Had to take a water view which slightly blew the budget. We will be celebrating my 50th birthday ( ouch that hurt to type that )..half a century! ugh kill me now so anyways..hubby has added on a week before Disney in the Florida Keys as I really love snorkeling and want to swim with the manatees. Hes a romantic old soul, he asked me to marry him in Key West at sunset 20 yrs ago and I have been wanting to go back ever since. So look out ..from the Keys to the Big Cheese here we come. ( Ooo that was a good trip report title wasnt it):sunny:

Whoohoo! Sounds like an awesome Birthday Trip!

That sucks he got lost, but when going to MK taxis and Uber drivers HAVE to take you to the TTC. They are not allowed to drop you off at the MK gates. Next time get dropped off at Contemporary and walk over to MK.
That was our plan. She asked me where the dining ressie was and I told her the MK...she said that she can't go there. I tried to explain that the Contemporary was not MK...something was lost in translation.

Woohoo! We are going June 5-10, and I couldn't get CBR with the discount either. We are at CSR this time around. I hope you have a great birthday trip!

We might do a split stay with CBR being our first resort. We would like to take a van taxi to transfer to YC so that we have our luggage right away at YC. Do we just call guest services and tell them or call the taxi company directly? When we did a split stay before, we stayed at ASM. Our room was close enough to walk with our luggage to the main entrance and a cast member at guest services called for a van taxi. Obviously we can't walk with our luggage to the Custom House.

You can call Bell Services from your room or set it up with the Concierge at OPR or the Custom House.

Another question about a split stay... do we order just one set of Magic Bands, or one set for each resort?

We have our first stay at CBR booked for September and we are excited! After reading this thread, I have one big question: Does anyone actually CHOOSE to book a pirate room? I mean, they are much more expensive than standard. They are the farthest rooms from the food court and main pool. And worst of all, they have double beds. That is one "upgrade" I would strongly resist. DH will not sleep with me in a double, and I can't sleep with both girls in a double.

And a follow up: Why doesn't Disney just go ahead and put Queens in the rooms? Aren't the pirate rooms the only remaining rooms in the moderates with doubles? To me, that makes them the worst rooms at the moderates.

I guess if they offered Pirate rooms when my kids were little, we might have considered it. I hope we don't get stuck with one. We would definitely request a room change.

Yes. We have 3 families that we are friends with that love the Pirate Themed Rooms and only will stay there. My BIL, SIL and their family just had their first stay in them last month and booked a bounceback offer for the Pirate Rooms for July. Apparently, our nephews (and my BIL) went crazy for them. They thought they were the coolest thing ever.

I heard that they would have had to completely redesign the bed frames and decided against it.

Yup. They are not for everyone and definitely for a niche crowd.

I guess I can see little boys loving them. I did notice the bed frames are entirely one piece and would have to be redesigned to fit a queen mattress.

Well, I am glad that your friends and family like them. I am glad someone likes them. :-)

Since I have two little girls and a husband who is used to a king bed, they are just not for us. On the off chance we were to be upgraded, we would pull the ol' "We'd love to accept your kind offer, but we will selflessly gift the offer to a family with little pirate boys."

Saw the plug-in area in pirate room photos with USB plug-ins. Anyone know if regular rooms have these as well? We will be in standard view room (hopefully Jamaica) if that matters.
I also saw in another thread that Disney was replacing alarm clocks in many rooms with USB-enabled power strips. Any of these in CBR yet? Not having to buy extra power blocks or switch them back and forth, etc. would be nice and handy!
Yes, tons of them, soooo convenient! Also we had the new USB ports AND an alarm clock.

I just read where they extended the Spring discount through June 12. Perhaps you can get the discount added to your reservation!! Good luck.

We are doing a split stay on our upcoming vacation (ending at CBR) - we have a standard room and I'd like to put in a request for close to busses and maybe even food court - is there a particular area I should ask for? Also, as we have never stayed at CBR, is it better to stay on ground level or higher up? We will have a stroller etc so I just want to make it easy as possible on us. Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, Jamaica is the closest area without paying for a premium location. It is straight across the bridge from OPR. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. It has been many years since we've stayed there. We usually would walk across the bridge from Jamaica and catch the bus at OPR which I believe is the main bus stop.

Had the pirate rooms been available when my son was younger, I'd have booked one for sure. With the theme of the rooms, I am sure that a lot of pirate loving folks would book them; as a matter of fact, one of my friends just booked two of them even with me telling them the distance from the food court/main pool/store, etc.

As others have said, the pirate beds were designed for a full/double mattress and, in order to make them queens, the beds would have had to be redesigned.

There are buildings in Martinique that are not prefered, Building 23, 22 and 21, and they are on the same side of the lake as Old Port Royale. Some of the buildings in Jamaica and Aruba are closed to the footbridge across the lake. Having said all of that, we have stayed in Barbados Building 11 before which is one of the furthest buildings from Old Port Royale and our walk was just about 7 minutes. This past trip, we were in the furthest building in Jamaica and the walk was a little less.

I may have missed it but has anyone posted pictures of the bridge since it was redone? If so, can you post them please?

I know you can see the Epcot fireworks from CBR, but how is the view of the Hollywood Studios fireworks? Do you recommend a certain location for watching DHS fireworks?
