Resort Thread Disney's Club Level (CL) Thread

We just left YC club level Saturday. I used the machine to make tea every day & saw people making coffee with it. Didn't see any signs that it wasn't working. In the morning they also had our the large pots of coffee & decaf. My DH had coffee from there one morning but he said it was pretty cold, he ended up not even drinking it.

Considering YC CL for our next family trip in August. We love YC but never tried CL. I know, we will be hooked, right? Would you mind telling me your thoughts of the CL at YC? Have you stayed at any other resorts CL? It would be nice to have the lounge for our large family to meet in but I want to make sure it is worth it financially as I think with a resort of this size, we probably wouldn't let's say grab a beer from the lounge for the pool, let's say. Thanks for any thoughts.

Question for all the Epcot resort CL pros out there. My wife and a friend are running the Princess Half in Feb. I've been charged with making their accommodation plans (no pressure or anything). Been thinking about an Epcot resort for proximity to the race, likely BWI or BC. It's a girls only trip for them. Other than my one night at BC CL back in July (which she wasn't there for), I have limited experience with the Epcot resorts. I know this is a very subjective question, but between BWI and BC, which would you choose for a girls trip? I would like to book CL so my wife can "scope things out" for possible future trips. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

That is tough as the renovated BC CL lounge is great and they offer the most variety of food with all CLs but the BWI CL CMs are by far the best. The CMs their always make us feel like we are home. Asking about our day - what we are going to do, etc. If there is something that we need -they never have a problem getting it. We LOVE Anita and Lorenzo. Lorenzo is in one of our videos - so so much fun. We get a deluxe CL room because we are a family of 6 and we love the boardwalk view. I love sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee - what a view. The downside is the size of the lounge at the BWI - not pretty big but choose it for the CMs. We also love the night life on the boardwalk - our tweens and teens love it too. I would definitely choose the BWI.

Thank you all for the BWI vs. BC comments for my wife's Princess half girls trip, much appreciated! :disrocks:

So, BWI CL it is (sorry @TJA, you were outvoted!). Dang they are quick with the IPO e-mail, just a few hours after booking. I didn't realize the e-mail would go to my wife, not me. So much for trying to keep that a secret for a bit!

Now, how about a good early spring discount Disney.... :earsboy::earsboy: (not keeping my hopes up given the popularity of the race).

We have stayed at YC club level at least once a year, sometimes up to 3 times in a year for over 15 years. We have loved it so kept booking it. However, I am at the point that I may not book it anymore, but may just stick with a regular water view room. I don't know if I can justify the club level costs anymore (to myself, not anyone else!). I no longer use IPO, preferring to make my own ADRs & other arrangements online. We don't drink & my DH doesn't care for most of the evening appetizers. We like table service meals, so aren't always at the resort during those times anyway. I did the online check in & got the text with our room number. So we didn't even need to check in with the club CMs. We don't change plans once we're there, so never need help from them either. And even if we want to change something, I can do that myself too. Basically, we are paying about $200 more a night for a quick breakfast, desserts a few times & a secure floor. I'm beginning to think I'm crazy to do that!

It is only my DH & myself traveling, so we don't hang out in the lounge. The YC lounge was expanded about a year ago, but it is not huge. There are 2 larger tables that probably seat 5, maybe 4 tables for 4 & maybe 5 tables for 2. There are 3 upholstered chairs that are in the tv area. No couch anymore. The lounge also closes between service times. At breakfast & evening appetizers, it gets crowded & we took our plates back to our room at times. You can take snacks & beverages to the pool, but as you said, you wouldn't just pop back in for a drink in the middle of pool time.

We have stayed at other club levels: Beach Club (before their rehab), Contemporary Tower club (very small lounge), BWI Garden Suite & Grand Floridian Royal Palm Club. BWI gets rave reviews for their CMs. But we didn't care for them very much. Too loud & rowdy for us. We get a quick smile & greeting when coming & going at YC & that is fine for us. We don't need lots of individualized attention. I love the RPC, but prefer the YC as a whole over GF. Plus I would never pay those rates for a whole week, lol!

Don't know if that's helpful or not, let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Oh I meant for my vote to go to BWI! I just like the BC better, but I think BWI is the better choice for this type of trip :thumbsup2

You know what, you're right, I read your comment on the fly yesterday and it didn't all sink in. So pretty much all votes for BWI! Lol!

It will be interesting to hear what she thinks of it in comparison to Poly! I suspect she will think the BWI food is better, and she will probably fall in love with the Epcot resort area! Though I can see a family BC stay in your future...

Can you add me to the Poly list January 2-7 2017. This is our second CL stay but first time CL at Poly. We have stayed poly many times in a standard room. We just did BC CL in May. Is there a big difference. Any tips for Poly?

