Are they still placing guests in the North wing? We are leaving in less than 2 weeks and haven't made any requests regarding room location at the Contemporary but I am thinking about asking for the South wing since it has been renovated. We have a guaranteed non-smoking room due to dd's asthma. What floors/rooms in the South wing are non-smoking? The entire North wing is non-smoking isn't it?

We just did our trip shopping yesterday. Do they allow blow up pool toys in the Contemporary big pool? We bought dd a blow up alligator to ride on.

When we were there, they were still putting some folks in the North wing b/c I saw them walking to/from their building a few times. Also, they were not finished with the South wing when we left on May 6 but I believe it is the very last section left to be refurbished that they were busy working on. It may in fact be completed by now but.... As for which is smoking/non-smoking...I don't know. We just requested (and received) non-smoking due to our daughter's asthma/allergies.

They do allow blow-up toys in the pool at CR. I got the biggest laugh when we were there.....this adorable little girl was so excited to get in the pool and was waiting ever so patiently with her eyes so big and her body just wiggly with excitement as her daddy tried for almost 15 minutes to blow up an animal blow-up float ring. Poor guy just kept blowing and blowing and blowing but to no avail. I am suprised he didn't pass out. The toy had a hole in it and would not keep in the air. The dad looked so dejected but the sweet little girl took it in stride and was happy just to be in the pool.

Also good to note....The first day you get to the CR, you can "check out" life vests for the kids (I think my DH had to show our room key?) and keep it for the duration of your stay so you don't have to keep going back and forth.

Can you go in the elevator to walk around the hallways of the Tower just to see the view if you are not in a tower room? DS liked that about WL, that you could explore and look down at the lobby...I know you can no longer use the viewing area of CG...but was hoping for the non-concierge floors of the tower.
We would be in the standard wing rooms, so while technically guests of CR, not Towere guests...just commoners..LOL!

We were just in the North Wing and got back on Saturday. We have always stayed in the tower, but were unable to book a tower room this trip. I was a little worried we would not like the wings but we loved it even more than the tower.

We were in room 7110 which is on the first floor in the section nearest the tower. I believe it was a lagoon view. We had a patio that we could step out on to watch the water pageant. It was great! It was so easy to walk over to the Food N Fun Center. It was also so close to the bus stop. My family has decided they like the North Wing better than the tower. We walked to MK most days. On Tuesday, it was raining like crazy so we decided to take the monorail and found it to be very easy to access from the Wing. There is no sign of rehab in the North Wing. DH was so excited to have an old room because he loves the drawer space. It looks like there is maybe one or two floors left to rehab in the tower. Work still going on in the South Wing. We took the elevator up to 8 and stepped out to look at the carpet and hall areas. I really liked the new colors.

i have a question about the bathrooms. Im confused on the bathroom door issue and cant find a pic. looked on all ears but didnt see it. question is....

is it the shower door you can see through or the door that goes from say the hall to the bathroom. meaning can you see sihloettes sitting on the toilet or shower from the room? If anyone has a link to pics that would be great. Is the vanity sinks inside the bathroom or outside?

Im asking because it is me (girl) and my sister and brother(14) going on this trip. my brother is 14 and will be mortified if he thinks someone can see him.

Thanks so much for this info! This is exactly what I was looking for. I hope the North Wings stays open till October! I am so glad to hear you liked the North Wing even in comparrison to the Tower. Is it far to the walkway to the MK?

I will attempt to describe the bathroom doors in the refurbished rooms as I don't know of any good pictures of just the doors.

The bathroom is comprised of two rooms.....you enter into the bathroom with the first "room" having two sinks (with a slim glass vanity between them and a long glass shelf underneath them), a vertical towel rack(like a stainless steel ladder) and a tub/shower combo. The tub/shower combo has a white curtain liner and a white cloth curtain on a curved rod (to give you a little extra shower room). Off of this room, directly accross from the sinks, is the water closet which has nothing but a toilet, a robe hook, and a lot of dead space. Now the entrance to both "rooms" has a very large substancial(sp?) sliding door (this thing is quite heavy) that moves on an outside track(leading into the sink/tub area) and an inside track(for the toilet area). This is NOT a pocket door(that slides into the wall). It is a large, dark wood rectangular surround with a thick, frosted, ribbed glass insert and long vertical, stainless steel handle pulls. The door's glass insert does let light illuminate thru but honestly, you cannot see anything on the other side...barely even a shadow...unless you were to press your self right up to the glass.

