Resort Thread Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH Resort

My BiL just told me yesterday that he read CBR had a snake "infestation"and he wasn't sure about staying there now. I told him there's snakes all over Disney property and if it were to the point of an "infestation" I would have read about it here, and I haven't seen anything about snakes to that degree. Anyone know how this rumor started?? Or is he right and I've just missed something? Lol

There was some talk about it, but we were there 10 days in November and never saw one. But I will say it was on my mind while walking around. I think it started with a story of a kid that got bitten by a snake there. But I've seen reports here and there at CSR to. We've stayed at all the moderates and never once saw a snake. I would not worry at all about it, but just keep it in mind as you are walking to always stay on the pavement, no shortcuts.

In all of our stays at the resort, we have seen two snakes. Both were small and slithered away quickly when they saw us coming. I am usually terrified of snakes but these didn't bother me at all.

I think it would be so cool to see snakes! We love animals. The kids would love it. No worries.

Thanks.

No baseball. But there is a kids' soccer thing going on part of the time I'm there. Oh well.

The majority of the sports teams are booked at All Star Sports but when there is a really big competition like baseball or cheer, they spill over to other resorts.

It's Florida...there are snakes and other creepy crawlers on property. With that said, we have seen 2 snakes in all of our stays, including one very small one last visit in September 2015.

Obviously. I just didn't know if there was a specific incident that sparked it.

My point being that these things don't have to have any basis in reality and yet they go viral. You can confidently inform your BIL that CBR does not have a snake infestation. He will have as much of a chance of seeing one at CBR as anywhere else on WDW property. :thumbsup2

As @wdw4rfam stated a boy was bitten by a snake at CBR. It was 10 years ago and he went into a bush looking for a ball that bounced in there.

question about the murphy beds: Would I be able to put a pool noodle under the sheet at the edge to make a "bed rail?" My youngest (she's 4) is used to sleeping in a queen bed and she seriously makes use of the entire bed, so I am nervous about her falling off. I could have one of her big brothers sleep there (and honestly I imagine they will want to), but I know sleeping wise, the boys will sleep better together than one with her. So would that work or is the bed too narrow? What do you think? Any other ideas?

A pool noodle would work just fine. But the resort has bed rails that would work even better.

we just slid the 2 chairs from the table backwards and it made a great bed rail.

Yep. As a general rule, stick to the paths. I personally go more towards the center just in case any grumpy thing is sitting right at the edge, but I also keep my eyes open. The one time I will stop and let someone pass going the opposite way even if just only one other person is if I'm right at some bushes where I might accidentally step into them. I'd rather wait a couple of minutes than find a resident of the bushes.

Has anyone ever seen an alligator in the lake? I'm asking this on behalf of my DD. When we stayed at CSR last October we saw one. We had a table outside near the water and my DD started tossing her food to the turtles. All of a sudden an alligator popped up and started eating the food LOL!!!

Snakes don't bother me. We have a canal behind our house and sometimes they end up in our pool. Last week we had a huge turtle that decided to make a temporary home of our pool.

We have yet to see one in the lake at CBR. Lots and lots of turtles, but no gators yet.

I added a picture. It's not the best since it was getting dark and I was using my phone.

Saw no snakes at CBR in January. We did see a small alligator at CSR a few years ago. We thought it was cool.
