Thanks

The 4th floor observation deck, because you can get a shot of the Magic Kingdom in the backround.

We had to cancel our September trip, unfortunately. So if anyone is looking for a Tower MK view room for Sept 22 to 29, there is one available.

So in my uber-obsessing mode, I checked out the reviews at tripadvisor.com and found a recent one where they had problems with the air conditioning. Do the air conditioners really work on a sensor? The reviewer had problems with waking up in the middle of the night because they were really hot and then had to get up out of bed to get the a/c to kick back on again.

Say it ain't so!

We are going in August 0f 2008 too! There will be 12 of us staying in a tower room at the contemporary facing magic kingdom. We are all excited! I sure wish the 2008 packages would huury up and come out, isnt it august 5th yet??? Gheesh!

One way to fake out the sensors in the rooms is to buy a balloon and let it bounce around the room during the night or just tie it to a chair and let it move around in the air currents.

I have to tell you when I first read your "Title" line, I thought you were asking who to call to set up a ride on the monorail I've got it now!

That's so funny!!!!! After I surprise dh with one, I'll have to share this with him. He would think that was hysterical!!

Maybe I should put it in my signature as a joke :-) The more I think about it, the funnier it gets to me.....Or maybe it's just me losing my mind waiting for my next Disney vacation in 30 days.........

I had heard the same thing, only I heard of it happening at the Polynesian. Here's what the helpful DIS-er wrote:
• "I just returned from the Poly and wanted to give a heads up on that sensor that only turns the AC on when there is movement in the room. Last trip we were not happy when we awoke in the middle of the night hot. After reading the DIS I found that there is a way to bypass the sensor. On this trip I called maintenance immediately and someone came right over to show me how to do it. He said that you can bypass it anytime and they get a lot of requests for it. So here is the way to do it: On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow(that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. He, the maintenance CM, then said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours. We found that it stayed on bypass for a couple of days at a time. It was great to come back to a cold room or not wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat again. The CM that did this for us said it was no problem doing this as they do it for people all the time. Guess they get a lot of complaints."

HTH!!

:grouphug: So sorry you are cancelling. I hope you can reschedule soon and all is well.
We really enjoyed your trip report and photos last year.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, we are all fine but my 98 van decided to die on Thursday pm. So, we had to buy a new one and that meant we needed the Disney money to pay for the car. I'm *hoping* we rebook for March for my b'day! The kids took it well, but we promised we would go back before next summer. So keep your fingers crossed that it all works out. I'm just waiting on the 2008 prices to come out this week.

yes, they are on sensors. You can override it. I believe you press the power button and the temp up button at the same time and hold until you get a message. Then, you set the temp you want and it will stay on; might have to do it each day. If the search is working, try searching this forum on air conditioning override.

Well, I've gone and done it. We are booked for two nights 8/17 & 18 for a Tower MK room--$800! Oh my gosh! Please tell me it's worth it! We are spending the rest of our visit until 9/2 at POP Century from 8/26 with free dining. I've always wanted to stay here and watch the fireworks from the balcony. We needed something "new" to do this trip. I'm sorry to hear about the construction though. The CM only mentioned to me the tennis courts and playground.

Hi DS Parks - In my opinion, the view is worth every penny of the cost, and being able to view the fireworks from your private balcony is just something that has to be experienced which will definitely justify the cost, plus I think you will be getting one of the very nicely renovated rooms. I am more than sure, you will enjoy your stay, and will probably book this hotel and room view again.

Have a great trip.

You won't even notice the construction since you're on the MK side of the Tower. At least one night make sure you're in your room in time for Wishes. Turn on the TV to -- I think it's channel 20 -- to get the Wishes music, and enjoy the show from your own balcony (it doesn't hurt to have some snacks ready). About that time you'll also see the Electrical Water Pageant floating around the Seven Seas Lagoon and performing at the GF and Poly before it comes over to Bay Lake for the WL, then the CR gets its show I think about 10 pm, viewable from the east side of the Tower (you can go outside to the beach, pool, or marina area to watch). You and your kids might enjoy just watching Disney World wake up in the morning as the ferries start to run back and forth to the MK and a variety of smaller boats start showing up in the lagoon. The activity out there is amazing. You can watch the monorail trains running and sometimes there'll be people water skiing or parasailing. Yes, I think you'll find it's worth the extra money just for the entertainment value. Enjoy!

Last December when my family and I stayed at the Contemporary I turned on channel 20 during Wishes and they were not playing the music anymore.

I worried about this, too, when I first read about it a couple of years ago because DH is fanatical about thermostat control. The resorts mentioned in the complaints I read were the Poly and the CR, so I took the override instructions from these boards with me on the last three trips we made to the Poly and CR, but never had any problems with the air conditioning at all.

My DH got a charge out of it, too! Considering how often you've stayed at the CR, maybe it *should* be part of your signature.:lmao:

I'm glad to hear everyone's ok, but sorry you had to cancel your trip. I hope you're able to go in March. I just called for May and was able to book 14th floor, even though I couldn't get it for our dates next October (already!). So here's hoping there's a room for you on whatever dates you need!
