I agree with Mike, Janet! And since I have the Sigma that I can sell, that helps with the offset of the cost. Plus I want another tripod, something smaller that I'll actually use. Mine is bulky and I rarely take it anywhere. I use it for taking my before/after pictures when I start a diet! Hahahahaha

Those really are great shots. Thanks for sharing! And no need to apologize. I'd rather get information from here, where I feel like I can trust someone rather than complete strangers, if you know what I mean?

I can't imagine you'd be disappointed in the Tokina. I loved that first one to bits and only longed for more range. It took owning the Canon (which is also well reviewed) to realize I valued the 2.8 more. And I didn't lose anything with all my buying/selling so it was fine in the end.

Here's the tripod I have and love.

Right now I'm waiting on my workhorse Canon 17-55 f/2.8 to return from its rather pricey spa break at the Canon Repair Center. It lived up to its reputation as a dust magnet. I'm going to have to break down and add a U/V filter when I get it back. Word is that the filter will greatly reduce the amount of dust that gets down inside. (The dust typically doesn't affect IQ but I just had so much it was starting to show up in some shots).

Here's my wide castle. The sigma is a fine lens for outside on nice days, but it just doesn't open wide enough for my liking. It would definitely not be able to get the great shots Janet got on IASW.

I already knew the Canon was sharp as a tack, but it appears that Sigma is as well. It really pained me greatly to sell that Canon. But for me anyway, getting the 2.8 back was worth it. And the Tokina is certainly no slouch in the sharpness department.

Speaking of early morning pictures... I have discovered that I am, for some reason, drawn to taking pictures of "empty paths" in the early morning hours at DLR. I never set out to take empty path pictures, but I realized that I have been taking more of them over time.

I absolutely love the early morning hours at DLR during the holiday season, when it is quiet and no one has really become fully awake yet. It's an invigorating, exhilarating, energizing time to roam around and breathe in the crisp air.

Thank you, Janet, Mike and Mikey, for the nice comments on the previous photo! I'm glad to have found a spot that is a bit less common in pictures.

Here is another installment from the unintentional "Early Morning Empty Path Series" of DLR photos. I don't set out to take these -- it's not my goal to capture all of the empty paths around DLR -- but they seem to keep creeping into my DLR repertoire. (I must be subconsciously channeling my inner Thomas Kinkade or something...)
