Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

Oh, i forgot to add we too were in Conch Key facing the park and boat dock. My hubby would look out the balcony and say, first boat is here, lets go down. One time he sat there for about 15 minutes waiting for the first people of the morning with no takers so we went ahead and got a personal boat ride that morning. Took us 2 minutes from room to boat.

This is really making me hope I get my request for Conch!

What room requests/location would you make and why? First GF stay coming up in 22 days and I’m not sure what requests to make if any. I am not familiar with the layout of the GF at all - we are boardwalk area people - I usually request upper floor near elevator since those resorts have super long hallways. We have a garden view if that means anything location wise. Thanks!

How exciting!!!! Here’s a map of the property!!! I think I would definitely keep the close to elevator or maybe even steps request in. When my friend just stayed in December, she was in BPK and was so far into the middle of the hallway! Felt like it took forever to get to her room! That’s just my opinion 🙂 I hope you have a great trip! Please take some pictures for us!

Thanks for the input and the map. I’ll get to studying it lol.

Are the sidewalks accessible from the ground floor rooms? I saw an image and it looked like the patios are enclosed. I have a outer building garden view reserved. I had a ground floor room during my last stay at Poly and loved the ability to exit the room that way with my kids while my husband locked the room up and meet us outside.

I would study the Conch Key building layout. Conch Key is a tiny bit further from the main pool so not quite as noisy, but having said that, the pool area is never that crowded or noisy. Also the entire side that faces the little offshoot of the lagoon, where they store the party boats are garden view rooms and actually have a view of water and the monorail in the distance. Also Conch Key is really close to Gasparilla Grill and close to the walkway to the Magic Kingdom, close to the boat dock to MK and the back way to the bus stop. You can go to touringplans room finder for free, go to GF, click on the individual buildings and click on random rooms to see views etc.
Also its a smaller building than Big Pine Key or Boca Chica so the elevators arent quite so far from the rooms.
I guess I shouldnt be playing it up.......gotta make sure I always get that building on our trips too.

No, the ground floor rooms dont have direct access to the pathways/sidewalks. They probably want the ground floor room patios to have a modicum of privacy therefore they have railings even though its ground level and most have shrubbery in addition to that

Thank you! This was exactly the info I was looking for. That sounds like the perfrct location. I am wavering between making no room requests and hoping I get lucky and put in the main building (I know how unlikely this is lol) and requesting a certain building for location. Conch Key sounds perfect location wise. Appreciate the input.

You will have a marvelous stay at GF!! Have fun.

No, they have individual plastic tubes of everything. You get some in the shower itself and some on the double sink outside the shower room. If she uses up the tubes, just ask housekeeping for more. They will gladly provide. Their Mousekeeping is the best, pre and during covid times.

Thank you!!

Good morning! Here's a slightly long-winded "worth it?" question that I know is subjective but I'm asking anyway since I've never stayed at GF and I know there's a lot of collective knowledge wandering around here... :flower1:

So, I'm fairly resort restless and check my options all the time when I'm planning a trip. This trip there has been *nothing* available at any resort for at least a month for my week (last full week of June). I'm very fortunate that I booked GF when I did but at the time, Garden View was the only option. Today GF popped back up with availability for GV and TPV.

I've kind of been waiting for a LV to pop up since it seems like a good value as it compares to GV, but do I just upgrade to the TPV? Without fireworks, I know it loses some of its value, but I really enjoy a view beyond fireworks and use the balcony a lot, and it seems like the GF TPV rooms would have very nice views! I've been squirreling away $ for a splurge, as I usually do and spend it on a hard ticket event or something, but nothing like that seems to be coming on the horizon during this transition time with the parks. Thoughts?

Is there a particular building people would recommend?

I know Touring Plans' room finder is a mixed bag in terms of accuracy, but I really don't think there's a bad view at GF. It's not like BC/YC where you want to avoid standard. A lot of people would say it's dumb to book TPV with no fireworks but I did it anyway because like you I really enjoy a nice view, and I just wanted to wake up and see the castle on my birthday.

I would book TPV and keep checking for LV to turn up. But even GV will be beautiful if you end up doing that.

Waiting for Military discounts to come out, do they ever do those in the main building?

for a Jan 2020 stay, we were able to get Military Discount for the main building. However, we booked the rooms first (at full rack rate - booked in Jan 2019) and then kept checking for Military Discount as the trip got closer and was (eventually) able to get a discount for all 4 of the rooms we booked.

(note: Military Discount on only up to 3 rooms, used my AP discount on the 4th room)

That’s a tough one! I, personally, might wait for fireworks if it’s a real big price difference... but if the price is right I say go for it! There’s nothing better than sitting out on your patio and looking at the castle at the end of the day! It really is breathtaking!!!
