Disney's BIG New Year's Eve Announcement?

I hate to be a grump, but I'm disappointed that the announcement was so....anticlimactic. I was hoping for more of a YOAMD type of promo. Anyone else? :confused3

We have local news too. :sad1:

Oh well... one 24hr park day (when I won't be there anyway...) is a little underwhelming.

But I am sure my son will be working it!

as usual, nothing all that earth shattering or even spectacular....
What Would You Do With One More Disney Day?

Take a full 24 hours to create as many memories as you can — because on Leap Day, 2012, Disney Parks are celebrating like never before!

For the first time ever, both Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park will be open for 24 hours of wonder, imagination and magic starting February 29 at 6:00 a.m.

Plus, beginning January 1, 2012, Disney Parks.com is giving away a vacation package every day until February 29, 2012 and has an exciting special offer!

Take part in One More Disney Day, then share with other fans at Let The Memories Begin.
Spend an extra night for free at either a Disneyland Resort Hotel or a Walt Disney World Resort hotel when you book a Room and Ticket Package for 3 nights or more, between February 26 and March 10, 2012. Purchase before January 31, 2012.

Yawn... (Though I am sure someone will be excited if they were already planning a trip for this limited time frame.) This isn't anything that they couldn't have announced without the BIG Announcement lead up. It really isn't that BIG IMO. Someone needs to remind Disney what BIG is...

Well I do have to say that I'm relieved to know that it won't add any extra heavy traffic to my trip, ;) Giving away a trip everyday is pretty cool!

Man, I wish they gave that free day promotion for a longer time period, starting today ! :sad2:

They hyped this announcement up too much.

Mine went to news also. New i could get here to find the answer with in minutes

talk about a thud..it would have been nice to see an announcement, but like many of you, i had local news. then when you go to sign up for the sweepstakes, its says inactive.:confused3. wow. i can't believe they couldn't do a better job of their "big announcement". so disappointed that i waited up for this...

ok, just saw on entry rules, sweepstakes starts at 12:01

Here I am trying to enter the sweepstakes, and I just figured out it is still 2011. I can't wait for 1 hour and 45 minutes to be able to say I am going to WDW this year (with or without winning the sweepstakes!).

Well, the content of the "announcement" was......nonexistent.

But, looking at the positives, I thought the little video on the site was visually interesting. And I'm happy anytime they use "Zippety Doo dah", no matter how altered.

Since I expected nothing, I am not disappointed.

Happy New Year! :thumbsup2

Whoever came up with that promotion should be fired on the spot. They cost the shareholders a bunch of money. I can't believe they wasted money producing commercials to promote one day. By the end of Feb crowd levels are already getting heavier... so what's the point of adding a few more people with this lame 24 hour thing? What, they what phase 3 crowds to happen that day too? Is that magical... when the park is so crowded it takes 2 hours to get on a ride? I don't think so. This was an epic fail on Disney's part. On the website it looks like they added a promotion for a free day but it's only good for a very short window. What's the point? Who's going to plan a trip to Disney where you have to leave in two months? Very DIS...appointed!!!!!

If you think about it, it's not even one more Disney day. I'm assuming that the parks would have been open on 2/29 anyway, so it's just a few more Disney hours.

Did anybody on the east coast actually see the commercial on tv? I had to go to the website because of the local news. Big DIS... appointed.

I haven't seen a commercial. Our local news came on at 11 pm.

I agree that this is not a "Big announcement".

Disney should learn to run its promotions by DISers first LOL We could have saved them thousands of advertising dollars

I did some pricing at both a value hotel at Disneyworld and the Paradise Pier at Disneyland. For the pricing, I priced a trip for 1 adult using the current offer and then this new offer, and the results are really disappointing.

At Pop, this whole FREE days saves me a HUGE $47 dollars! Last time I checked, $47 is not the price of a one night stay! This was found by pricing a room with the current 30% off rate and then this new FREE day offer.

At Disneyland, the savings of the free day are more. However, Disneyland is offering a special to save $500 (!) for a package. It says that you have to finish your stay (check out) on the first, but I can't get it to work online for a checkout that day. So, I have it checking out on the 29th. Since you will be in the park for 24 hours on the 29th anyway, you don't need a room right?!

Anyway, the price of the FREE room offer is $1137 but the other offer were you save $500 (makes no sense because there is no way it is a $500 savings, but oh well) is $1041.

I am really disappointed in this announcement. Disney just keeps letting us down with all this hype for big announcement that never come. I don't consider such a limited time promo that big of a deal. Now if this lasted all year, maybe with the park remaining open 24 hours every weekend opening at 6am on Sat and closing at 6am on sunday, that would have been a different story. While I would LOVE to spend a full day in the park (Disney at night is the best!), there is no way I am going to change my travel plans and take time out of college just for this.

Agreed. Hardly worth all the hoopla.

Me too. (I'm in MA.)

:rotfl: That's for sure!

Just saw the ad, and during it they talk about the free day and all at stuff. Then at the very end it says "Stay tuned for a major announcement from Disney Parks". Could it be that there is still more to come? What else can they DIS...appoint us with?
