Resort Thread Disney's Club Level (CL) Thread

Got you added! :)

Sorry I've been MIA, we just got back from WDW and I'm sick! :(

Sorry you're sick! I can't ever go to this place and come back healthy ... If it's not the full-fledged flu it's strep throat or pink eye for the girls or God knows what all else we caught there... EVERY SINGLE TIME! ( Handwashing or not it doesn't seem to make a difference)...

Hope you feel better soon !!!

It's more than likely you got the "crud" from the air travel...I always munch on "Airborne" when traveling...Or the Zinc stuff...I think it helps!

Nope... We drive... It's only a little over 4 hours away... Same climate etc... It's definitely "Disney Crud"...
We never get sick going to the beach or the mountains etc... Just Disney...

We've never been over Christmas, and honestly I never thought we would. But everything lined up this year, and my DH suggested it. So i did what I had to do and said Yes:rotfl: We've never stayed at the CR and my DS has wanted to, and it will be over (almost)his birthday (we arrive the day after), so we thought this would be a good time to try it. We can walk to the MK, which I'm hoping helps a lot at least with the crowds getting to the MK. We'll see, maybe I'll never want to go back that time again! But I'll have done it once!
You'll be fine:) I think your booking the CR was a perfect strategy! I have a friend who took her family during that same time a couple of years ago, and they had a blast...it just takes some major planning. From what I've heard, you just have to get to the parks early because they often reach capacity and won't let anyone else in! My friend booked a pre-park opening breakfast at MK on Christmas Day and said it worked perfectly. I will be very interested to hear your thoughts on the trip after you get back because pulling my kids out of school isn't an option anymore since they are in middle school and high school.

We didn't have any trouble enjoying MK on Christmas Day last year. I heard traffic was really terrible out on the roads, but we took the boat from the WL and walked right in with no issues. I think we got there around late morning. Did our 3 fastpasses, saw the parade, it really didn't feel any different than the rest of the week. I thought NYE was much worse.

Erika- Can you please add me for the Boardwalk October 29th - November 2nd (2015)? We travel to WDW every year or so but this is the first time we are staying club level! DH and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary (got married at the WL) and figured we would splurge on a BWI garden/cottage suite. We have never stayed at the BWI before but seems like a great location for all of the food & wine events we have planned :) Thanks and hope you feel better soon!

I'm debating what to book for Christmas this year. I'm leaning towards Sugarloaf right now. I really like being close to MK and the GF has such beautiful decorations. AP rates are out and they are OK, not as good as I hoped. Six nights (12/18-12/24) with my AP is $4165. Not sure what I want to do about 12/24 and 12/25 yet since there aren't any discounts for those dates. Might have to go down to a moderate, or go home. There's no way I'm paying $1000 per night. Unless I hit the lottery by then! :rotfl:

Sure! No problem :D

You may already know this, but hand sanitizer is not effective on most viruses...only bacteria. If you are not already using them, get hand sanitizing wipes with benzalkonium chloride in them. I hope I don't get attacked by other DISers for recommending this because it is really harsh on your skin if used repeatedly, but we always use these at Disney (after getting off rides, etc). The only time we have had an illness at Disney is when I had stopped using the wipes as much because we had never had any illnesses at Disney! I always take 4 containers of these hand wipes as well as a container of Clorox wipes to wipe down handles, switches, and remotes when we check into our room. This includes handles on the toilet and sink faucets since housekeeping at hotels uses the same sponges, etc to clean from one room to the next potentially spreading germs from one room to the next-yuck! Yes, this seems excessive, but it works for me! Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip! :) I used Airborne the last two trips and stayed healthy but forgot to buy some this time. Maybe it serves me right! ;)

Sigh, food hoarding in CL again....

I chuckle every time this comes up, because while food hoarding is often mentioned, scrutiny of alcohol consumption is rarely mentioned.

Second, unless you monitor everyone every day of their stay, you really don't know each person's total consumption. Maybe the desserts you think they are hoarding are the first CL food they've had all day.
***
You also don't know if other person has a food allergy, or multiple allergies. I sometimes go with family members with allergies. In short, the chefs do all kinds of generous things to counter the challenge of surviving a week of WDW with food restrictions.

Just for a moment, consider WDW from the point of view of a child with multiple severe food allergies.

At the risk of sounding hokey....I don't know about Airborne, but we've had great luck adding probiotic foods to our diet.Truly, we stumbled upon probiotics by accident, (before probiotics became a buzz word) and stopped getting sick.

Yogurt is the best known, but avoid brands with thickeners. A variety of brands is best. We love adding orange juice and/or fruit. Greek cucumber dipping sauce is also yogurt.
More great foods include: sauerkraut, buttermilk, miso soup, any pickled foods: pickles, kimchi, kombucha, etc. Aged cheese is also good, like real Parmesan.

The other great news is that you can find at least some of the above at WDW! Miso soup is at the QS in Japan. Also, the seaweed they use to wrap sushi is off the charts in calcium! Casey's (MK) and Epcot's Sommerfest QS sell saurkraut. Sanaa has pickled dips and paneer cheese.

WDW serves yogurt, but much of it is the cheapo kind. I think the only CL which offers plain yogurt is GF. Go figure? One other Orlando theme park option worth mentioning is Citywalk's Menchie's. (self serve frozen plus toppings)

I eat yogurt every morning and I love pickles! :) Guess I didn't know I was adding probiotic foods!

I admit I drink less wine now that I have to ask someone to pour it for me. Over our 10 day trip I probably had a total of 3 glasses at the BC CL, and zero at Sugar Loaf. (Long line at their cart every time I happened to walk by) It's not that I'm embarrassed to ask, it just seems like a hassle.

I can't promise that, but it is funny how this topic pops up now and again.:p

Over many stays, I can only think of a very few times I've seen anything like food hoarding or abuse.

One stay, one family had several young boys. We first saw them at the pool. The boys were basically out of control, generally annoying numerous guests, crass, crude. Mom was with them and did nothing to intervene. It struck me that maybe she thought her vacation = a vacation from making any effort to control her children. Later, they showed up at the CL lounge: the boys thought it funny to kind of play with half the stuff on the buffet, manhandling food with their hands. Ugh! Mom saw no need to intervene.

I reported earlier this year about our Jan stay at AKL. (Prior CL thread) We witnessed rather rampant bad behavior. I partly blame the football playoffs. It was during the games that we witnessed much of the worst of it.:headache:

It was unlike any other CL stay we've had, even our prior AKL visit.

Most our stays have been delightful.:tinker:

That's too bad.

I'm not much for beer or wine, but it certainly decreases the value of CL if guests have to stand in line to get anything.

A big part of the value of CL for us has always been less time waiting in line.

I never travel without multiple packs of clorox wipes! They're also quite handy for air travel. The first thing I do is whip one out and wipe down every surface of my seat, seatbelt, and tray table. And the wall and window if I have a window seat. And the seat pocket.

I may have a germ problem.

Yes!

I'm lucky one of the vendors at our local farmer's market carries a wide assortment of pickled veggies. I hear it isn't hard to make at home, but I'm a little chicken. This place makes 5 sauerkrauts, and all kinds of veggie combos. They are so unique, they have a cult following all over the region, and sell out every week at multiple locations!

This is the kind of area I think WDW misses the mark. Instead of nasty foods like fried candy bars and the super-nasty Croissant Doughnut, Disney could be introducing guests to healthier foods. The American Pavilion offerings are among the saddest. America is so much more creative than what they offer.

At least the CL's offer healthy morning options and a few creative salads.
