Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Exactly @CrimsonRave, fly on into LAX and visit everything CA has to offer, we'll even let you dine indoors in some counties, but don't think about visiting any theme parks because you came from too far away.

In reality I think the distance restriction being "leaked" is what caused theme parks to ask Newsom to delay releasing guidelines. I just don't see how DLR can be profitable on what amounts to solely AP visitor.

I'm being optimistic. I just booked 7 nights at the Marriott Anaheim Theme Park for end of March (spring break). I figure once a re-opening is announced, bookings will go fast. If they don't open or the restrictions are too harsh I can always cancel.

Reservations have been cancelled through Halloween. I didnt expect that they would put up decorations for a week even if by some miracle they opened before Halloween, but this will be the first time in seven years I haven't been in the parks during the Halloween season at all. Sigh.

I wonder if they're allowed to open by late November if they would bother putting up the Haunted Mansion and Small World overlays.

It's not different. Plain and simple.

The only thing that is different is interest. No one is flying in from out of state to stay at the Tropicana and go to DTD. So even if it's possible, it's not happening in any appreciable numbers. Maybe over spring break and then into the summer people will fly in to visit the San Diego Zoo or go the beaches though. However, Newsom's made it really clear that he is not interested in attracting non-Californians to California at this point in time.

If the distance thing happens, I’m cancelling my mother/son Jan (was Sept) trip which was 2 days DL one day Universal. We will fly to FL and do two days at Universal there with no Disney. I want to go while he’s still super into Harry Potter. It stinks but it is what it is.

It would be interesting to know what the legality would be in attempting the travel restrictions thing. Especially since it seems to only involve Disneyland and the other theme parks. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I can imagine super Disney fans traveling on $39 flights from Arizona and Nevada maybe for a long weekend, but I have to imagine these numbers are miniscule compare to the number of out-of-staters (me, Tiki, Rob) who are not coming out for anything less than an actual theme park vacation. It's too far, too expensive, and requires too many precious PTO days.

We flew for Labor Day from Sac to SNA to do DTD for the weekend. Since my other timeshare was open we stayed there, when I was chatting with the staff when checking in and getting our pool reservations, they said there was a good mixture of locals and out-of-state people staying there even though the resort itself was only at half capacity. So there's a market for people who just want to vacation somewhere already, although that resort was probably also saw an uptick in out-of-state visitors because timeshares tend to be use-or-lose and attract the type of traveler that wants to be locked into going somewhere every year at minimum. I don't think I'd opt for another DTD trip, it was fun to do once, but I'll wait for either the VGC to open or the parks, whichever comes first when we have a reservation we'll be there.

I think Newsom limiting distance will cut down on some tourists flying in for the parks but I don’t see it as ‘impactful’ as he does. Lots of people go to CA for many other reasons besides Disney. It feels like a grasping at straws attempt at trying to please people who are against it reopening at all. It sounds good on paper right? ‘Newsom allows Disneyland to open with strict distance requirements- no tourists allowed’ etc.

Oddly my Oct 30 reservation disappeared today for VGC but my Oct 31 did not. I don't see it happening, I think they're just cancelling Sun-Sat but its still weird. I still haven't gotten any of the e-mails that other DVC'ers have gotten about cancelled reservations.
I went ahead and cancelled the Oct 31 myself since it would be pointless to stay one night. I never thought I would have this many points to have to use when I got DVC, I'm usually in perpetual borrow mode ... guess this means I'll have to try to book larger room in May in case they're open then.

So spoke with DVC CM - UYMarch - and bank time closing in end of the month. This means entire year lost on VGC - and especiallly those who banked into the year with no option to use whatsoever to date only 63 points at risk, but still enough. So made two dates in Jan for them to burn through -- hopefully at least hotel open and enjoy a day with DTD; but would really love to experience something by then. anything.

If DL opens by Thanksgiving, we plan to go Fri-Mon. We have signature APs so no blackout dates then. I imagine there will be a reservation system for all to get into the parks? Do passholders have an advantage here? Are guests of the resort hotels guaranteed a reservation for park admittance? I appreciate some guidance!

May I tell you that your June 2021 Check In Thread is a shining light for me on the main board? It is currently the ONLY check in thread we have for next year (!) -- and I don't think we've ever gone this late in the year without at least a handful of check in threads (if not more) for the following year. Your persevering hope gives me hope. Thank you!

It's not different. Plain and simple.

Not only is it not different, it has been going on since July 9th with no major outbreaks traced back to DTD that we know of since that reopening. I'm not sure why that never gets mentioned in any of the news conferences or Q&A sessions.

That is something to definitely note! Shows that Disneyland knows what they are doing.
