We really loved out visit to AKL so much that we our planning our next trip there already. I can't say enough good things about the resort. Our kids make cookies 2 afternoons at Boma's. They loved the pool and I vote 2 thumbs up for the pool and hot tubs.

We booked concierge so we didn't eat much at the resort. We did manage pizza at Marra once and it was good.

Service was great and everyone was friendly and very helpful.

We were on the Kudu trail in room 3495 all the way at the end. Very quiet and peaceful and it helped work off some of the food with the hike there.

I thought AKL concierge rooms were on the 5th and 6th floors? Also, what did they have in the lounge as far as refreshments? We might try AKL concierge next time...we did the Polynesian concierge from Dec. 19-25, mainly because I had read that it was the most kid-friendly, and it was great.

I still don't know how we ended up where we did. We were on the 4th floor though.

Food offering were fruit, oatmeal, cereals, juices, bagels, muffins, pastries, tea, hot chocolate, coofee and the machine was broken during our visit. From 730-1030

Then snacks like nuts, sunflower seeds, pretsels, gummy bears.

From 3:00-4:00 tea with scones, peanut buuter sanwhiches, tea cookies.

5:00-7:00 appetizers from Jiko and Boma along with chicken nuggets for kids. Wines also.

8:00-10:00- desserts and cordials.

DH aand I are planning a trip for Nov 03. WE will take our DS(who will be 3 1/2) and our twin DS (who will be 1 ). DH will stay back w/twins but I would like to take older DS on safari. My parents will be with us. Is this possible??? Also can 2 cribs fit in romm???? Thanks!

hi all, i just have a couple of questions, we are going to be there in may for 5 nights and i was wondering if concierge is worth it or should we just do a savannah view,i am afraid if we do concierge that we will not get a savannah view and that is what we want. we will be staying using our points from DVC and is is 17 points less a night to do just savannah instead of concierge,so please help me decide, this will be our first stay at AKL and this will be myself and my DH first trip alone since our honeymoon so i want this to be very special.
thanks,misty:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hey, Misty!

We're using points to stay two nights in February - I'll let you know if it was worth it when we get back. :)

Do any of the rooms at AKL open to the lobby like some of the rooms do at WL. If so are they Standard, Pool, Savanah, Concierge?? Thanks!

I'm looking at a resort map and trying to figure out what would be the best room request. There is no indication of where on the 6th floor the club is located.

Since I want a savannah view room I thought about requesting:
5th floor savannah view, Zebra Trail, close to Arusha Rock, Bunk bed room.

Is there such a thing??lol!

I realize we'll have to go up a floor to access the K Club, but we wanted a savannah view and this request seems to be our best bet. Any comments, suggestions or info on where the K Club is located?

TIA

Hey,

Me and the family are going to AKL in April for 7 days. Its myself, my wife, my parents and my wife's mother, so there will be 3 rooms. We all have booked standard rooms, so here is my question. My father can't get around too well, so i guess I want him near the lobby. What are the best rooms near the lobby? As for us we can be anywhere, so are there any better standard rooms? Also, is there anyway that we will be able to upgrade rooms at all, that is without having to pay extra for them? Did anyone pull this off?

And one other thing, how is the transportation from AKL to the parks, particularly Epcot and Magic Kingdom? I know AKL is the farthest resort, but how far is the ride on the buses?

Also, has anyone eaten at JIKO or BOMA? How was it? We really enjoyed OHANA and I'm wondering if those places are anything like that?

Thanks for all the info in advance.

We stayed at AKL back in December and the restaurants there are great. I was a little leary of trying Jiko at first but now I am so glad we did. The food was absolutley wonderful. I want to go back so I can go to Jiko again!

My husband and I also loved Boma. You have got to try the Zebra Domes on the dessert bar. They are great! Boma's food is definitley different from your standard buffet fare, but excellent! They have an area with Mc and cheese, spaghetti and chicken tenders too. Our kids ate mostly the chicken and mac and cheese. My son did enjoy the prime rib though, it was very good.
You can get a lot of info and pics at www.wdwig.com
There is a restaraunt menu there for Boma and Jiko and tons of pictures. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!
Enjoy your trip, AKL is magical!

Because the lobby is actually on the 3rd floor, that is probably where you'll want your Dad to be. Also, request his room near the elevator, and on the same side as the pool. The restaurants are all on that side, so it will minimize the walking. The corridors are pretty long at this hotel, so that could be important for him. As far as upgrades, If your going prior to April 25, I wouldn't really count on them. That is busy season and the hotel will be crowded. It certainly wouldn't hurt you to ask in a pleasant manner upon check in however!
This hotel is truly spectacular! You will absolutely love it. We only ate in Mara while there. We found the food to be very good. Not a great variety for lunch/dinner, but we didn't want to eat in the same place every night anyhow. Fairly reasonable as far as prices (this is still Disney!) We used our refillable mugs often! (Another reason to request a room on the Mara side of the resort!)

By the way, WELCOME to the boards Armydark!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Hi--
anyone have info on my questions--posted right above armydark-thanks!

You can request a savannah view, I think people request whatever particular trail they want to be on. If a savannah view is most important to you-make that your first request. You should make your requests in the order of importance. I believe there are bunk bed rooms on the 5th floor. You can request as much as you want but they can't guarantee anything.

I believe the concierge rooms are bigger than the regular rooms because they also have a day bed.

I was told by the Concierge people that they try their best to meet all requests.

You might be getting too particular with your request but you never know, you could get everything you want.

Thanks for the info. Do you know which floor the Kilimanjaro Club is on? TIA!

We're starting to plan our first trip with ds (4) for oct. My parents are going too. AK is where we want to stay, I guess a savannah room is what we want, but I would like to be close to the pool and all that too! DS wants to see Zebras, giraffes

Any suggestions on room requests? I'd like either connecting with parents or across the hall...t different views?

Is there early entrance into the park with AK?

Are ther any discounts available for oct reservations yet?

Do I have to wait to book rooms or can I get the discounts when they become available?

Should I book through travel agent or can I get a better rate callling direct?

Any other suggestions or thoughts are GREATLY appreciated!

Postal1110,

That's a good idea about rooms across the hall with different views. That is what we did at WL last October. That way, you get to enjoy both views and you pretty much can switch with the other people in your party if you want to look at the pool and they want to look at the animals.

Just make a request to be on the same floor across the hall from eachother. I think it will work.

I'm sure someone can correct me if you can't get a pool and savannah view across the hall from eachother.

You can book now and add a discount later. You can get a Disney Club or AAA discount now. Just book and then wait for a code or something to come out and you can call back and have it applied to your reservation.

Hope this helps.

Not all of the pool view rooms are across from a savanna view room. The pool view rooms on the Giraffe Trail have standard view rooms across from them.
