Disneyland

...I've been pushing for a trip for my family to DL, but since we live so close to WDW, my wife always says no; however she's insisting that I not go to DL w/o my family even though I'd get to go for pretty much nothing. ...

So, she doesn't want to eat chocolate cake, but doesn't want you to eat it without her?

I'm sorry, but that is just plain silly. If she doesn't feel that a family trip to DL is the right vacation for your family, that's just fine. However, you have an opportunity to go experience something VERY easily (that she does not want to take your family to experience), so why not? :confused3

I would TOTALLY understand if DL was a trip that you both have been trying to arrange for your family, but has not happened. However, that is not the case. So... I say "Of course you should go!"

Disneyland is fun to explore as a solo adult. You can do what you want, when you want. You can skip the "kiddie rides" if you want, enjoy shows, shops, scenery, so much to see and do!

Lastly, I would like to comment on the WDW comparison. You can't do it. If you must compare, the comparison is The Magic Kingdom to Disneyland. For that comparison, having just returned from WDW, I will say that Disneyland is far better. It's just more magical. Some say it's because it's the original, others will say it's because it was Walt's. I don't know why - I just know it has a little something special that lacks at the MK. Come see for yourself, I bet you will agree. :wizard:

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I've got a question to pose to yall. I will be staying in Anaheim for business next October. My company will fly me out there, furnish a room (since the convention center is less than a mile from Disneyland, I'll probably stay on property). Here's my dilema. I've been pushing for a trip for my family to DL, but since we live so close to WDW, my wife always says no; however she's insisting that I not go to DL w/o my family even though I'd get to go for pretty much nothing. I'd only have 1 day to hit the parks since I'll be there on business, but figured this would be the chance of a lifetime. I've heard we'll be disappointed because most people compare WDW to DL, but I want to go to see the original. I want to ride the original POTC and HM. What should I do? She's an avid DSer like I am. :confused3

Wait a minute... she won't go along, but she won't allow you to go when you're going to be right there??? Sorry, but that is just nutso!!!

Go to Disneyland, how could you NOT go to Disneyland??? You don't have to tell her you went! hahaha

Disneyland and Disney World are very different in so many ways. You should absolutely see Walt's park, don't miss out on your chance.

When DH was down in CA for business in november I insisted he stay an extra night so he could go to DL for the day :) But I got jealous and booked us another quick trip in dec :)

Anyway...Do it. And I agree, skip DCA. I think that you will need to utilize your time in DL and if next fall is anything like this oct was then it'll be crowded. Tower of terror, it's tough to be a bug, muppet vision 3D, Soarin...these are all in WDW. Although I believe DCA is worth visiting if you convince your wife to come along I would leave it for now. :)

If you directly compare Disneyland park to Magic Kingdom park you definitely won't be disappointed. Disneyland is a lot better than the Magic Kingdom. Many more details. More rides. Space Mountain is soooo much better. Indiana Jones is awesome. POTC is a lot better than at WDW. the list could go on and on. I definitely recommend going!

Magic Kingdom at WDW is inferior by far to DL in my opinion. Orlando's version of all their parks has just way too much wasted space in between everything. Disneyland is my new home park. It is our family's favorite Disney resort.

Favorite quote of mine:
There's an answer the old timers at Disney like to give when asked to compare the Anaheim and Orlando main parks, and to me it still applies as to how they are currently run: Disneyland is a park designed by a father for his daughters, while the Magic Kingdom is designed by a committee for the hordes.
