Disney's $1 billion dollar bet on magical wristband - Wired

You can't lie (unless you cross illegal lines) in quarterly earnings calls. They've said among other things guest spending is up too.
Again I'm not saying they lied because they don't have to but disney can spin a guest survey that isn't hard to do just like PP said you limit the options on the surgery so you get the results you want.

Take a deep breath and back slowly away from the font colors.......

It is what it is. As you point out in your response. Capex to other areas besides WDW. No reason to tout a re-themed Toontown as a major ride win for Orlando.

It is what it is - the 5-7 year plan for WDW - Avatar next

They don't need any help on spin and marketing. They're the masters.

But you're right. We do get NextGen. ....
I like them.

I'd say it's almost undoubtable that they could've built more. However, the plethora of ride openings that have done more then enough to sustain the growth.

Yep, we have nextgen!

I wish we had our own version of parentsof4 from wdwmagic he'd be here countering everything with facts and graphs to show that it really hasn't been a plethora of new rides.

Nah, we're lucky to be getting any new rides as it is. Disney has been on a role without major updates. People are speaking with their wallets, and they want more of what Disney's giving them.

Exactly were lucky to be getting new rides as it is. That right there means we haven't gotten a plethora or new rides. Disney is going to start to get to that point to out price repeat visitors and first timers will go in debt because of their trip. By no means could my family afford the trip we took last summer with extra money we had. We went because we are fans of the place but who knows when we will be back as a family because of the prices.

Yes, guest spending is up, but it's the same percent as DLR so it can't be attributed to MB's. Additionally, Dinsey has increased ticket prices, room rates, merchandise, and food prices. I even think they attributted the increased profits to the price increases.

I've not seen the DLR growth being in perfect conjunction with WDW. Please show me that data.

"Increased guest spending was primarily due to higher average ticket prices for admissions at our theme parks and for sailings at our cruise line and increased food, beverage and merchandise spending." That would be the area effected by My Magic.

We don't know exactly by how much. They have said it's moved the needle. They could be sued if they lied.

No, that means that we're lucky to be getting a plethora of rides. Hey, as long as attendance moves up in conjunction with the profit increases they don't care about us little guys.

They should because I spend a good amount of money at those parks. Also I'm still not seeing this plethora we are getting. Avatar is bringing two. That's all we are getting for sure, who knows what will happen at DHS.

Nah, Disney is a massive conglomerate. Their lower duty is to the welfare of all the businesses. If it's not in their business interests to bring the money to WDW, then they won't. They're seeking the highest rate of return and WDW doesn't have it. It would be cool if it did.

I've been thinking more in the past decade. 3 E Tickets.

Though if we're talking about the next few years we're on track to nearly match the entire DCA expansion numbers by 2017. Supposing Avatar boat ride doesn't get delayed we'll have:
1) E Ticket Flying Ride =Compare to RSR
2) Boat Ride = Compare to Mater's JJ
3) Frozen =Compare to Ariel
4) RoL= WoC

That just leaves the Red Cars and Flying Tires which is blowing away.

Comparable actually.

If we are thinking past decade the last true e ticket was EE which was in 2006. 9 years ago. Frozen I cancel out because it's taking place of a ride that left it's technically not new.

Nah, TSMM is beloved by many and is a large draw. It's also is a showstopper. I'd say TSMM is one.
Then we can cancel out Ariel because it removed an attraction too.

They didn't lie. They didn't directly attribute MDE for the increase. They never made a definite statement. If they could have said at any time, "MDE is making money!" They would've said it at the shareholder meeting, but they can't. Increased food, merch, and beverage spending was also due to price increases.

I'm glad you think Disney is such an infallible company, but I don't. I think you're the only person on this thread who keeps defending their practices, but I'm done responding to you.

So while there have been attraction additions I don't think there has been a plethora or a lot of them.

"following on what Bob just said about MyMagic+ becoming accretive this quarter, I will tell you that the increase in contribution from MyMagic+ this year will outweigh the preopening spending on Shanghai Disneyland in our total numbers for fiscal 2015."

That's 10s of millions. They would be lying if they said anything otherwise. I don't think that can be spun.

Who said anything about infallibility.
I think the company that has grown drasticly over the last 5 years deserves some respect. This isn't Enron. They're meeting their ultimate goal extremly well. Also the SEC would be at their throats if they said things like "a significant portion of guests rate their experience as excellent" without backing of survey work.

I think saying a significant portion of guests like it is vague. A significant portion of what demographic? What were the options on the survey? How many people were asked? I feel those questions need to be asked.

I think you'd be talking 25%-50% rating excellent. Then there would be the satisfied crowd that should more then push it above 50% satisfaction.

Randomly selected probably on different income/geographic lines. It has to be reasonable or they're at risk of lawsuit.

If they provided real quantitative answers to these questions, I don't think the shareholders would be impressed. I think they using the "baffle them with BS" approach. Evidently, some people are satisfied with these non-statements.:rolleyes1
