I wish I were still waking up to this view and great balcony! I didn’t want anyone to think I was disappointed in the Grand because of the comment on the mattresses lol. I was just surprised they were different. I have never been disappointed in a trip to GF (not even this last quick weekend trip, although I was disappointed in a few changes in RPC)! I only wish Disney would release more discounts so I could justify a trip back earlier than the week before Christmas! To all of you with upcoming trips, enjoy! I’m sure I’ll be wishing I were at the Grand when I’m at Contemporary for the 50th weekend!

We can sneak over and sit in the lobby during the midday heat? Visiting the Grand is a must do!

Oh and to visit our @Maxie86

Absolutely! Besides, we told Wes (piano player) we would come back to see him then because he's working that weekend will not be there when we are there in December (but he will be on vacation so good for him)!

Just thought I'd mention that when we were at GF this past weekend, the mattresses were different. My DH noticed too. They were still comfortable, but they were not "OMG this mattress is the most comfortable ever" like they were before. I lifted up the sheet to look at the brand, and it was some brand I've never heard of before. I know they have to replace the mattresses periodically, but I wish they had kept the same brand. The mattresses we had over Memorial Day weekend were the super comfy ones. I wonder if they replaced them everywhere or just certain rooms?

Oh,no! Not the mattresses!!! 😫
I’ve always thought that the GF had the best on property.
Hopefully, they’re being replaced with better ones, as one of the many reasons GF, representative of WDW’s flagship resort, can charge more for a room.

chip! chip! Chip away, Disney! 😟

I agree...GF did have the best mattresses on property! The ones we had this weekend were still comfortable (some kind of pillow top) but they just weren't as soft. Maybe some people don't like mattresses that soft, but every Disney loving person I know has always loved those mattresses. I'm just wondering if it's just that one room we were in because the room we had in May in the main building still had the really soft ones?? Maybe those particular ones had to be replaced but there were supply issues getting the other ones due to the pandemic? One can only hope lol! It definitely isn't a big enough deal to keep me from requesting that room again because I love it and the mattresses are still comfortable, I just really loved the other ones. I'm just curious to see if any other GF guests who are familiar with the mattresses notice a difference...

How are the rooms looking these days? Considering booking during Christmas but I worry the rooms will be tired so I'm not sure if I can justify the cost?

Beautiful view 😍 Did you get any sunrise/sunset photos?? Also, may I ask what room number that was? I’d love to add it to the room views. Thanks so much!

All just my personal opinion here, maybe unpopular. IMO, the rooms themselves are fine, absent a few dents/dings, but nothing abnormal for a popular hotel. The fit/finishes have a rather timeless appeal that still look good, IMO. Nice and crisp/fresh look.

But the same can’t be said for the bathrooms, especially the shower/toilet room. The style has just become very dated/cheap looking relative to more modern hotel design trends. The last few rooms I’ve been in had rather gross grout lines/corners, obvious multiple layers of paint (you can tell around door handles, light switches etc), and the space is just very dim. Overall I say it’s passable, just could be better/nicer, especially for the ‘flagship’ resort.

To be clear, the bathrooms don’t stop me from staying there, they just aren’t my favorite. So many other things about GF make it ‘worth it’ for me though.

Sorry to be a downer!

Ditto.
Was going to post but knew he would do it better 😂

We are visiting friends are first 2 days in Florida and then going as a group on the first day of our trip to Epcot. Do my wife and I have to check into the hotel to activate our tickets or can I just upload them onto my phone through the app and use them that way?

Yep you can use tickets. You can load them as soon as you like too. Nice savings!

I agree with this. We are at GF right now and I thought the mattresses are either entirely too "broken-in" or they've been jumped on a lot -- but maybe they've changed suppliers? We have the Beautyrest Disney Plush mattresses on some of our beds at home and they are absolutely more comfortable than whatever is happening on the bed we're using at GF right now.

Also regarding the bathrooms, they are high on my wishlist for a GF refurb. More storage (or more accurately just "storage" since there isn't any) better lighting, updated furnishings. The rooms are not bad but it's really true that overall, GF needs refurbishing.

Since you're all GF lovers, I'll finish up sharing this sweet thing that happened the other night. We were walking by one of the buildings and a dad and two smalls were out enjoying the evening on the balcony. The girls waved, we waved back, then one said "Have a good night" and the other said "Have sweet dreams tonight." I'm still getting teary-eyed thinking of it and I hope they are living an absolute dream on their vacation and will remember this fun trip forever.

Does anyone still know if the option to get a child sized robe to use in the room is still something offered? Is this only club level? Or is this gone with the days of Covid?

I’ve never heard of child sized robes being offered, however I’ve never asked if they were an option. Robes should come with a VGF DVC stay and CL stay, but not sure if they’re back in standard rooms. Maybe someone who stayed recently can confirm. Thanks!
