Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort Frequently Asked Questions (slight update 5/14)

I've seen pics of the King rooms and my ??? is about the daybeds. Just how big ARE they? We're wondering if our DS who is about 5' 8" can sleep on it.

How about the Bunkbeds? Will a teenager be comfortable on the bunk beds?

A teenager in the bunk beds will be comfortable. They are a twin bed size. As far as the daybeds, they open up flat and look to be about the same size as a twin bed. Our daughter who is 5'8" slept there and said it was fine.

Remember a King bedroom is "just a request". We have been blessed with a King room on all of our visits, however not everyone has had the same experience. It all depends on guest stays and availability.

Have a wonderful vacation.

Oh, of course! Our trip has been booked for many months and we actually have our request in for bunk beds. I was just asking "in case" our request for bunkbeds is not fulfilled. I wanted to make sure our teenage son would be comfortable on either the bunks or the daybed. We also have a 4 year old but we know that she will be comfy in any of the sleeping situations.

:)
I can tell you that on our last trip we stayed at AKL and WL with bunkbeds at both. The AKL bunk beds were very comfortable for both my DS, one 6'4" and the other 6" even. They had no problem and as I recall, they were the size of a regular twin bed. The WL bunks were very small in comparison. I think your DS will be quite comfy in a bunk. I have no clue on the daybeds however I've been told that they are only about 5 ft long???? Hope that helps!

We were in the standard savannah rooms last October. My two teens had bunk beds and were perfectly comfy in them. My son was about 5'8" (he has grown a bit more since then!).

You'll love AKL - we certainly did.

I paid extra for the bunk bed room and it was written out on my reservation.

I think the king bed -vs- 2 doubles is more up in the air because they are both the same price and interchangable.

I think it might be a good idea to ask a CM to mention your son's height on your reservation as a consideration when placing you. There is a big difference between being picky and having justified reasons for your requests.

FYI - bunk bed rooms are a separate category; you can't just request them now. If you really want bunk beds, you should check your reservation to see whether you booked a bunk bed room. If not, and you want it, you should check to see if there are anymore bunk bed rooms left for your dates and change your reservation.

We are headed over for two nights like RIGHT NOW! My other half went over early this morning to check us in, hoping we'd get bunkbeds. We went for the view and tried to get the bunkbeds. We got the view, but no bunkbeds. So, we think we are going to put the cot on the other queen bed and tell Ben it's a bunkbed! He won't buy it...LOL We are on Zebra Trail all the way at the end! Thanks to DISBoards, we knew now where to look for the best rooms.

FYI...bunkbed rooms are reserved at the time of reservations, at an additional $25 per night.

I am so excited.

Okay.. my reservation does say "bunkbed room" but I still thought it was a
request as opposed to a separate category. I had no idea I was paying an xtra $25 per night for them. Wow.

Thanks for your help, everyone. At least now I know that we'll definately be getting the bunks and it sounds like my DS will be perfectly comfortable on them.

If the only rooms available with your discount are bunk bed rooms and you've paid the extra $$ per night, but don't want one, what do you think the chances are upon check-in to get something else? Still willing to pay the extra $$. Not looking for a credit, the discount more than makes up for it. We are all adults, and none of us wants to sleep in a bunk bed. Would also put the request in the ressie, but we are hesitant to take the chance.

We put in a request in our reserv for King room but paid the extra for bunk beds because of a sale and they weren't able to get us the King room and ended up downgrading us to a plain queen room with no bunkbeds (with no refund) when they found out there were just 2 adults. Getting just a queen room was no problem but getting the King room wasn't possible for us.

I am not sure about "downgrades." Good question. Although we just went down to checkin to see if there was an extra room for my fiance's daughter...Lodge is sold out for tonight! So, nothing is an option at this point. We specifically asked for bunkbed room and that's verbatim what the castmember told my fiance...$25 extra per night for that option. So, we got Room 3550 (reporting live from balcony now) and great view of the giraffes. The update for DVC room is it is quite loud here during the day. Drilling, etc. above our heads on the 6th floor. So, we were able to get Zebra Trail, but with noise. I know lots of people were asking about construction interruptions. It's noisy, and there will be water interruption in our wing from 12-2 today. Other than that, we are just plain happy to be here!

You're there RIGHT NOW???

I'm sooooo jealous! Enjoy your stay! I'll keep looking out for info. from you, as we'll be staying AKL for the first time in June!

Have fun!

Bensmom on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad would you say the noise level is? I am assuming where you are you are right in the middle of the construction?

Where exactly is the construction going on? Is it just one part of the resort? Is there a map of where the construction is happening?

I really want to book AKL end of August...but I really don't want to hear hammering and drilling while i'm on vacation

We have a family of 6: DH, DW, DD10, DD9, DD7, and DS4.

Currently, only option is to get 2 rooms, which is not practical. I understand that they are building 2-bedroom Villas (DVC?). Does anyone have info on when these are to be completed? We would like to go October '08. Thanks.

Bensmon, what times during the day is the construction? Basically, my question is how early do they start in the morning?

The first batch of rooms open in Sept of '07, the 2nd in Dec of '07, and the last in May of '08. After that it'll be in the new building, which will open in phases starting sometime in '09.

I'm not sure how much inventory will be available for cash ressies (some, for sure), or how hard it will be for non-AKV owning DVC members to book on points. We'll have to wait and see.

Donald is #1 I talked to the lady today at AKL because I was curious about the same. She said that we should expect construction during the hours of 9 am to 5 pm.

Thanks! 9 AM is fine for me because I am always too excited when I at WDW to sleep too late! :lmao:

More like 5:30...spent Tuesday and Wednesday there. Checked out yesterday. It's running past 5 PM. No mid-day nap for us.
