Hi.

Anybody that has been to Disney's Hilton Head resort - are there restaurants within walking distance of the resort? It seems like I remember seeing a post about a Cracker Barrel restaurant being close by, but my memory may be playing tricks on me.

Thanks for any replies.

There are a number of very good restaurants within easy walking distance, maybe 2 or 300 yards at most. There are a number of others that would be easy walking distance (or biking) but some are across a major road and I'd say up to half a mile or so.

There are also a lot of places I'd recommend that are not within walking. I can't imagine going to HH without a car so hopefully you can try out some of the other places as well.

I agree with Dean. There are a few within walking distance, but I would highly recommend a car at Hilton Head. Too much to see in Harbortown and it's too far without a car, IMHO.

Kingfishers grill, Scotts (seafood) and San Miguel Mexican and an Italian rest, but I don't remember the name. San Miguel is the cheapest of the bunch and has been there the longest. 25 years, i think.

I want to explore Harbortown during our Aug. trip. I've said this prior to our past two trips & never made it. This time, I'm determined! Is it a full day? If so, what is there to do? Specifically, DSs (15 & 8) hate shopping & don't view a day of browsing shops w/ a cooperative spirit (if you know what I mean) Are there historic areas to explore? I know that there is some good dining. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just returned from a week in Hilton Head. It is a gorgeous place. We did go to Harbour Town twice. I'd say if you don't dine there, you can pretty much see it all in a couple of hours. The shops there are upscale and fun to browse.

As far as dining, there was really not a place I could write home about. We tried Old Oyster Factory, and, although the place was very nice, the food was average. The same with Cafe Europa. We did try some fun places that were good and not expensive, such as Guiseppi's Pizza (excellent), Wild Wing Cafe (very good but I tried their spiciest wings and I almost cried) , Aunt-Chiladas (I ate 6 rounds of king crab legs...my best meal in HH).....Big Bamboo Cafe (good food but a bit greasy), the Sea Shack (not very good), Fuddruckers (very good burgers). I wanted to try Maxx Cafe but at the end I could not.

Any other question, I'll be happy to answer.

Dean...thanks for all your help. Hilton head exceeded my expectations.

We loved Big Bamboo and Wild WIngs! The wings were the best we ever had. We had the sampler and got to try 5 different kinds. The ranch ones are awesome!! :)

I liked Cafe Europa for breakfast and San Miguel was nice for lunch.
For great frozen drinks...head over to Frosty Frog! AWESOME!

HH is a great place!

Harbourtown doesn't offer a lot for those unwilling to enjoy the wonders of shopping. There are some nearby historical areas to explore, a great tennis center, golf and horseback riding.

The golf and tennis facilities are right at Harbourtown, horse stables and historical areas are a short drive away. Also plan to visit South Point- you can rent bikes there to get to the plantation historical area and also visit the Salty Dog Cafe.

I don't look at Harbourtown as a full day project, but it is a good way to spend a few hours exploring Hilton Head.

Enjoy!

Ah...Doc. How could I forget to thank you too for your invaluable help in my HH plans.

Once again, thanks for all your tips and recommendations. Hope to run into you one day in HH.

Are there any restaurants offering cuisine local to the region?

Local foods are similar to creole dishes in preparation and when I go 'home' to mount pleasant the best part is getting food prepared the old fashioned way by my relatives (and my uncle who happens to be a chef). The next best thing is restaurants that offer the same kind of food.

You're very welcome, I'm glad we could be of service.
