Disney's Art of Animation Resort hotel

Oh, that's why I don't know them -- there are no sports fans in my family. :cool1:

But they know what Herbie is?? :confused3

IDK, maybe it's because I grew up with it that I feel differently. A pro hockey team was named after them as well so it just seems odd to me that people don't know it.

Herbie is a classic Disney character. For generations, people have identified VW Beetles (Bugs) as "Herbie." There was even another sequel made just a few years ago, reintroducing Herbie to a whole new generation. The Mighty Ducks are, well, a hockey team. I'm sure the MD films were just fine, but they don't rise to "iconic" Disney status. I'll concede that there are other films that would have been even better than Herbie, but Mighty Ducks? They might as well have themed the building as "Candleshoe." Nice film, but not iconic in stature. In fact, there are not even any actual characters from the film represented, just the "cartoon" goalie masks. And who would really recognize them if there were... "Oh, look... it's that guy in a hockey jersey!"

I guess it's just a difference of opinion. Growing up, I loved the Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot, Little Giants (though this was not a Disney film) and find it hard to believe people don't know what they are. I understand Herbie is an icon but if I asked my 5 year old nephew who Herbie is, he'd have no clue. He knows the Mighty Ducks because of the cartoon spin off. I'll always crack Flying V and Oreo Line references when watching a hockey game because of MD. lol

Now, as for Candleshoe, I have no clue what you're even talking about. :rotfl:

The animated Mighty Ducks series ran one season... 26 episodes. Again, not destined to be a Disney classic.

I would have to say you are not the norm. I have seen Mightly Ducks....a VERY long time ago, as it is old..and though it was OK, it wasn't good, nor was it a classic like many other Disney films. Movies should've went with all cartoons in my opinion. Those are the ones that last forever. Or maybe something like Mary Poppins. She still meets in the parks and is very popular. You don't see a single reference to a Mighty Duck character there. LOL!

Could be I love it so much cause I'm a hockey fan. When was the Mighty Duck section of ASMo opened? When one of the movies was being released? That could be why they went with the MD theme.

we have reservations, for movies, with a mighty ducks request. only because we like being near the "quiet" pool; it is a short walk to the ASMU food court, bus stop, and they decided to make darn near the whole Movies resort "preferred" section! 9when there are 5 sections, and 3 are "preferred", how "preferred" is that?
but I agree that they should now change the theme. those hockey masks are scary! my grandkids have NO IDEA who the mighty ducks are.
and, if you are a hockey fan, well then this theme should be over at the Sports resort. instead of Tennis!
(and, before I get flamed, my dad played tennis all his life.)

It would be more well suited to the Sports resort, I do agree with that statement.

I never understood why people would pay more money for preferred rooms. It's not like they're bigger, just a shorter walk to the main building. If someone in your party is handicapped, it makes sense. But other than that, it's extra money for no extra perk besides being closer and those resorts aren't that big to begin with!

before we went to the ASMU this year, I was under the impression that the buildings were spread soooooo far apart and the back buildings were sooooooooo far from the entrance. Which I'm sure is what they want you to think so they can convince you to pay the $$ for Preferred. It didn't apply to me anyways as we were staying in the suites, and granted I never did walked all the way to the back buildings (only to the little pool) but I couldn't believe how close our building (Jazz) was to the front. I was expecting it to be like a 6-7 minute walk when it was really a 2 minute walk.

I'd pay extra just to be in a building that is not Mighty Ducks!!!! :rotfl2:

Normally I would agree with you. However, my last stay at the Music was in December, when they had that extremely cold snap. I had actually booked a preferred room, but they had oversold them, so I was bumped back to non-preferred. The Broadway section to be exact. I would have dearly loved to have had the shorter walk in that cold weather!

Why not just revamp all-star movies, then, if the decor and theming feels outdated? The all-stars have felt tired for a *while*.
I feel like AOA is such a waste. The turn of the last century has always been fascinating to me and I was so exicted for the rest of the resort to be finished. Oh well. I suppose I'm in the minority, here. :sad2:

Then I'm in the minority with you. I'm happy that they're finally doing something with it, as it was untouched for a long time, but I'd much rather them finish through with the original idea. They already have a Movies resort. This is more of the same, the only difference is that there will be suites at AoA.

I agree with you. They needed more suites for larger family groups, but it sounds more like an addition to the All Star Movies to me, than a sister resort to Pop Century. Glad to see something done with the property though, but I can only imagine what the 1920's section would be like. The roaring 20's theme seemed interesting to me. Oh Well.:confused3

I don't understand why they abandoned the idea altogether. :confused3
