Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

Yes I do online check in but normally am too early arriving so I still go in to check in. I will see how it goes in two weeks!

We are coming to stay at the Fort in a cabin 6/25-7/2 and have a pre-park opening ADR at Epcot on Friday, 7/1 @ 8:20 am. Can someone tell me the quickest/best way to get there and how much time it may take? If taking a cab is best, how much $ approx would that be? We've always taken Disney transportation (we will not have a car).

Thank you!!
Take the bus from the outpost depot (bus stop near check in). They will begin running early enough to get you to epcot. I would be at the bus stop at 7 am.

We did online check in in November and received a text when we landed in Orlando that our cabin was not quite ready. Then we received the text later saying our cabin was ready and the room number. I did have to go to the front desk to ask about getting the golf cart. Otherwise we could've skipped it

:ccat:Thanks! I appreciate it! If it is not ready we will just get the cart and head down to the boat to the MK.

Anyone know how long I can wait to book a golf cart? I'm not sure if we'll need it, and it's a fair expense I'd rather spend on fishing and archery and pony rides. But I'm worried that I'll decide I want one, and they'll all be booked. Especially since we would want one with three rows as we're a party of six.

TY so much for this idea. I doubt we'll really need a cart on check-in day anyway.
Awesome. I imagine the toddler will be on a lap regardless, so I bet we can fit a two-row cart.

Take the Blue Flag Launch from FW > CR > monorail to Epcot

The 2 Blue Flag motor launches on Bay Lake serving the Contemporary Resort, Wilderness Lodge and Ft. Wilderness begin running at 6:45am daily. They both run clockwise until 3pm and then reverse direction. These launches run until 11:30pm.

Thank you both. :) Looks like we have a couple of options.

Question... DH and DS will be doing horseback riding while DD and I enjoy playground or beach or whatever. We have HDD when they are finished. We will be there in early September. Wondering where the best comfort station or other place would be for us to get cleaned up before dinner?? TIA!!

There is a bathroom directly to the left --as you look at the Front of the HDD. If you are looking for showers, plus restroom facilities, you will need to walk to the camp ground loop. The closest would be the shared comfort station for the 100-200 loop. You will need to bring your own toiletries and towels. Have a great trip.

I am staying at the fort wilderness cabins the first week of June. We will have our cars so for most resorts we will drive. I'd like to take the boat to MK since it's a direct ride. About how long would it take to walk from the general cabin area to the marina? I have no idea from looking at the maps exactly how far the distance is. Thanks!

The length of the Fort from Outpost to Settlement is 1 mile as the crow flies, as the old maps used to show, depending on which cabin loop I was in, I would guess that it would take me 20-30 minutes to walk to the Settlement area. That is at a relaxing pace. I have not done the walk as I usually drive a golf cart or use the bus.

Just an FYI this took 2 hours almost on Saturday afternoon this week... I planned an hour, but the monorails kept stopping and the one did not have air either that we were stuck on the longest... Not sure what the issue was, it was the zootopia monorail. it stopped before every stop like it was a traffic delay. But there was NO traffic before it. I personally would take a taxi and bank on it being around 20 dollars. Also maybe call Fort Wilderness directly and ask about the buses or shuttles I have heard of them offering rides in a van to certain restaurants, just do not remember which.

We are booked with DDP! My party of six (me, DH, 3 DS ages 11, 9, and 6, and DD age 2) will be spending Halloween at the Fort! Oct 30-Nov 4. Anything we should know about the holiday?
Thanks for the tip about taking the boat to CR and then walking to MK.
First trip for me to WDW in 25 years, and first trip for everyone else in the family. Excited!

Goto http://disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/ and search for Halloween. They have tons of stuff going on and TONS of decorations done by the campers. Its a great time!

Thank you for all the information!

I haven't decided if it's too mean to explain that the reason there is so much Disney is because Disney is nearby, but we're staying at a cabin this trip and we'll come back... lol! Maybe we'll tell her before we arrive. Hm.

You can drive in the back way and not tell you are staying at Disney. Just follow the signs to Port Orleans via Bonnet Creek Blvd but go to the light at the end of the road, take a left (to drive straight you go into the Disney Subdivision and Four Seasons) and Fort Wilderness will be up on the Right. You can also take the extra extra back way which is Kissimmee/Vineland Rd and turn left at Winter Garden Vineland Rd (it curves around alot), Turn left at Vineland rd, its all the Disney warehouse and processing area and keep going straight until you see Fort Wilderness on your Right and right after the Bonnet Creek Blvd light. The later way you pass no true Disney stuff, just warehouses a few resorts and ALOT of trees.....

Hi all,
I am considering staying in the cabins for 2 weeks next year (June or July). They look great. My only concern is how easy it is to get around resort internally. We will have a car, and I know we can park in front of cabin. Driving to the parks is fine for us also.
We plan on going for 2 weeks and wonder how easy it is to get to pool for swimming or to store, waterfront area. We don't want to rent a golf cart.

The internal buses are very easy. Just plan extra time to use them. You can always beg for the cabins in the 100 loop (there are only 2 there) but those are normally given to VIP WDW people. But normal people can score them from time to time, you can always request it. The pool is a ok walk - but the boats, trails end, and etc is all right there. 2100 was the closest cabin loop, but those are all gone now. Maybe the next loop down.

Thanks for posting this. I think I'll inquire when we check in and maybe take a taxi. The last thing I want to do is get stuck on a monorail and stress about getting to an ADR. That happened to us in the past when trying to get from CBR to Ft. Wilderness for HDDR. It was my daughter's birthday and we were about 30 min late (along with about 50 other people that were stuck when a boat didn't arrive to bring us from MK to the Ft.) It turned out ok in the end, but it made for a very stressful/disappointing ride there.

It happens :) Monorails stall/breakdown/run behind. So do the buses and boats.

However, there's a big difference between a Sat afternoon (w/ F&G festival) and a pre-park opening.

Should such an issue arise - a call to Disney Dining to notify the restaurant directly will remedy that. They can confirm the issue is legit pretty quickly.
