Disney Auctions is auctioning off a CM 20 years
of service pin!

Are they insane? If they are going to start letting
the public purchase CM mdse there is no reason
to have CM special mdse, OR give out special gifts
to the CMs if anyone can just go buy one...
Where is the 'Disney Magic' in that?

Granted the auction states that this is a special
auction from a private Disneyana dealers' inventory,
I don't think this is right... don't sell stuff just
because you have it and you want to make money
off it... it would be ALOT different if the guy was
running it on his own auction site... but not this way!

Makes me wonder if this guy died or something and
he left his "store" to Disney archives and they are
selling off what they have duplicates of! Its a shame!

What do you guys think?

see the auction:

the worst part is that it will sell for 5 times what it should as it is being sold by DISNEY.

I just can't help but think that this is some new "brilliant" Eisner scheme to demonstrate his "versatility" and bringing "new business" to the corporation. pirate:

I wonder what would happen if the CM himself sold his pin on Ebay???????

EXACTLY!
I used to be a DS CM and it was FORBIDDEN!
This is a very good point also!

Appears as long as Disney gets a cut of the profit then all is fine.

Here is some info you may not know.

From the auction page.

Disney Auctions is privileged to offer this selection from Howard Lowery's extensive inventory of Disney memorabilia. A dealer of Disney animation art and related items since the early 1970s, Mr. Lowery has organized more than 50 auctions of original Disney art, Disneyana and other memorabilia. Today he offers items from his inventory via the Internet while continuing to produce public auctions on a limited basis.

Howard Lowery is one of the largest Disney collectors, and dealers of Disney merchandise. He has a contract with Disney Auctions to auction off some of his items. He has some really neat stuff. It is strange to see Disney auctioning off something, cast members would get fired for selling. On the other hand, they onced owed it........guess they can do what they want with it.

Well that's my thought. The award pin was a gift. The owner can do what they want with it. So why get Disney involved?

IMHO this situation only makes Disney look bad. It looks like as long as a CM sale is through Disney, then it is sanctioned.
Whether it be true or not this makes it appear as long as Disney gets a share of the profit the sale is okay.
I think this individual should have just sold it on their own.
If Disney needs to make a buck in this manner, they should stop Ebay-ing and start their own auction site.

I clicked on the link provided above and it seems as though the auction has ended because the seller has decided that the pin is no longer for sale. Maybe all your statements did some good!!

It is nice to see that it is gone. While I don't think it was really wrong for listing a private collection through Disney, I do think it was wrong for Disney to sell something that they won't allow anyone who works for them to sell. They know as does anyone here that by putting the Disney name on it it raises the value of the item by 3 times... That pin while very nice is not woth the high bid at the time of 120 bucks.... It was worth it only as it was thought to be coming from Disney.
