Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

Upper Floors of Disney’s Grand Floridian Main Building Closed for Refurbishment

While visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort today to check in on the construction area we spotted in the lobby yesterday, we noticed that the upper floors are now behind construction “walls”. Crews were also testing the alarm system throughout the upper floors, lobby, shops, and more as part of the early work. Floors 3-5 are now closed, but the second floor will remain open at this time for monorail access and more. Here’s a look at the lobby building as of this afternoon!

They were doing all this while I was there yesterday.

Also when I was speaking to some Cast Members they said their hoping to keep the chandeliers and the definitely the beautiful tile floors around the lobby.

I can't wait until someone finds out about the tea room....everyone seemed super excited and secretive (thats if it turns out on what they were told). Everyone else so super excited about 1900 Park Fare and they said it was going to open as soon as it was ready. They believe the last things is the GF Cafe and it will temporarily use part of 1900 Park Fare during its refurb. Again, I think we all realize that nobody really knows anything for sure.

Just trying to relay some information. I'am always so grateful for everything everyone posts while I am waiting for my next trip.

Photos below are from 5 minutes ago (I’m a local and visit often).

Walls are up outside Grand Floridian Cafe. Perhaps they’re going to paint the exterior of the main building?

There is a walking path still open so it doesn’t affect much of anything.

Gasparilla entrance/exit traffic was moved to the doors by the bathrooms.

Do you know if Gasparilla Island Grill will remain open during remodel?

Great photos!!! Would rather be at the Grand during construction than waiting it out at home! Thanks again for the updates.

Here you go! It’s actually a screen grab from a short video I took- I love the piano player!

There is no work yet - just walls. Walls everywhere, lol!
They were drilling and banging away yesterday in 1900. I can't wait for the sisters to be back...they were a hoot!!

Cast members were told it will

You mean there’s a chance 1900 could open before Christmas?

Should the lobby refurb be done by December?
Unfortunately, no one knows for sure. If you scroll back over the last couple of pages, you will see reports from people who are there, as well as numerous blogs. Some have heard that the lobby itself will not be refurbished until after the holidays, while others seem to think the lobby refurb is underway. Disney has not made any official announcement, to date, as far as a timeframe goes. Until then, we can only speculate and wait to see how things progress. Hope that helps.

This is why I’m confused. I don’t see how there are conflicting reports of whether refurbishment has already started?

From what people, and the one blog, are being told is that the lobby area (that is currently walled off) is just to hold supplies and equipment for the room refurb and ceiling work going on above - they are not actually working on new flooring/carpets/furniture at this time in the lobby. The floors/rooms above are now covered up, which typically means that rooms will be refurbished soon. The lobby itself, might not be refurbed until 2024. Again, everybody is either speculating, was told by a CM/manager, or it is a rumor, but nobody knows for sure when the lobby itself will be completed. Disney has not made any official announcements yet. I will keep posting anything that is posted online until we get answers. Anyone who is there in the next few weeks and months I’m sure will also chime in with whatever news they find out.

Below is the enclosed walled off area in the lobby… it has wood paneling covering the current rug. Also, the pics show the floors above are blocked off.