I hope that helps. Your family should have no privacy issues as long as the doors are closed.

Hi everyone! I am going through and reading this thread, but I just changed our reservation to the CR tower with MK view for our trip, woo hoo! But we are leaving in less than two weeks.

Can anyone give me a few hints about not to miss stuff, or special things at the CR? Like I think I saw something about slushes that you could get in your mug, etc.

Any help, hints, or tricks would be appreciated!

We just got back from our wonderful stay at the CR MK view tower (7th floor). I have photos of the renovated rooms and if you pm me with an email address I will be more than happy to email photos of the rooms to you. Also just a few tips that we learned while we stayed at the CR. The counter space in the bathroom is limited, but we just used one of the sinks as a countertop (we placed one of the glass cups under the faucet to catch any stray water drips) and the mousekeepers never moved our stuff. Also if you have little ones (ours just turned two years old)- be very careful with the sliding bathroom and balcony doors- he almost pinched his fingers several times. The Fun and Food Court has really good french fries (we had those at least once a day ). PM me with questions and if I can help I will.

FYI: Also a great photo op at the CR is outside when walking from main building to the pools (mouse ears with mickey sitting in middle).

I just got back, and I can second that the bathroom doors are not an issue. I was wondering about that myself, although it wasn't going to be a problem for me since I was by myself. But the doors were heavily frosted. I went into the toilet area and put my hand up to it, so that I could see in the mirror in the sink area. I could see it clearly when it was pressed right up to the door. When it was a few inches away, I could see a sillouette (sp?). But when I moved it about a foot away, I couldn't see it at all. So it should be fine, as long as you're aware of what you're doing.

As to what not to miss....you should make sure to catch the Electrical Water Pageant on Bay Lake. It's nightly, weather permitting, usually at 10:05pm, but you can double-check the time with the front desk. I think it might vary based on when Wishes is. But it was the forerunner to the Main Street Electrical Parade, and was started just a few weeks after WDW opened. It's been running ever since. They've updated the music in spots to include newer songs, but I think it's still basically the same show. I'd never seen it before, so I made sure to catch it on Wednesday night. We went out to the end of the pier where you catch the water launches, and that was a good view.

As for the rest of my stay (first time at CR), it was really nice! I got a complimentary upgrade to concierge. I was on the 10th floor, with a MK view (which I had paid for). I think they've got concierge on 10th floor temporarily because the 12th floor is being renovated. It was curtained off, as was, I believe, the 6th floor. So I got breakfast and snacks and desserts. (Delicious desserts!) While I wouldn't pay extra for it (sorry concierge fans), it was nice to have as a bonus.

The rooms were really nice. My CM friend had been doubtful when I booked it (she'd never been in a CR room), but she was impressed with the renovated room. My view was great! I loved looking out over the Seven Seas Lagoon and the MK. And I met a nice little girl on the balcony next to mine.

It's super expensive, IMO, but I had a travel agent discount, so I went for it. (For 2 nights, and 2 at CSR.) But if you can afford it, I would definitely recommend Tower MK view. It's so convenient! 10 minute walk to the MK, and first monorail stop coming back!

I hope I'll get to stay there again!

Have booked the CR for a conference in December. Conference rate is $159 plus tax. I noticed on allears site that standard rooms do not have balconies except first floor patios? Is this correct?

Also, CM at group reservations that standard rooms could be in either wings or tower, and may or not have balconies. This seems to contradict what I have read about the different room types. Can anyone help clear this up for me?

All of the tower rooms have balconies. In the wings, the first floor rooms have patios, and the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms do not have balconies but have sliders with a railing in front of them -- you can open the slider but can't step outside.

We were going to stay at a standard view room but now are in a garden wing view room..I went to disney.com to see the difference but there is not much there. It only says the rates

Standar view: $249
Garden view:$290
Garden wing:$300
Tower:$355

So does anyone know the difference between a garden view and garden wing? Should I request something. First time here and I dont know.

Hi Jenna,

You can get slushees in your resort mug (or in a cup if you don't buy a mug). Unlimited slushees - my dd was in heaven! The CR has pin trading on Friday nights and there is a special section for kids. The arcade is fantastic. You can rent boats and such from the pier in the back. The beach is really nice too. The CR is tops - you'll love it!
