DIS Unplugged oc_tony's benefit run fundraising challenge:

OK, so I know it's the Tinkerbell, but for those of you who listen to the Disneyland edition of the DIS Unplugged podcast, you know that I have signed up and will be running in this 1/2 marathon. I am running to benefit a wonderful charity, and if we can raise $2000, I have agreed to do the race in a tutu and wings. All proceeds go to benefit Give Kids the World, an amazing resort near Walt Disney World for children with life-threatening illnesses. They partner with wish-granting organization (like the Make-A-Wish Foundation) to provide week long vacations for these special kids and their families at no cost.

If you wish to make a donation, click here for the FirstGiving page. Any size donation is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!! :goodvibes

We'll be there. It'll be our anniversary and a kid free trip for us and we are hoping to stay at GCH.

That's great Shannon! Are you a runner? Not sure if you found the accommodation rates but I finally found them here: http://www.gettravel.com/tinkerbellhalfmarathon/ GCH is $299/night + taxes.

I wish we could stay at the GCH; but after airfare from SEA for me and Edmonton, AB, Canada for my niece plus 5 days at a hotel (gotta make some time for the parks not just the race :)) We were on strict budget mode and chose the Park Vue.

I hope you & DH have a fabulous kid free anniversary! My DH and I celebrate 10 years this year in Aug and are headed to Kauai in October for our trip.

Thanks for the link. I'm NOT a runner. DH has ran a 10k, and we may opt to just do the 5k, we'll see. We'll just go for a long weekend. We celebrated 10 years in January and postponed our anniversary trip since we are taking the kids to Disney World for 2 weeks in September.

I am making this a Check-In thread like the Sept 1/2 has. Anyone else registered yet? I think I read that they Sept 1/2 was full after 6 weeks or something like that. Wonder when this new race will fill up. I am very excited to be running my first 1/2 marathon as part of the first Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon. Kind of a neat symmetry. :)

I'm registered! I was once a runner....a L O N G time ago. I did the Castaway Cay 5k in December and decided I wouldn't get back in to running regularly unless I put my money into it!

So starting tomorrow I will be stepping up the fitness routine. I have found a few interesting training programs and hope to be up to par by Thanksgiving!

I think I'm going to sign up for a few 5&10k's in the meantime as "check ins" to map my progress.

Glad to meet all of you!

Way to go Andrea! I am actually really looking forward to this motivating me to get into exercising. My MD gave me "the look" when I mentioned that I was very active but didn't really "exercise". She said, "everyone needs to exercise, not just unhealthy people." Um, ok. :)

Anyone else registered? Will this be your first 1/2 marathon or are you an old pro?? Anybody aiming for the Coast to Coast medal??

My DW signed up for it as well. I am sure we will be staying at anaheim plaza hotel. This is our third planed trip in 5 months. :scared1: We have a week long trip in Sept., then a short 3 day trip in Dec. and now a 3 day trip in Jan. oh lord now off to rob a bank to be able to pay for all this. :lmao:

OH and I know my DD will more then likely be in a :cheer2: comp. some time around there as well. starting to feel  abd excited.

I lasted all of two days before I went ahead and registered. Definitely going for the Coast to Coast. I haven't decided where to stay yet. I am doing the half in September and it will be my first time staying at the Disneyland Hotel.

Krash, I know exactly how you feel when you talked about the cost. Until I listed out my races on another thread, I had no idea how much money I had spent.:scared1:

Happy training:)

I signed up!

I have to say though that I'm really not excited about the theme. I've never really liked Tinkerbell to be honest. But my running partners starting running the one in September in its second year, and have run it ever since. They're so mad they didn't make that first one that I could resist signing up for a "first"!

Is anyone else doing the 5k that weekend? I'm really excited for that one! I've never run a night race before.

I haven't decided if I'll do a coast-to-coast next year. I did the WDW half in January and am doing the one in September so I'll get coast-to-coast this year. But I REALLY wanna do the Wine & Dine :drinking1

Is anyone getting the necklace? I wish we could see what they look like first

My good friend and I are signed up for this race. :scared1:

I have not done a half, yet. However, I am also running/walking the 1/2 in September (with my mom).

We are local so, so we are not staying anywhere.

My hope is that in 2012, I will also be able to do the Wine and Dine, so I can get the Coast to Coast.

As someone else stated, not over thrilled about the whole Tinkerbell thing, but since my friend was to late to get into the Sept. 1/2, I am doing this one also.

Very nervous, we are trainging, but I have never done the 1/2 before. We have done the 5k out here in Sept, but this is so much longer!

I've added a check in at the top and also a link to the event info.

Hi
I'm a newbie here and signed up for the 1/2 marathon last weekend (before the prices went up!!). I got the necklace too- wasn't clear if they were also going to be available for purchase at the expo but I figured it would be a nice memento.

This is actually my 15th (or 16th??- lost track along the way) Half Marathon. I just hope it doesn't rain- did one last year in a downpour and it was tough.

We have reservations at both the HoJo and Park Vue for Fri/Sat/Sun nights- leaning towards PV and we're staying there for the first time in August so I'll decide after that- thinking the location and food offerings might be better but worried about noise outwise our room and softness of the beds at PV. PV is also cheaper- by about $33 total.

Is there a participant limit to the 5k run? I'm not a runner but I figure if i can start now I can be ready for sure. However I really cant afford the fee right now and want to wait it out a bit.

I'm in! I registered before the price increase and am excited! I'm bringing the whole family (DS is going to do the 1 mile kids run) and we'll be staying at Hojos. There is also a thread on the WISH board where people are discussing training, costumes, etc.

For the Disney 5k's, it's usually b/w 4-5,000 people, but w/ this one being an inagural race, it might be a little less. Just watch the website, b/c like the 1/2, when registration gets above 50%, they'll start updating how full the races are. The 5k usually fills slower than the 1/2's, but once the 1/2 fills up, the 5k will go faster b/c people like the DL races and medals.

I am signed up to do the 5K and so is my daughter. She is turning 13 on August 12 and we will be at Disneyland for her birthday. She knows we'll be at Disneyland for her bday but she doesn't know we'll be going back in January, just the two of us, for a few days and to do the 5K. I'm not sure where we'll stay yet. I'd love to stay on property but that will depend on airfare prices I guess.

Anyway, this will be our first girls trip & I'm so excited!
