Disneyland Tinker Bell (Tinkerbell) 1/2 Marathon ** Jan 27-29, 2012 ** Check-In

For the Disney 5k's, it's usually b/w 4-5,000 people, but w/ this one being an inagural race, it might be a little less. Just watch the website, b/c like the 1/2, when registration gets above 50%, they'll start updating how full the races are. The 5k usually fills slower than the 1/2's, but once the 1/2 fills up, the 5k will go faster b/c people like the DL races and medals.
Thank you, thats good to know. I'll be sure to keep a look out and can hopefully register in time.

I am just about to sign up! Me and my friends did the half in September and I got my Coast to Coast

Okay, I think I have updated the intro to include everyone. If you are not listed, respond or PM and I will add you to the list.

Also, I wanted to link to the WISH board thread but can't find it. Can someone give me the link?

213 days of training still left! :thumbsup2

Thanks for highlighting my fundraiser challenge on your original post. :thumbsup2 I really hope I can raise lots of $$$ for Give Kids the World. I'm running no matter what, but if wings and a tutu can get more donations, I'm happy to do it. Thanks again. :goodvibes

I'm in for the 5k and 1/2! As of right now I'm staying at the Carousel Inn.

For those of you running the 5k and the Half, may I ask how often you run Marathons or Halfs? I am in training for this Half and I will be paying soon. I know I can run a 5k no problem because I do that now just to train about 3x a week, LOL. Not sure if attempting to do both would be way too ambitious for me. Huge difference between a Half and a 5k. Originally I wanted to run the September Half and I waited too long to pay. I didn't realize that they have limits on how many people can sign up for it. This will be my first time running in ANYTHING much less a half! If I can do it successfully, I'll be attempting to get the Coast to Coast by doing something in WDW. :yay:
We'll be staying at Hojos. :-)

Do any of you do the Run/Walk thing recommended by Jeff Galloway?

Congrats on your 1st race!! Doing both the 5k and the 1/2 shouldn't be to big to take on. As long as you train for the 1/2, you'll do well. The only races I do where I do the back to back running are the Disney races. The nice thing about the Tinkerbell race is that the 5k is Friday night so if you are worried or a little sore, you have Saturday to recover. My advice would be not to go all out and try to PR the 5k and run hard the 1/2, that might be a little ambitious. When I do the DL races and the year I did the Princess in WDW, the 5k was more of a fun run. I took in the sights and took my time. A lot of people walk the 5k and do it w/ kids, so you can walk the 5k to save your legs if you're worried about the 1/2. Don't know if you're a picture person, and a nighttime race will be a little more difficult, but you could use the 5k to take pictures that you think you might be taking during the 1/2. W/ the races at DL, the 5k and inside the park parts for the 1/2 are usually very similar and once you get out of the parks the only pictures you would be taking would be mile markers.

As for training, Jeff's plans are really popular as are John Bingham. Bingham is known for his Peguin Articles in Runner's World. He uses a similar type of method and plans. I actually picked up his Marathon book this weekend for something different and he has plans for walking, walk/run and run/walking for 1/2s. Online, coolrunning.com has various training programs as well. If you're close to a library, you could go one day and look at the various training books to give you an idea of what would work best for you. Sure a bookstore would work too, just realized that one! :rotfl2: I've kinda of complied a few different plans into 1 that I use throughout the year when I'm training.

The nice thing about the DL race is that the terrain is fairly flat. I was talking to someone on another thread who drove the Tinkerbell course and I think we figured out there were 6-7 "hills" that are due to underpasses or overpasses, so it's a great course for your 1st race.

Hope this helps out as you start running!

Hi! We will be there. Staying at the Grand Californian Villas. My husband Jon is actually the one running the 1/2 marathon but my friend Erin and I will be doing the 5k evening races.

Can't wait!

Are men allowed to compete in this race? I read on the race website that it is a "Women's focused Half Marathon." Would I look like a fool running in this race?

Absolutely men can run this race. I emailed them because my trainer, who is a man, is running it with me.They said they will have men's shirts too, btw.

Hello Everyone,

We might be doing the 5K (with my kids doing the kid races). We will know for sure by the 15th (next week). I am need to research a bit and see about hotels etc. If this happens we will cancel our Christmas trip for DW in December and do this.

Gotta start getting in shape :)

In the meantime, hopefully we will see you guys there! :confused3

Just signed up with my mom! I'm really excited! I've played sports my whole life but have never run a marathon before. I better start training! It shouldn't be too bad, 13 miles isn't THAT far and I feel pretty confident in being able to finish within the 3hr 30min time limit... I just hope I don't get side tracked if there are characters!

Hi everyone. I'll be updating the OP list soon. Things have been crazy with my job, but I have some time now so I can get to work!

I signed up and it said they didnt have men shirts...

Yeah, I sent the an email to double check (men's fit me better than women's) and they replied that the race shirts are only women's b/c it's a women's themed race. Hopefully there will be some men's fit shirts for sale at the expo.

According to the runDisney facebook page, the Tink Half has indeed filled up. But they also mentioned that charities may have spaces available.

I am soooo bummed that I missed the opportunity to run this Half Marathon. I volunteered this weekend at the marathon and had an awesome time. If anyone has decided against running... I would love to purchase your spot.
