Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

People in the Cake Bake Shop thread have said that the book Birnbaum's Walt Disney World: The Official Vacation Guide has a coupon in the back for Cake Bake Shop. Supposedly you can use it in the bakery section as well as the restaurant. I can't remember what the discount is on the coupon, but you can ask in that thread. Th
Thanks! Someone on that thread had photographed the Birnbaum's book coupon pages. Cake Bake Shop coupon is 20%, so you'd need to spend $55 to break even on the book purchase. Not difficult. 2 pieces of cake and a magic bar. Coupon would definitely come in handy if dining at the restaurant.

Does the outside section ever have seating or is it usually filled? Looking forward to relaxing with some wine out there during our stay in Oct/Nov!
We've been there in Sept and Oct and never had a problem getting an outside seat. While it is nice to sit outside, weather permitting, you really can't see much over the railings unless you stand. We prefer the atmosphere and ambiance inside the Belle Vue.

Yep, I used mine when we were there. I believe it was only allowed at the restaurant, not the bakery side. Our waiter was confused and said he didn’t even know they had coupons! Glad I had the coupon as I felt it was one of our worst meals, so at least felt better about not paying full price.

Anyone know what the performer schedule is? I feel like whenever we go to the boardwalk at night it is a night the performers aren’t there and it’s such a let down

Good to know! I was iffy about dining there, but now I won't bother. I'm a big baker and curious to see if the cake is *that good*. I'll just grab a slice from the bakery to share with my daughter.

Our breakfast was really good. I’ve eaten lunch at the one in Carmel and wasn’t impressed, so I was surprised the breakfast was so tasty. We were not impressed with the cakes, which tracks with my Indiana experience. The buttercream frosting had a weird overly creamy texture to it - way beyond the creaminess of an Italian meringue buttercream. It was very off putting to us. The flavors were also very subtle, which was highly disappointing. We had the gluten-free mint and the raspberry champagne one. The positive was that both cakes were super-moist, which isn’t always easy to do with chocolate cake.

That is a common complaint from many guests at CBS. They use European Buttercream, Italian or Swiss meringue buttercream is generally less sweet (no powered sugar) than American buttercream and, silky smooth.

Our American buttercream has an intense sweetness and dense texture due to its heavy use of powdered sugar.

I loved the raspberry champagne cake and the icing.

We didn’t think the cake was that good, we had the raspberry champagne…. Our food was also very meh (went for lunch). Maybe we just had an off day?

We had a bad lunch experience at Cake Bake too. It's a shame since we walk by it constantly when staying at Boardwalk. It would be so convenient for us but I doubt we'll go back.
We also had a very disappointing lunch at Cake Bake. It was expensive, and the best thing both of us had was the lemonade. Thankfully there are lots of other places to dine at WDW.

Breakfast was excellent there when we went and I have yet to hear anything bad about it. Lunch/Dinner seems to get the mixed reviews.

I’m very picky and turn my nose up at a lot. It’s extremely rare for me to read a glowing review, try the item, and actually like it. It’s way more likely for me to wonder if these people have ever eaten good food. My kid keeps trying to convince me that I should start a blog called Picky B**** and snarkily complain about my food! I think that was covered by EasyWDW, so I’ll stay in my lane.

Every day I miss Josh and his writing. I think of him every single time I pass the Italy booth at a festival.

Re: the cake, I enjoyed the Millionaire slice we had to go even though by the time we ate it at Typhoon Lagoon it was basically melted lol. And I don’t tend to get cake out in the street very often—my cousin is a fantastic baker so I’m very spoiled and have high standards. I tend to find most bakeries even at home to be grossly overrated and hyped up by socials (Magnolia is propped up entirely by dumb tourists and so is that place that invented the cronut). But I enjoyed the cake at CBS. It may be a question of what you get. Personally I liked that it wasn’t sickly sweet.

I've sat outside at Belle Vue many a time and it's lovely. If they're able to, bartenders will come out to check on you, but more often than not one of us goes back to the bar for a second round. I also recently heard of what is apparently a tradition of writing messages on cocktail napkins (fun things like commemorating your trip and who you were with; wishing future travelers a magical trip etc.) and sticking them randomly inside one of the books on the shelves for people to come across. We're looking forward to hunting for some messages on our next trip.

Oh my gosh, thanks! We will totally do this!
