Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

The BW Bakery has a soup of the day. You could get it in a cup or a bread bowl, didn't try the bread bowl. And you could get it as a side with a sandwich for half price or so (it seemed about $2 more instead of the full $4.50 for the soup. Seemed to be a better deal than the included chips.) one day it was Minestrone, which my wife really liked, and two days it was clam chowder. Don't know what the rest of the rotation is!

We're also staying at the Poly on our March trip! We really wanted to try the bungalows, so we said what the heck... And then woke up and booked a studio! :thumbsup2 We did book a lake view, so at least we'll be able to see the bungalows! Close enough, right? But then we have our big Disney cruise to Alaska in May/June. And if you say you're on that, too, then I might have to call the cops for stalking! :scared1: :rotfl2:

Lol. And aren't you a New Yorker too? We could have pooled or points and shared a bungalow! Btw, just read in All Ears that they have tours of the bungalows during certain times of the afternoon for DVC members.

Nope, no cruise to Alaska, just a family cruise on the Dream.

We were at BWI from Dec. 12-18. We had a great room with a view of the boardwalk. We love the feel & look of the Boardwalk. However, maid service wasn't great, not to say the ladies we encountered were not nice, they were very nice. But most days the soap, etc wasn't replaced, not sure if this is a new thing or not, also no clock in room, another day we didn't receive any wash towels, and the sheets were very obviously stained & never changed the entire trip. We also noticed, outside doors, room service trays staying in hall for over a day & there was a flood on the 3rd floor that dripped to the 2nd, two different days. The first time we walked through it, not seeing it, the second day it was easily seen, so we had to take the stairs. I felt bad for anyone staying in the rooms next to it. To the Boardwalk's credit, they did clean it up as quickly as they could. The busses were great, we had no trouble at all. And the shop, that has all those paintings, has the most beautiful painting on metal of the Boardwalk, if anyone has $3500 to spend go see it, Fantastic!
The bounce back for deluxe was 30% off the room. So we booked our next trip, but my DH wants to stay across the lake at BC. But I'm sure I'll be walking back over to the Boardwalk for a little shopping.

I after I posted it, I did remember having the clam chowder one day. We bought a whole pizza from the window and I also had the clam chowder from the bakery. Certainly, an odd combination which is why I initially forgot it. :lmao:

They are taking the clocks out of the DVC rooms, I did not have one at BWV 2 weeks ago. They may also be taking them out of the non-DVC. Their reasoning is people use their cell phones. I personally disagree.

It is an odd combo, but I had the clam chowder with the meatball sub, so it's about the same! :thumbsup2 We did have a whole pizza from the window on the last night, it was good but not as good as real NY pizza. :) not bad though.

Merry Christmas!

Great view!! Love that angle. Enjoy your trip! :santa:

I thought it was weird, too. I can understand not having the fancy clocks with the phone docks (especially since the last set all became obsolete when the iPhones went to the lightning jacks), but they should have gone back to cheap $10 alarm clocks.

I agree with you. If I wake up during the night I like to know what time it is. Without having to fumble for my cell phone. As psac said above, put in a cheap clock.

Back from vacation and I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas/Hanukah:goodvibes

Some thoughts on the rehabbed 1BR:

The wood floors in the living room are an odd choice. They look nice, and are probably easier to clean, but after a long day of walking, carpets would be really nice. It also adds a bit of echo in the room when talking. I'm glad I brought slippers! My planar fasciitis would not be happy without them.

The fridge seems smaller than the old ones. Still big enough for everything, but it's like a 3/4 size instead of full sized.

The new dressers also seem smaller. Still enough space for two, but for four drawer space might be tough. Speaking of which, no sleeping space for a fifth person. They could have done something I would think?

The new TVs are HUGE (in a very good way!), but they're mounted straight, and not tilted slightly down like they probably should be. Not a big deal.

Everything is so new though, it's refreshing. We did some laundry, and judging from the lint trap, I was the first person to use our dryer! The room we were in last time was really worn, so it's nice.

