Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

3 days until our first stay at the Fort! I'm kind of sad we aren't going to get to hang out at the resort as much as I had hoped. What we had hoped would be our "resort day" has now turned into a Frozen day at DHS. I guess we will just have to book another stay at the Fort!

All Disney music, all day long. Love it when I need a Disney fix, which is pretty much all the time!

Tuning in:thumbsup2 Gotta have my Disney fix each day!!!

112 Days and counting~ We are looking forward to the MNSSHP on Halloween Night, the Food and Wine Festival and if we are so inclinded... the first night of the MVMCP... we like to think of it as the Perfect Disney Storm!

Love the cabins, having a golf cart to get around and the peacefulness of the resort! Thanks for this thread, it is wonderful~

What??!! And how did you get so lucky to do all 3??!! Perfect planning!!!:thumbsup2 I'm jealous popcorn:: You'll get to see all the cool Halloween decorations at the Fort....and maybe, just maybe some Christmas ones, too ::yes::

Okay, I called to make reservations for Donald's African Safari and they told me that if we show our dining confirmations to the cm at the gates, that they will let us in early. If anyone knows this NOT to be the case, please let me know so I can cancel our reservations.

Yes, this is true. If the park does't open until 9, there should be a gate open for dining ressies. You will still have to go through the bag check first, then go to the gate. If the park opens at 8, I'm not sure if there is a separate line for dining guest. Did you check to see what time the park opens?

I booked my first stay in a cabin at the Fort today and just got done reading the first few pages of this thread. I am beyond excited and pretty sure Oct 10th will never get here! :)

off to update my ticker....:yay:

:cool1: You'll LOVE it!!!!! For sure!!! Fall is such a great time to visit. Not too hot, not too cool. Perfect.

And the minutes and seconds thanks to my countdown app LOL

50 days 10 hours 15 minutes and 30ish seconds

:rotfl: Ok....I've got to get this app!!!

:dancer:

Have an awesome visit. And no worries about not enough time at the Fort...just reason to book another stay ;)

Are the magic bands working at comfort stations?

Funny thing about this...when we checked in, the CM asked me if I was going to use the comfort stations. I knew I wasn't, but I also knew I wanted to go in and look around just to see. So, she gave me a card for entry. She told me the Magic Bands wouldn't work. HOWEVER, mine did.

LOVE Fort Wilderness!!! Enjoy.

We are heading down from Buffalo, NY in 24 days! Woo hoo!
We, too, are headed to FTW from Buffalo (south of Buffalo actually) on Aug. 1st. Will you fly, drive? If driving are you planning on stopping overnight? Any suggestions? We're traveling with 2-17 year olds and a 10 year old.

I am super excited! We have a Disney Cruise in February. I was hoping to pull off camping at Ft. Wilderness the Sat and Sun night before we go on the cruise.
Has anyone managed in a tent late Jan/early Feb?
Or should I just rent a pop up or something? IDK... the details are KILLING me.

I'm looking for advice about whether to order groceries from Garden Grocer or just buying them from the trading post. How expensive are things in the trading post? I don't plan on cooking meals just looking for quick snacks, drinks and a few breakfast items.

would also love this info. Looking for quick breakfast ideas like pop tarts or oatmeal and then quick stuff like sandwich and of course s'more fixings. Would love to know wether to use garden grocer or does trading post carry these items

Cool! We are driving down towing the trailer. We are camping at a KOA in Virginia the first night and then at a state campground in Florida. I can find out the exact locations if that would be helpful. DH makes all of those plans. I do all of the WDW plans. Let me know if you need the names and locations of the campgrounds. How long are you staying?

'Very' expensive!! Depends on how much you are needing to buy whether you want to pay the GG fee or just bite the bullet and pay trading post prices! :)

You can always price everything out on Garden Grocer. I put our order in a couple weeks ago (cereal, pop tarts milk, pop, water, etc..). They offer a discount if you order it so far in advance. There are a few things I will be packing in our luggage that GG either didn't carry or didn't have the right size (didn't need a huge canister of coffee!!) of, though.

We have used GG in the past with no problems. As mentioned by another, there is a discount if you order in advance. Also, you can have non-perishable items sent via UPS or Fedex with delivery to FW. We do this every visit as well.

:cool1: for a cruise!!!! You will totally love it for sure!!! Since we are "cabin" campers, I'm not sure I can give you any advice on the tent camping during Jan/Feb. We lived in Florida for 5 years, and I can tell you that sometimes it is cold but then it might be really nice. You just never know. If you go over to the Camping Thread, those folks can answer any of your questions about tent/pop-up camping...they're very knowledgeable:thumbsup2

Happy Planning!!!!

:scratchin Well, the prices are definitely higher at the Trading Post. However, you have to order $40 worth of food from Garden Grocer and there is a $14 delivery fee. If you order $200 or more, it's a $2.00 fee. Originally, since we drove, I was going to drive myself to the grocery store. But, I got lazy and just bought from the Trading Post.

We bought bread, coffee, milk, sandwich meat, oatmeal, and mayo at the Meadow. I'm fairly certain they have poptarts. As far as the s'mores stuff goes, you can purchase that for around $9 at the actual campfire. They will give you sticks, a box of graham crackers, marshmallows and 2 chocolate bars. It's enough for 2 nights of roasting:thumbsup2

Well, we are mid visit to our stay at the Fort. To those on the fence about a golf cart; get it! We have seen all the internal buses, and they are plentiful. But taking one step out of the transportation equation has made it easier for our planning.

If I want to be able to walk to the boat to the Magic Kingdom (and the beach for fireworks viewing) what is the best loop to request? We will be camping in a 35 foot travel trailer with our 3 small kids. I am willing to do premium or preferred, but it looks like 100 and 200 are very close and are preferred. 700 is close to and premium. So is it better to ask for preferred and hope for 100 or 200 or is premium so great that I should do that and ask for 700? Is 700 close enough to walk easily? We plan on getting a golf cart too, but I would love to be able to walk to some things. Thanks! We are booking our first stay at the Fort for May 2015 for my son's 5th birthday.

:cool1: Y'all made it!! Hope all is going well for you!!! And yes, that golf cart does come in handy, doesn't it:thumbsup2 Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay!!!

:woohoo: for your first Fort visit!!!! You'll love it for sure!! :thumbsup2 As far as the loops go...

Depending where you are in 700, it could be a bit of a walk. If you look at the map below, we stayed in 2200. It took me 8 minutes to walk from the 2200 to the Meadow Pool...and that was by myself with no kids. Wasn't a hard walk, though...easy.

Here's a link that might help you decide on the type of site you want...

Premium vs Preferred

I know the premium sites have all concrete padding while the preferred sites have some sand. And remember that when you make your reservation, you can totally request a loop preference. They are usually pretty good about granting request.

Preferred site...concrete and sand

Premium site...all concrete

Also, if you have a golf cart, you won't have any worries at all...seriously. You'll love having one because of the convenience.

I'll add you to the list of resort goers:thumbsup2

Happy Planning!!

We go to Disney World every other year. So I am busy planning our December 2015 trip in my head. :) We usually stay at POR, but with it being excluded from free dining this year it has me thinking of other choices. I'm thinking about surprising the family with a cabin!!

So exciting!! I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as we get closer.

Stephanie
