Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

i'll be at Sports next week for 8 days.

buying a new mug but curious on how the new system will be working then.

Just back from 6 nights at ASSp. The hotel itself was very nice, clean and comfortable. Our room was in Building 4, tennis theme, with a nice view of the parking lot. Out room was ready upon our arrival at 1230.The staff was very curtious and helpful. The pool staff was great, especially Stacy who ran the game activities there. For the money I suppose it was about what I expected and as this was our second trip to WDW in three months I liked that it was cheaper than the moderate we stayed at in June. I guess what really turned me off of ASSp was the rudeness of some of the other guests. I am a smoker and as such I always try to respect those who don't. I will make the walk to a DSA rain or shine. Others there didn't seem to find this necessary. I saw several folks walking the property and smoking or smoking on the balcony outside their rooms and I found an empty beer bottle with a cigarette butt in it on my way to the DSA one morning. Also, several guests thought it unnecessary to put on proper attire when they did go to the DSA. Pajama bottoms and no shirt or shoes? Really? Come on people! The resturant seemed to always be crowded so we only ate there once. The food was good though. We would venture out to other resorts to try the food there and were quite impressed. POFQ, CSR and PR were much less crowded and the food was good and plentiful. Bus service to the parks was great. We never waited more than five minutes however coming home they were always SRO. Thankfully there was always a gentleman willing to give up their seat so DW and DD could sit. Probably won't stay here again unless I'm on a tight budget but only because of the other guests.

I just returned from a stay at Disney, and spent my first 2 nights at All Star Sports before moving to the Coronado Springs Resort.
It was my first stay at a Value Resort, and I was pleasantly surprised! The Cast Members were SO friendly & welcoming. I had a very nice room on the ground floor in Center Court, facing the landscaping. I did not eat at the food court. I found the bus system worked fine for my needs as well. The only thing I really don't like about the Value Resorts is not having an in-room coffee maker. I brought my own mini coffee maker, so that solved that issue.
While I really prefer the Coronado Springs resort, I was glad I added 2 days onto the beginning of my trip so I could try All Stars. I would stay there again! :)

We will be staying at the AsSp Feb. 19-26 for the Princess Half Marathon and bringing all 6 kids with us. We will be in adjoining (hopefully) rooms and I was just wondering what the buildings and areas are where it would be quieter, as we will have a 6 mo old and a 2 year old who still need to nap during the day and we will all need sleep during the night!

What are your suggestions?

Hi y'all, this will be our first trip, well as Florida residents. :cool1:

We will be there from November 27th for ten days. No sense in booking our usual 2 weeks as we will be returning in January and several other times next year.:thumbsup2

I am just loving the shorter commute as opposed to the two day trek I used to have to make.

jodgaff, you all will be so worn out that maybe noise will not be a big problem but I might suggest that you ask for a back side room away from the football field and the pool. Not a good view but really how much time are you going to spend looking out the windows?

Macraven, if the dining plan still gives us a new mug we will be using it but what I am going to do with my 'lifetime' mugs now? :dance3: Lucky for us the mugs are never a big deal anyway. Please let us know how the system goes. I trust reports from folks I 'know'. Thanks. :flower3:

i am making my third trip to ASSP on December 15th, i stayed here in 1996, 2009 and now this year. The first trip we were in Surf's Up (before it became preferred section) and last time we were in Touchdown 7. I am not too picky about what section we are placed in, I am just happy I am getting to go, thought we were going to miss our disney fix this year since i had to scrap the plans to go in October. I had a tease in july when we were visiting colleges and we stopped over the Boardwalk and did Typhoon Lagoon one day. Since this is the only onsite property I've ever stayed at I dont know what I am supposed to be missing. We never had a major issue with the buses, the last time we were here it was during pop warner and the only time we waiting for a bus an extended amount of time was after EMH @ the MK one night, if I remember correctly we had to wait for either 3 or 4 buses before we were able to get on, but i think it was because it was pop warners last night and they were all taking advantage of the EMH. I love the food court (mainly because i can get my mickey waffle fix). This is the first time we will have the QSDP so it will be like an entire new experience. This is a xmas/18th birthday present for my daughter so i dont think anything can ruin it for us. 28 days cant wait :dancer::

didn't know you had posted.
for some reason i have not been receiving my notifications on the threads...

first things first.

congratulations on the big move to florida.
i'm green as kermit............:worship:

to answer your question, yuck.

i talked to different managers and they told me the new system will be in a 6 month trial period.
they want to fix the bugs they have with this program and see if it is going to be a permenent thing.

depending on how the trial period runs, will determine if it stays.
if it stays, it will probably move on to other resorts.

i bought the mug when i checked in.
mugs are cute and colorful.
they sold more of the purple lid mugs than the other colors.
(orange, green, yellow)

on two different days and time periods, a manager asked me if i could be their guniea pig with the mugs.

they told me to go to a certain beverage and use my mug.

some of them would honor my chip and dispense the beverage and a few times my mug was rejected.

the manager would manually reset the system each time for this test as there is a 4 minute lapse period one can use their mug after the first usage.

there is a read out of your mug on how long the chip is active for using it and also gives the time you have to wait if you are trying to do a refill.

after the testing with a manager on the first 2 days i was there in the food court, i had issues each time in using my mug.

when i bought food there, i would then use my mug. (not as a refill but a first time using it for the beverage.)

each time it would reject my chip info and give me a time period of 2 min. 13 sec before i could get it filled.
i had not used the mug prior when this happened.

on my 4th day of dealing with this baloney, i went to the manager to let her know what was happening.

they exchanged my mug for another.
they said the chip in my mug had melted and was non functioning.
they think it was due to all the coffee i was getting each morning with it. :confused3

the second mug worked all day and evening.

