Disneyland Tinker Bell (Tinkerbell) 1/2 Marathon ** Jan 27-29, 2012 ** Check-In

I too missed the sign up window. Totally bummed... Maybe I should look into that charity team option.

No idea where I'm staying yet. I'm coming down on my own, a friend is going with some of her friends though so I will know others there. I'm looking forward to this, my first 1/2 marathon. Years and years ago I did a 10k every year but that's been a long time. I've got my training schedule down now and working in a few 5ks, a 12k, and a Mud & Chocolate trail run in the process. The first 5k is next weekend with my kids so it will be more walking than jogging but that's OK - gotta get them started young. My son is 10 and by the time I was his age I'd already done 3 10ks, I had some great opportunities as a kid for running but let them go as I got older.

Thanks for starting this thread!

bekkijo:yay:
(not as hard as it looks - like Becky Jo)

I signed up for the Half shortly before it sold out and I am soooo excited! This will be my second Half Marathon (my first was about a month ago in San Francisco) and I cannot wait to run in Disneyland!

Yay!!! I signed up for the Tinkerbell yesterday. Since it was full, I am running for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The minimum required to raise is only $500 and being a psychiatric nurse who deals with suicidal patients all day long, this cause is near and dear to my heart. I've already got $55 towards my goal! So excited as this will be my first 1/2! I have never been a runner and only completed my first 5k's last year. I will be doing a 5k next month, then a 10k in November (a Turkey Trot). I'm using the Jeff Galloway training schedule on the Disney site so we'll see how that goes. I'm also doing the Insanity workouts (by the same company who produces P90X) and I think those will help my power and cardio.

I'm SO excited, can you tell?!?:banana::banana: Really looking forward to this "bucket list" item as I was the girl in high school whose coach would make her TRY to run a mile as a punishment (and I couldn't even do that!).

Still trying to decide where to stay as I would like to be somewhere close to the start, which would appear to be over by Katella and Disney Drive. Any suggestions??

I would suggest BW Stovall's if looking for a budget friendly option. I think the race will be a lot of fun!

Finally! All updated.

moonbill2002 -- I added Anaheim area maps that show the surrounding hotels to the 1st post. If you look at the course map you will be able to match up the hotels that are near the starting line. Also, there is a link in the 1st post to GET sports who is the travel partner for the event. They have negotiated rates at some area hotels, but I didn't think they were really that good of a deal.

The Jeff Galloway training starts soon! Oh, I think I will add that link to the first posting.

At least 3 of my closet girlfriends and myself will be running/quickly walking the 5k. We haven't signed up yet, since we are poor college aged people, but I'm keeping an eye on sign ups and saving up to make sure we don't miss it.

A few questions: Are the 5k medals the same the 1/2 marathon runners get?

Is the course about the same as the 5k they just had?

What sort of time limit is there? Keeping the pacing requirement in mind I'm thinking about 1 - 1.5 hours?

Thanks for any answers! I'm so excited for this chance to enjoy the inaugural race at night with my best friends.

I'll be doing the Tinker Bell half. I'm excited about participating in this inaugural race.

The 5k medals are different. They are a plastic/rubber cutout of the 5k logo.

The course map will probably be similar to the 5k maybe varied a little bit. The course map should be out soon. Somebody said that they are finalizing the course.

If you do a 16 minute mile (Disney's pace requirement) you will finish it before 1 hour. I walked the DL 5k at a slower pace and was not swept. I think what was key was that I was near the beginning of the last "corral" so there were a lot of people behind me when I started.

Thanks for the answers. The 1/2 medals are so neat, but I didn't really think the 5k runners would get the same ones.

I'm not too concerned about being swept, but I also don't want us to be the last ones finished. I'm sure we'll be stopping for all the photo ops.

So excited! Can't wait for this.

I'm already registered for the Half and I'm thinking about adding the 5K as well! If I do, I have a few friends who are going to sign up as well. It will be totally awesome! The big kicker for me is the price. It's awesome that for $99 it includes a twilight ticket, but with an AP I have absolutely no use for it and don't want to pay the extra money for it. Does anyone know if they have any small discount for it for AP holders and the like?

Ah I am bummed it is already sold out! After running the Disneyland 1/2, I thought it would be cool to be a legacy runner for the tinkerbell. Whoops.

Anyway, since I can't do the 1/2, I was looking into the Neverland 5k. We noticed that there is no stroller division and were just wondering if that will be set in stone or if in future years they will open up a stroller division of this race like the 5k during the Disneyland 1/2?

We hope to register for the 5k soon! Don't want to miss that one. :sad2:

It doesn’t look like there will be any discount. This is from the website: “No cash refunds, credits, or other consideration will be provided in lieu of a Twilight Ticket use.”

I know it's expensive but have you considered registering through a charity or the travel agency?

I don't know for certain but my guess for why there is no stroller division is because the race is at night.

No discounts for runners with AP's and make sure that the race dates are not block out dates, otherwise you will have to purchase block out tickets for time in the parks...(this happened to me at the half marathon)

I think instead of a Twilight Ticket that should have a viewing of World of Color before the race just for runners.

I have a PAP so I'm not concerned about the blockout days.

Figured I would ask anyway. It's a bummer. What on earth am I supposed to do with the ticket, lol. :confused3