The bed is nice and new and comfortable as well. The new couches are also nice and cushioned well. A lot of "new" all around! The backsplash tiles in the kitchen and the new art in both rooms are also nice touches.

Overall a positive for sure.

Nicely detailed review, @psac:)

Are all villas at Boardwalk renovated now? Specifically asking about preferred view studios. Thanks!

The current completion estimate is spring 2016.

JUST GOT BACK FROM 4 NIGHTS STAY AT THE INNKEEPER'S LOUNGE. MY THOUGHT THE bwi IS OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE RESORT.nOT MUCH HAS CHNGE SINCE OUR LAST STAY From Sept Stay. Other than no rain execpt not much rain &* warmer :) There was barely any rooms left. We got a nice quite room facing the gardens which was nice & quite. The food inside the lounge was enough.THe day we were leaving someone got stuck on the elavator but wasn't sbother unless it was you (smile) Food was enough other days not the great of selections, oh well. Down size the boats were lousy due to the closing of the '"lights st the DHS the studios. WE had to wait for4 boats going & 4 coming back . all In all we enjoyed our selves .

Thank you for posting about your stay.

Some other miscellaneous notes about our stay:

Like someone else just said, the boats were a wreck in the evenings. The crowds for the Osborne Lights were outrageous, way beyond what we've seen in past years. I'm sure the star wars fireworks aren't helping now either.

Speaking of which, the new Launch Bay in DHS was cool. Took pics with Chewy, a Jawa, and Darth Vader, and using the Disney Visa, we had literally no line for Vader. Chewy growls and Vader talks, both very awesome.

We did the Minnie's Holiday dinner at DHS in H&V, and it was way better than we were expecting. We've never eaten there before, and I think it had a poor reputation a while back, but they must have someone new in charge, because we liked a lot of it. (Like any buffet, some wasn't good, but you could go back for the good stuff.)

Yachtsman's was the best meal, again, with Flying Fish second. Narcoossee's was just so-so this time, but don't cancel because of me, because the last two or three times we loved it. Hopefully just a bad night.

We had a few lunches at the BW bakery, and finally tried the lobster roll. Really good, though it still feels funny spending that much for a CS sandwich that's on the small side. (Though I would have no problem spending more for a smaller appetizer at a signature! Odd isn't it?). I also really liked the meatball sub. That was huge and really filling. And I think the same meatballs as Tratorria, which we also enjoyed for dinner one night. The clam chowder at the BW bakery was also surprisingly good.

With the AP changes, our renewal turned into a Platinum, which meant it included the photo pass downloads. That was awesome, we downloaded a lot. Never considered the memory maker when we had to pay for it. The Tables in Wonderland for $150 is a tough increase. We saved a little over $160, so net $10 savings. BUT, we have a short stay in March and then next years' week in December, so those stays will be pure savings. Looking at it that way, it's still worth it.

Can't wait to go back, already hit by the Post-Disney Blues!!

We had a pretty disappointing level of service at Narcoossee's in August and wished we had dined instead at YS. I'm glad you still felt it was a great choice.

Thanks for running the numbers on your AP advantage. It is a big jump and does cut into savings and now includes a feature you otherwise wouldn't have paid for. But, we all know you go many times a year so I'm sure it's still a great deal overall for you.

:cool1::mickeybarVery excited to be heading back to the Boardwalk Villas!
We're starting our trip at the Polynesian (6/25/16 - 6/28/16) with a Studio and then moving over to the Boardwalk for a 1 bedroom (6/28/16 - 7/2/16)
Now to start planning those ADRs!

Best of both worlds! I'll add your dates to the Bulletin.

Just returned. Neither 1101 nor 2121, 1 bedroom villas on BWV side, are renovated. I didn't care -- like the old décor and will see the new next time! 1101 had a few problems all at once, but the big problem was $200 of Whole Foods food in the fridge that broke while we were still unpacking. Painting still going on as well. Busses all screwed up in the evening (as was driving) because of Osborne Lights love...did more commuting through Epcot than normal, but it all worked well. Had a nice small party (reason for a lot of the food) one early evening in our villa with some DVC friends...and then took advice from folks and walked in to see Osborne lights 30 minutes before close. Jumped into TSM line first and then did Osborne -- they were running full bore long after close. It was magical!

