You can also make a request to a CM to go up to the top floor (California Grill) right before wishes starts and have a spectaular view of Wishes. My DD and I have done this a couple of different times and it is absolutely awesome!
Have Fun!

You can still do this? I read on another thread that they didn't let you go up anymore unless you were eating at CG. I hope you still can.

You can't do this anymore! Unless you are eating at the California Grill, you're not allowed to use the outside balconies. You now have to check-in on the 2nd floor if you have a CG ressie. There is only one elevator which goes up to the 15th floor. There is an observation deck off the 4th floor you can use.

I think she meant which end *inside* had the construction for the new gift shop on the 4th floor? Maybe I'm confused.

The construction inside is on the north end of the tower (as Chef Mickey's is on the South end). But if you really want to avoid the noise - request going up. The higher the floor, the lower the noise level. You'll get much less noise on the construction end of the 11th floor than on the south end of the 6th floor.

The other thing is to avoid the tower during the day LOL. While some have said the construction noise never bothered them, we found the interior construction noise level to be intolerable on one day. We were shouting at each other when we weren't in our room. My DS is very noise-sensitive and it was an issue.

My mistake, lol.

If that is the question I can say once the walls of the shop did gp up, all that was effected is walking in the middle. The B.V.G. store was still open along with the arcade and Sundries shop, so it was all a matter of walking around the construction.

Yeah, I was asking about the gift shop construction on the 4th floor. It seems to be affecting more than just the walking room around it though. There's been several posts recently about how loud the construction is during the day. My girlfriend usually spends the afternoon in the room relaxing, so this is a potential problem. Disney is magical, but I don't think they invented a noiseless skill saw yet :wizard: The other thing too is even though you may not see all the construction from the 4th floor due to the construction walls, you can see it from outside your room door while gazing down at the monorails and concourse (something I'm looking forward to doing, always been mesmorized by the monorails going through the lobby!). I'd just like to avoid all that if at all possible. I typically don't spend alot on hotels when I travel, this trip is really a once in a lifetime splurge for me. So, for the cost per night, I'm hoping I can avoid the wonderful view of them working for other's future enjoyment :thumbsup2

It's been along time since I've been in the CR, but isn't there a wall going across the tower in the middle? I thought that was the wall that had the mural on it. I was hoping to request a room on the side that didn't have the ongoing construction. I just wanted to make sure this wall exist that i'm thinking of so i don't sound like an idiot over the phone :lmao: I'll give them a call today and let you guys know what I found out. Thanks for the info though.

Thanks! This was the info I was looking for. Looks like you were writing this post the same time I was writing my last one :)

Well my advice is to try and request a room on the side where Chef Mickey's, Concourse Steakhouse, Temporary Grab & Go and the Outer Rim lounge is. On that side there is no construction going on, however I can not say if you would hear the noise of them building the new store. Last month my parents and I stayed in room 4847 which was on the side where the stores were and from there you could hear the noise.

Another option is downgrading you're reservation to a Garden Wing room, that's if one was available and if you can manage not staying in a Tower room. If you were to stay there the only time you could see the renovations is when you went to the 4th floor.

We were in room 4629 which is the 10th floor. We overlooked chef Mickeys. We really could not hear anything. My brother's family was next door and his children are LOUD but we could not hear them. We were not there that much during that day though.

Don't know if this has been posted or not....

We were there last week and they were not offering the refillabe mugs at the Tempo Grabo. There was not even a self serve beverage machine there. Bottles only.

Just thought I'd let you know...

I have two small 4 year old girls that came back in the afternoon to take naps.
We just came back and were on the construction side room 4741 11th floor. You can hear the construction but it's not loud. The TV easily blocked the sound outside. Just FYI!

I just called to confirm my reservation for tomorrow and update my room request. I had hoped to speak to someone at the CR. In fact the first person to pick up the phone asked if I wanted to be transferred to the front desk or reservation central (?). I said the front desk, but considering the CM wasn't sure about where the construction was going on or what it was, I'm pretty sure i got reservation central. She was pleasant though, and confirmed my reservation. She also added the follow request "would like room near Chef Mickey as high as possible and away from construction". I know there are no guarentees, so only time will tell what room I get.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks to those that posted replies to my initial queation about where the gift shop construction was located, and also a general thank you to every one on this thread. Over the past year it's been a great source of information on the CR. It still hasn't sunk in that I'm only a day away from my dream vacation! :yay: Assuming the internet will still be free as it believe it is, I'll try my best to post a couple updates on construction and answer any other questions on the goings on while I'm down there.

You're welcome and if you can post any updates about the renovation that would be great. :thumbsup2

CR Resort Fan 4 Life - And anyone else who wants to chime in.

I rebooked the CR for next year because of the renovated rooms and the ability to walk to MK, plus the monorail was a nice perk.

Otherwise we thought the resort was kind of boring all the way down to the pool.

So the question is: What is it that you love about CR? Anything besides what I described?

The picture I just posted in my previous reply is what I love most about the Contemporary. How can you beat having a Magic Kingdom view in the Tower?

Renovated rooms and ability to walk to MK are big reasons why we like CR. The view is amazing as well - I love fireworks from my balcony. I don't like having to go outside to get to food and shopping, so that leaves only RPC at GF or WL in the MK area. We actually enjoy the pool area - particularly the smaller one out on the deck. We also spend a lot of time at the marina and CR is the only one that offers parasailing and jet skis.