I can't give any tips as we haven't tried CL at the Poly, but wanted to say I hope you have a great time :wizard:.

Congrats on booking BWI. I think they'll have a great time! :goodvibes

Thanks! That was super helpful. I agreed $200 a night more PER ROOM adds up. My husband likes espresso and he hates the quick service coffee at Marketplace so I thought maybe that would be great for him BUT he too doesn't drink and I don't drink wine or beer, so it may not work out financially for us. My kids will only stay at YC (we did do BC last trip though) so my chances of GF with them are nill. Oh well, I'll have to try a club level without them someday.

Does anyone know when the WL CL lounge will be completed? Will it be before the new year? Also if not - where is the lounge relocated to? Thanks for your help!

We stayed for three nights at AKL at the end of our trip this summer. We refer to these as Decompress Days, and we mainly spend our time in the pool and visiting the parks only at night.

I'll offer these thoughts for anyone who's considering staying CL at a Animal Kingdom Lodge. These are my thoughts, and you are free to disagree. But they reflect our experiences and impressions.

In an age when every detail of your trip is planned in advance, and any change you want to make during your trip can be accomplished with the phone in your hand, the club level CMs really serve you no purpose. Indeed, it was hard to understand why at any given moment there were at least two, and sometimes three, CMs sitting at the desk. Almost always, they weren't doing anything. And to the extent they welcomed you to the lounge, is was roughly the way I would welcome an LSU fan into my office. With an annoyed sneer. I'm only exaggerating slightly.

We did online check in (as we did at the CR earlier in our trip) and we got the room ready text as I was parking the rental car. That was pretty convenient! We headed straight to our room on Uzima Trail. More on that below.

After we checked out the room and the view, we headed up to the lounge. Only our MBs didn't work in the elevator. So we had to go to the front desk. And wait in line. Not a huge inconvenience, but not particularly club level friendly. Not only have they done away with any sort of curbside welcome, the on line check in didn't avoid standing in line.

The room location was not ideal. We were nearly at the end of the second pod, close to elevator. And of course, that elevator doesn't reach the 6th floor. The view from our room was fantastic. We thought it slightly better than when we were on the Zebra trail a few years ago. The room was super clean and we had a lot of animal activity right off our balcony. But if we were there for a week, it would have been a heck of a schlep to the lounge and the buses every day.

So here's where the Disboards truly pay off! After the first afternoon of schlepping to the lobby then around to the other side to the elevators up to 6, I decided to scan through this thread to see if there was any club level skinny I was missing. Sure enough TgrlvsPooh had posted about the stairs that go from 4 to 6. The staircase was on our side of the lobby and more convenient.

Which brings me back to the CMs, you'd think they would look at your room location and tell you that. But again, they didn't do much of anything. The day we arrived, a CM recognized we were new and came and talked to us while we were fixing glasses of Jungle Juice. It was quite literally the most awkward conversation since I asked out a girl in 6th grade. I was glad when she left us with our packet and moved on.

How about the food? It was pretty dadgummed good! We got there around afternoon snack time and we were there for appetizers, desserts and breakfast every day. The food was good and replenished frequently. The food CMs were fantastic! Supper attentive and very friendly. One of them was an Auburn fan and enjoyed messing around with me every day. But we have 16 national championships and they only have 2, so I won every one of those conversations. Also, I'm a guest, he had to relent. But there were also two Bama fan CMs who Roll Tided me every time they saw me. We were offered beer and wine multiple times a day. We don't consume, but I appreciated that they weren't hiding their most expensive offering from people. I'm almost positive the wine was out for you to pour as much as you wanted.

One evening, while enjoying some succulent desserts, we decided we needed something salty to go with it. I asked a CM if they had any chips. She was back in a minute with two bowls of popcorn, two bowls of goldfish and two bowls of house made chips. That's good service.

While breakfast was the same every morning, the appetizers varied, and they had someone serving up hot dishes.

My pre-breakfast breakfast:

One of the appetizers. It was African Stew with broccoli mashed potatoes. It was way better than the name implies.

I believe the desserts were varied as well.

Everything we ate was really good, and again, they never ran out of food. Some mornings, it could get crowded by the food bar, but it was never mobbed. I've stayed at some other resorts where people queue up about 15 minutes before the food is put out and then pounce on it like it's a $299 flat screen on Black Friday. Come to think of it, I didn't see any food hoarding either. Maybe we were there with some decent guests?

If you're staying club level for food, it was enjoyable. And the food is the only benefit. So be aware of that when you're pricing it out over a savanah view.

Now about the lounge: it's plenty big and we never had trouble finding a place to sit. But there were squatters. It appeared to us there were some people who had late flights and no where else to go. They camped on the couch and watched movies. They were there all day. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, they paid as much as I did to be there. Just seemed like an odd way to spend the day. And the napping was awkward.

