Disney's Christmas Carol Warning

I love Jim Carrey and can't wait to see this movie-- thanks for the heads up, maybe this can be just a "big kids" movie night out!!

Very interesting to hear what everyone thought of it. I know when I saw the trailer, I think you know right away its not intended for younger audiences but having said that, I think if the kids are familiar enough with the story, they will enjoy it as apposed to being scared.

The special effects in 3D were phenomenal by the way, definitely see why it scares the youngins

We took DD(4) to the train tour in Boston, she was totally freaked out and doesn't want to see it! The ghosts were scary and the scenes over the city were very dark.

I will be taking the DW to see it this weekend. my DD 7 gets scared watching the Muppet Christmas Carol, so she won't be going with us, and DD 3 is too young for this movie.
I think it is really up to parents to decide if their children can handle a movie like this. I know my daughter can't so I won't bother taking her. I remember going to see the final Lord of the Rings movie, and saw people with kids who were 4 and 5 years old. I thought they were nuts to take kids to that kind of movie,

My husband, DD (5.5) and I went to see the 3D version last night. DH and I thought it was amazing. DD told her Auntie that it "freaked her out a bit" but it was also "hilarious". LOL

She's doesn't get scared easily (she's seen all of the Harry Potter movies and loves them), but all of the things that jump out at you startled her a bit.

But we told her that it was just like the HM at MK.... and that seemed to work.... HM is one of her favorites!

I think this thread deserves to be bumped up again for people planning to take their kids this weekend. I took DD8 on Friday and was almost immediately sorry. I thought the movie was beautifully done and Jim Carrey was great, but it really isn't designed for young kids. DD isn't easily scared, and was fine, but I always check out movies before I take her, and I failed to do so this time. I guess I thought it would be a little more cheerful, but it's very dark and creepy, and I found myself hoping it would be over soon.

I'm just the opposite. I can't imagine taking a child to any Jim Carrey movie. Too bad Disney wasted a good movie with him as almost the sole actor.

Not sure what to do now. My DD, 6, was invited to go see this movie tomorrow as a birthday party for another 6 yr old. There are 6 girls going with the birthday girl's mom and aunt. We (the other parents) are to drop our kids off with the two adults, who are going to take them to the movie and for pizza and ice cream afterwards. She would be very upset to not be able to go, but now I'm nervous about her being scared at the movie.

WOW! I'm going to have to ask my boys for a more in depth review. My MIL took my boys (12 and 8) to see it this past Saturday. From what I understood they LOVED it. They saw the 3D version.

Hmmm... now I'm wondering if they were frightened and didn't want to say anything to get Grandma in trouble! LOL

DD6 saw the train tour too. up until then, she had no desire to see it. After seeing the 10 min preview, she loved it. I am going to let her decide, but will warn her it has scary parts. I also hate to pay $9 a person to see a movie because it is in imax 3d.

I will report in The movie went fine. My dd (6) said it was scary, but she also said that it was good. All the kids that saw the movie loved it. The parents that accompanied them said that, to them, the movie was boring. They did not see the 3D version.

We went to see this today. My kids (10 and 7) did not find it scary, but had a little trouble following it, though they knew the story. I kept having to whisper in their ears to they understood, especially DD7.
I myself was a little disapointed. I can't put my finger on what I felt was lacking. I didn't not like it, I thought it was OK, but I just didn't love it like I thought I would. The 3D was wonderful though.
Like everything, people's opinions vary. I posted on Facebook that I thought it was just OK and within about a second I had a "We LOVED it" from a friend. Aslo, though mine were not, I can see where younger kids may be scared.

The movie is rated PG (not G). That suggests the movie may not be appropriate for some kids.

Parents with sensitive kids need to look at the ratings before going to the movies.

I asked my DS12 and DS8 again about the movie, they both said they loved it and they were not scared. I double-checked that they were not just trying to protect Grandma, and they said no, they really loved it.

So that's their 2 cents worth!

Just the commercials showed me that it's NOT a kid's movie.

Actually, just the still picture of Scrooge showed me that it's not. Frightening man!

exactly... seeing the previews, I told my DW, who wanted to see it, that I had no interest in seeing it nor allowing our DD5 to see it. I stated it looked to dark for a disney movie on Christmas. Our DD isn't afraid of much, and has ridden ToT too, but IMHO, its not appropriate for the younger ages.

If kids didn't do well with Harry Potter they wont do well in Xmas Carol! I wont be taking ds4!! Way too intense!

We saw it yesterday with our boys. They all were fine. Even my 3 year old. But my 3 year old also will put on a hockey mask and chase his brothers around so it's harder to scare him

I can totally see where it would frighten some kids. I kept looking over at him waiting for a response but the most he did was put his arm over his eyes. That was because of Marley. He pointed out that the ghost of Christmas of yet to come was a monster and was "sooky" (spooky) but wasn't scared, just making sure I everybody was aware of it lol

Overall it was a good movie. The animation is amazing!!!! Would be very cool to see it in 3D!

Will I see again again? Definetly. Will I suggest it to others? Absolutely. Will I give a warning? Yes, if your kids scare easily.

Thanks for the heads up you guys. I think we will be sitting this one out and pull out the good ole Mickey's Christmas Carol for some Disney holiday magic at least until The Princess & The Frog debuts

Well, my DD is having her b-day party at this movie today - everyone will be 8 and up, so hopefully it goes well!