on day 4 at the food court, i encountered the same issues as in the beginning.

another exchange of the mug.......then another mug.
apparently, the batch of purple lid mugs they were selling were defective.

the manager told me they are trying to work out and fix the problems that were happening with the refill set ups.

all i know is, i didn't like the system.
i have no problem in buying another new mug each trip.
i do have a problem of not being allowed to get refills due to the malfunctioning of the equipment.

sometimes the coke beverages were practically clear water that came out.
they had to be loaded.
when that happened, i had the restriction of waiting for the refill time.

i did have a few jerks read the screen and read out loud the time period i had to wait for the beverage to dispense.
i assume they thought i did not know how to read...

and then tell me to move aside........

when it happened to them, they were a bit softer in words to me.....

i only was there for 8 days.
only used the beverage machines in the morning for coffee.
no problem there.

if i would leave later for the parks, i would eat lunch at the food court and get a coke.
also, i would get coke in the evening after i returned from the parks.

i don't like a system when i have to get the manager or supervisor to come reset the machine when i need my drink.
i'm standing there with a food tray just wanting to sit down and eat.

during the time period i was there, a lot of guests had similar issues like i did.

now that it is november, i hope that system has improved.
i have not read about the beverage system trial since i have been back.

after you do your stay there, let me know if it has improved.

Hi :flower3:..... I was at assp Oct 23 - 31. Bought the mug, used it ONE TIME and I messed it up. I pushed some red Hawaiian Punch stuff and was too tired to wait for something I really wanted. :hippie: Ended up just drinking coffee the whole time I was there because it didn't have the timer on the mug. :rotfl: I'm not sure I'm capable of properly using the new mugs. May just skip it next time. I vote no on new system if anyone wants input. :sad2:

sounds like the 'new' system hasn't been corrected yet.

sorry that happened to you.

i was there in october before columbus day.

If the new mug system is on a 6 month trial period I believe it started in May making 6 months November. I would think a decision would be made soon to keep it or give it the boot. Does anyone else remember when ti started for sure?

i thought it was mid august, maybe early august.

i could be wrong.
i would have to locate the thread that talked about the new system.

Ok how stupid of me I was there in May/June and they did not have the new system then. Since I asked I looked it up and the new machines were installed between 7/12 and 7/18 so that would make mid January the 6 month mark. Maybe Slightly Goofy could let us know if they are taken out when she goes back in January???? What do you say SG?

Hey, I am so glad I happened to drop by this morning. I see some of my favorite peeps here!

Mac, that system sucks for so many reasons. My husband being able to go to the food court and get himself a drink by himself at some point in our day is the only saving grace I have for what little sanity I have left. I get new cups with our FD pkg so that is not a problem. At some point keeping a few folks from abusing the system is less important than keeping the rest happy. Frankly the cost of the mugs has gotten so high that it almost makes folks want/need to fudge, sort of like the high prices on movie snacks. (Don't bother to flame me cause it is my opinion and that is that) BTW, you are right to be green with envy cause it is a dream here.:thumbsup2

Ang, how ya doing? I keep thinking of you and hoping for some good news from your direction. Very busy here and especially right now with getting ready to leave Sunday.:flower3:

Just a warning to all my DIS board friends that I will be nekkid at Disney this trip.

It seems that my bag of Christmas decorations did not make the cut in our recent move and are stashed somewhere in Indiana.:confused3

So not wild room decorations, nary a can of corn.:scared1:

Unless I find time to do a new one there will be no Slightly Goofy decorated walker.

I do have some of my famous t shirts but not enough for all ten days.:sad2:

You will have to just recognize me by my big silly grin.;)

SG/Linda 11/27-12/07 Sports, where else?

Linda,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that your GS's called you. I bet they miss you.

No news on this end and I suspect we will be lucky to be able to sell by next spring/summer. Who wants to move in the cold?

2 more sleeps and you will be at your favorite place in no time flat. Enjoy that new mug system. :scared1: Are you going to ask about those lifetime mugs you own? I would love to hear what they say about them. Well you enjoy your nakked trip as I am sure anyone worth running into will know who you are without all the decorations. :thumbsup2

Never fear dear friends, I will correct the current beverage situation. My husband has 'issues' that I generally try to contain. When he gets nervous and anything that happens that he does not like brings that out it is not a pretty sight. I have given him full permission to act upon his inclinations if he tries to get a drink and it does not work a he expects. That means he will be dragging every single CM he can see to do it for him and it will not bother him at all to do so copious times an hour and since it is his wont to drink literally dozens of cups of coffee a day (not to mention the gallons of tea that I request and usually get for myself) it should be a deterent to any thoughts of 'chipped' cups in Disney's future.:dance3: Frankly the refillable cups are more bother than they are worth to me but having dh able to go to the food court for a couple of hours a day is priceless.

Ang, no phone calls from any of the people I gave life to but it was not expected. Heard from a former neighbor that they are still planning on coming at Christmas.:santa: We had a wonderful Thanksgiving as the couple that aided us in determining to move here came over and we had a nice relaxing day with great conversation and no drama. I hope yours was good and maybe one day you and yours can join us before or after your trip to WDW??:cloud9:

Macraven, I just noticed that you are going to be my neighbor this coming week. Any chance I could get to meet you in person? :cheer2:

Unless they changed something recently the chips in the mugs are only for soda. You can still drink a gallon of coffee or tea an hour if you want to.

i was there last month.
i wish i would be there when you are so i could leave a lime green mickey under your door..........

enjoy your trip !

it was that way when i was there but you never know if that will always be so.

Linda,
If we are there next year and settled we will invite you and Tom over for Thanksgiving.

That's right Coffee and tea are not regulated but I did hear there was a problem if you drink hot beverages and then go for soda the hot beverage tends to burn out the chip for the soda machine.
