Disney's BIG New Year's Eve Announcement?

The capacity of the Magic Kingdom is what, about 100K? Multiply that by 6 total parks in the CONUS, and that's 600K.

Why would Disney build up all the hype, advertising to hundreds of millions of people for a one day event, that could potentially only benefit 600K guests, and, further, if anybody is going to Disney in Feb 2012, then they probably already have their tickets and plans made.

Just a wild guess, but possibly free admission on 2/29 at all Disney theme parks.

When Disney says they have a surprise announcement it's usually met with a resounding Thud! I sort of expect this to be the same. I was kind of hoping for some sort of announcement related to Downtown Disney.

Hey Aaron  Long time no see.

What kind of DTD announcement were you hoping for?

I've set my expectations low and as long as Tom Bergeron isn't involved, I'll be good. :thumbsup2

Hey Lisa - I was really hoping for some announcement or direction with the ex Pleasure Island area. I thought there maybe some sort of tie-in with New Years Eve and Pleasure Island like in years past where guests would count down each night to midnight and New Years Eve. Just dreaming I guess. :goodvibes

Yeti fixed in 2012...:rotfl2:

That would be nice. I've heard so many stories why the Yeti is broke its hard to pin point just one is for certain. Disney has really kept the wraps on why he's broke. At this point I think the only way he's getting fixed is if he's completely rebuilt from scratch with all new parts.

I think that this is just a marketing thing for them.

I believe that if Disney was going to make a significant announcement such as a fifth gate, than they would do it at a shareholder meeting. At the very least they would do it at a time when their investors could access the stock market, not 11:30 pm on a holiday when everyone will be trashed, and the markets are closed the next day.

Just my opinion. I certainly hope it is a fun announcement!

I think it's just an added date to your park ticket. Buy three days...get four days, etc.

I doubt they would do extra days including hotel on a package. I think it's just park tickets.

I would love to see it linked with volunteering again. I thought that was a terrific idea.

The more I think about it, the more I feel it is something connected to leap year. Anyone else?

I know many seem to feel that the park will be open 24 hours on Feb 29th but I can not see how that would be of interest to everyone to demand this much hype.

Maybe the park will be open 24 hours one day each week..rotating the 4 parks..

That would be my guess as well. And announcement of when Fantasyland expansion phase 1 will be open. So people can start booking their trips.

I don't think Animal Kingdom could ever be open 24 hours!

With such a big focus on clocks and time in that video on the blogs, it makes me think we are going to get some extended park hours. Personally I would love it if every disney park around the world was open from 8am to midnight everyday this year. I can't see them ever doing 24hrs, but at DW the hotel guests could stay in the parks that have the extra magic hours until 3am!

It needs to be something that they have never done before. They have done lots of "Buy so many days, get a day free" type of deals. With all the hype behind this announcement, I am hoping for something totally new that will allow guests access to the parks for a longer period of time each day.

All I want is for it to be something that us UK DISers can take part in too!!!!
(Or they could reopen the Adventurers Club....but I guess there's more chance of the Yeti being fixed!!!!!!)