Carolers on the BWI/Villas lawn were great too! We played Pixar Uno on the Belle Vue balcony and enjoyed the carols, lights and atmosphere. :rainbow:

Sounds like a great vacation:)

DD and I arrived on Saturday after a not so magical mechanical problem with our Delta flight. We resolved that by dashing over to GRR for a morning flight. We have a 5th floor room and are pleased with it. Transportation has been fine. Tonight we did Osborne then the awesome fireworks. Walked out and saw the line for the boat was short, so boated to Swolphin rather than our planned walk. (Still had over 32,000 steps today.). We had a fabulous dinner at Yachtsman yesterday and will dine at Flying Fish tomorrow. Enjoyed Jellyrolls last night, but it was slow, so a less fun atmosphere than I've experienced in the past. Even though crowds are big, people seem to have a friendly spirit. Weather is perfect for us. So fun to not be sweating and changing clothes three times a day. I'll post more when we return.

Great to hear about another fabulous meal at YS. I hope your flight home was less dramatic and you get to plan another trip with DD soon.

Hello, I wanted to write how much we loved staying at the BWV. This was our first visit to BWV and we will be coming back for sure! I forgot to write down our room number but we were right off the lobby. We overlooked the pool with the slide. Our balcony was center right above the underpass to the pool. We thought it was a great room! It was renovated and had the pull down bed from the wall. My son loved the sleeping Dumbo on the beds wall. Very cute!! We were there from December 6th to the 12th. We loved how convenient it was to get to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I would love to write a trip report and tell about our wonderful vacation. I will try if I can find the time. When we arrived the pool slide was closed but on Thursday, December 10th the slide was opened and we went to the pool. We had a blast going down that slide. At first my son didn't want to try it but after seeing mom and dad come down and have a great time he then wanted to try. Then we couldn't get him out of the pool. LOL Everyone at BWV was kind and helpful. We even got a new mattress when we were there. I guess they were putting all new mattresses in the rooms and they were very quick and efficient about doing it. Can't wait till our next vacation. Time to book for next year!!

Welcome home and thank you for posting about your stay at BWV. Let us know when you've booked your next stay.

Well we are back from our first ever stay at BWV and the trip was awesome. There were a couple of disappointments but nothing that interfered with it being an awesome trip. When we were on DME we got a text that our room was not ready then when we got there we got another saying we would have to see the front desk to check in. We did that and although we requested a high floor with a boardwalk view we ended up with a ground level quiet pool view over by the convention center and cottages. At first I was really bummed by this but by the end it worked out ok since it was so hot (Dec? go figure) and my daughter wanted to swim so being so close to a pool was nice.

Also somehow when we first got to our room my daughters band would open the door but not mine. This was not surprising as the person who checked us in had lots of trouble with the bands at check-in. So we went back to the desk and got that straightened out.

I agree with those on here who said the Osborn lights thing was crazy busy it was totally a mob scene when we were there.

Candlelight processional was awesome

MVMCP was lots of fun too.

All in all a great week.

So nice to read about a great first stay. It kind of sets the tone for your next stay…which I hope is soon;)

Just back from a quick trip, only stayed 1 night at BWV before transferring to VWL then Poly (hard to get a DVC room last minute!). We were in studio 1107 & it was not refurbed which was fine but the smell of mold & dampness hit us as soon as we opened the door. There was a 6"x3" water stain on the ceiling clearly with black mold on it. We took a picture & headed to the front desk to ask to be moved, but the resort was full. They seemed to be very unconcerned about the mold. Since we were only there one night we didn't put up a fuss, but I would have if we had been there any longer or had allergies! The carpeting in that hallway was also in much needed state of repair, 2 areas were taped up. Otherwise the rest of the resort was as gorgeous as ever, the Boardwalk overall did not disappoint! We had no issues with the Friendship Boats or the buses.

