lot of them during the Christmas party as well.

The stripping process for the Backlot has already begun. Props are going to start being removed right away. Expect some time for the area to clear especially with some of these bigger props. Also don't look for LMA to make it through next year.

correct on LMA they need some capacity for the holiday crowds before they close it.

A couple of changes that I'd really like to see made (in addition to the backlot/soundstage 1 expansion) -

Switch Voyage of the Little Mermaid to a Tangled themed show.

Add a restaurant to the Magic of Disney Animation area - would be a perfect fit for an Animator's Palate restaurant in a WDW park.

If possible, build second set of stage pieces for Theatre of the Stars so they can switch up between Beauty and the Beast and Alladin. Maybe add a sixth show and do morning/early afternoon shows of one and afternoon/evening shows of the other. If not, I'm okay keeping it as Beauty and the Beast.

Another relatively small upgrade for The Great Movie Ride -

Maybe take out the Gangster/Western show parts and add more movie set pieces.

Maybe a Pirates of the Caribbean section (and take out the Jack Sparrow walkthrough to add something else). Maybe leverage the Cameron relationship to add Titanic. Maybe incorporate another modern classic like Forrest Gump.
