Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Wow. This just makes my day, it represents so much hope for the future and I needed that right now. I know it’ll be years, but still. Also I didn’t realize they had so much space left to work with.

“We’re not changing the size of the toast, we’re just spreading the peanut butter around,” according to a Disney official.

this cracked me up😆

I mean, you gotta hand it to Disney. It's a pretty shrewd business move to bring this discussion forward at this point in time. As if Anaheim will say no.

It kinda felt like a lot of fences were mended between DLR and Anaheim during this period. They seemed to be working very closely together on messaging and efforts. Maybe the time is right to strike iron on the third gate!

Yep, it's all parking lot at this point. Every time I am up in the Wheel of Death, I wistfully look over at that sea of parking spaces and dream about how much more that space could be. It's like they read my mind!

exactly! Someone on Twitter was wondering if this would happen because of WDW not really going forward with a lot of stuff. But they are in very different situations. Anaheim and Disney are going to want the revenue that comes from drawing people back to the parks. An expansion of DL will definitely do that.

Probably a bad time to (again) point out how bad OC Register is.

"The Immersive Theme Park westside expansion envisions a theme park on the Downtown Disney and Lilo and Stitch parking lots woven amid the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.

Disney officials described the west-side site bounded by Katella Avenue, Walnut Street, Magic Way and Disneyland Drive as more of a theme park expansion than a new 'third gate.'"

It's a theme park... but it's not a theme park. Literally in the next sentence. Ugh.

Well, that came out of nowhere. I would imagine Anaheim now realized the full impact Disneyland has on their economy. Smart of Disney for coming back to the table with this at this point.

Also, it doesn’t appear that they are looking for much from the city, only, essentially, to get out of the way.

Yep. They are just seeking zoning category changes, which should be pretty easy. OC has a LOT of "mixed use" zoning already and almost every new large project gets zoned with that designation, because it gives developers so much more flexibility to adapt to changing needs in the area.

Theyre not the only ones calling it a third gate despite I think it says somewhere (can’t find it right this second) on the Disney site it’s not.

It's still a theme park. Expansion or third gate, if there are rides and attractions in a themed land, its a theme park. OC register didn't say third gate right off the bat.

I didn't see that announcement coming, but it is welcome happy news!

And they will use develop the entry ways along Disneyland Dr (converted to pedestrian escalade into heart of Disney probably and the original plans for harbor drive expansion with this on the skyway.

It's interesting they aren't giving up on the ToyStory lot development either

Has Disney ever (to anyone's knowledge) ever considered a water park in Anaheim?