Totally unsatisfactory that they didn't move you to another resort or at least over to BWI. If you're ever dissatisfied with your room again in the future, ask to be moved to another resort. You can even go to the resort you'd like to move to, and explain the problem to a manager and they will take care of transferring you. But, I don't think this will work using points, which is maybe what you were doing? Good thing you were doing the split so this was just a temporary issue.

The BW Bakery has a soup of the day. You could get it in a cup or a bread bowl, didn't try the bread bowl. So true, but who's stalking who? Thank you for posting your great BW photos and updates:)

Random question about the fridges in the studios, well, the "freezers" actually. I've never paid attention before, but was wondering how big the freezer space is, if there is one :confused3 Since we are staying so long we are trying to avoid paying for a breakfast daily, so I'm trying to get creative with in room options without a kitchen. Was thinking of those microwavable Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich things, if I took them out of the box (individually wrapped) could I fit a 4 or 6 pk in the freezer space? Any other ideas for in room breakfast beyond bagels/toast etc TIA :goodvibes

I've never seen the BWV freezer, but you could definitely fit a package of sausages into any of the non-DVC fridges.

Thanks for posting your honest review. I can understand trying something different after your experience. While the grass isn't always greener, a not-so-great stay can leave a lasting impression so moving across the lake might be a nice change. Let us know what you end up booking.

Always wanted to stay at the Boardwalk. Yesterday, I finally booked a Boardwalk Villa room from Wednesday, April 6th, to Saturday, April 9th for the Flower and Garden Festival. Pretty excited.

Welcome and congratulations on booking. I'll log your dates:)

Just checked in and getting settled. This is our first time on site and DVC. Fifth floor pool view. Loving it already.

Off to a great start! Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Yeah, we had Narcoossee's for our March trip, and we switched it for Citrico's. Something different...

Enjoy! That's a nice switch!

Yeah, we had Narcoossee's for our March trip, and we switched it for Citrico's. Something different...

We love Cítricos. Have eaten there a few times, once when my diet was very restricted. The chef was very accommodating.

We are back home. Before, we left, I booked the bounce back to stay at BWI during the week before Christmas in 2016. DD and I had a wonderful time and got to experience many new things (and this was probably our 25th trip!). The Star Wars fireworks at DHS were amazing! We also reveled in the Osborne Lights and truly enjoyed the Comedy Warehouse performances. BWI was terrific as always. The location just can't be beat. We had a wonderful housekeeper who took good care of us. Even when we dashed back to the room in the morning -- our room had been serviced! One day we left at about 7:00 a.m. and then returned at 10:30 -- room was clean and pretty. We were in room 5307 -- not the courtyard view I desired, but it was fine. The bathroom door could not be closed completely (or you risked being stuck in there), but it was fine for me and DD. If it were humid, I could see having this problem, but it was not. It was not worth the time to report (and I forgot about it when we did check with reception on something else). Otherwise, everything was great!

Can anyone tell me if the 4th floor is refurbished? Just landed and received text room is ready! Didn't get my requests of ground floor with pool view, so hoping for a new room!

Just did my online check-in for BWV (2 studios-one with boardwalk view and one pool/garden). For the room request, I chose upper floor and near lobby. Is that a reasonable/good request? I saw somewhere you should fax the resort your request as well? Is that true? If so, how far out? Also would like to request reno'd rooms and close to another. Is that too much?? Something I'm missing...going for a close walk to exit, lobby, boardwalk itself...

Unless they have made huge progress since October, it probably depends on which part of the 4th floor you are located. Parts were done and others not complete. Good luck! :thumbsup2

Yeah, we've eaten at Citricos a few times in the past. (I think the only signature we haven't eaten in is Chef Paul's or whatever it's called.). I like it, but it's sort of like Jiko. Not overly excited about it beforehand, and then it ends up being a very good meal. :)

I think those are good requests, but if you booked DVC, the member should call member services and also give the requests there. I think they can take three requests (so I would go with renovated room, near lobby, high floor), and then link the two reservations so that they'll try to put them together. Good luck!