Then there was the pre-teen who put her hand into the bowl of jelly beans. And manhandled several cookies. I pointed it out to a CM who promptly removed both the jelly beans and the cookies (did they come back out as is? Who knows. But we avoided them for the rest of the day just to be safe). I have no problem with people coming to the lounge in sleepy pants or swim cover ups (we live in a Walmart world after all), but can't we all agree to keep our kids' hands out of the jellybeans?

We enjoy the atmosphere at AKL very much and it can be nice in the lounge. But here was an unwelcome change. They put up a HUGE tv right in the center of the lounge. It plays Disney movies all day. It's so loud, you cannot hear any of the AKL music wafting up from the lobby. There is no quiet. The entire atmosphere is dominated by the TV. In that way, it feels like you've wandered into someone's family room, or you're at the Disney Store (if it also served muffins). No, it's not a deal breaker, but if you're heading to the lounge expecting to soak up some quiet, you're not going to find it there.

There was one exception, and that was at breakfast. There's an area over by the TgrLvsPooh stairs. You can't hear the TV there and you can hear some African music. Plus, families with kids tend to park over by the MASSIVE tv. But don't tell anyone else about this location, so that it remains quiet for you (or us) next time.

Other than the food service CMs, there was no kind of CM interaction that improved our trip in anyway. As far as we could tell, our room was exactly like any other room (although we had a DVD player, maybe some robes, but I won't swear to it). There was no welcome gift. No real welcome at all. Just an awkward encounter by the ice bucket. And although I could have had several bottles of beer, no water bottles were available.

We've stayed CL at AKL in the past and there was a noticeable diminution in service from the desk CMs and in general. For us, the CL experience at WDW and anywhere else we travel is almost always about the convenience of the lounge. Some occasional kiss-butt service is appreciated too. You'll not find that at AKL, although you'll enjoy the food. But it's not particularly convenient to your room, so keep that in mind.

We still enjoy the AKL but I think next time we'll rent a one bedroom at Kidani and stock the fridge with our own food. Then we won't have to schlep two football fields to share jelly beans with the hands of pre-teen.

ZZUB- Thanks for the review. We stay once or twice a year Club Level at AKL and have for about the last 6 or 7 years. There are many things I agree with in your post. We have never had the CMs be overly friendly. I have actually found the regular lobby CMs to be more helpful and friendlier. I have had the lobby CMs give my child tons of stickers, coloring books, etc. Never once have I had a club level CM even really recognize my child. However, there was one time when my daughter lost her stuffed pooh bear and the club level desk CM heard us talking about it and went and got her a new one. We haven't received a welcome gift in our last three or four trips. I'm glad you found the secret stairs as they make that side of the resort acceptable. Without those stairs, I think I would refuse a room on that side. We never mind the walk and have been pretty far down the hall. We have never had any problems finding a seat in the lounge and find the food and drinks to be good. I have said it many times, my only food complaint is that they have removed the kid options. We just love AKL and the price difference from a Savannah view to Club Level isn't that much. If the price difference was very much I think we would also pass on Club Level.

Thanks for this review. I am just learning about CLs and thinking about one at the Poly for our 2018 trip. Hoping for friendlier CMs but I guess it depends on the day. I, too, wondered about the service they provide - when it seems so many things can be taken care of on your own. But there might be guests who want some extra help in that area.

Thank you for the review of the AKL CL. Very sad to hear about the impersonal CM in the lounge. The one time we stayed at the AKL CL was years ago but the CM were top notch and always available to help. I asked about a good spot to see the shuttle launch one day and not only did they assure us that we would have a good view from our room they kept us updated all week as the launch was postponed once. He also printed out a bunch of interesting launch info for us and on our last night we saw a great shuttle launch. I think in some way we can blame the internet and cell phones for some of the CM problems. The younger generation just does not know how to interact with people face to face anymore!

Thanks for your detailed review. We haven't stayed CL yet, but we love AKL and are hoping to try CL soon :).

@ZZUB Your post had me ROFL in a few spots. Thanks for taking the time to do a detailed write-up, especially on AKL which doesn't tend to get a lot of discussion on here. Go Dawgs.

Sorry I've been MIA! :) I just got the guest list updated with everyone who messaged me. If I missed you just send me a DM and I'll get you on the list. :D

We loved the AKL CL stay in August. We were also at the 2nd pod elevators, but loved that location. I would stop at the window between to view the ugly birds, and found it was a great area for laundry and ease to various cool stairways etc., My kids loved the secret staircase. Sam always welcomed me and the kids, even if he was a yankee fan, lol. Loved the sangria, other offetings, doorbell service, the quieter tables on the hall side.
My son rather sneak in the side stairs though than have to say hi to the desk people, lol.
My favorite resort so far. Well, except for POR, which is different, but still beloved, and our next trip.
