Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Awesome, thanks! I never know what news outlet to look at since I don’t live out there :)
Look at the sources other posters are using regularly here. Make note of them if necessary -- it can be helpful! If those news sites are getting through the DIS filter every time, then they are legit and should be reliable. If you are not sure about a news source, whether it be a website or a tweet, type the address in a post and hit "Preview." If the address comes up *******, then it is banned here. So don't post it.

Random question that is off topic, but on topic. This weekend I went to Live oak canyon farm. They had fair-type rides, pony rides, and their train running. Does anyone know how they are able to operate, but say a typical fair, or small theme park with rides can’t? Its in San Bernardino county which is purple...

It is not the rides that make Theme Parks, fairs, etc not okay right now it is the amount of people that will come to those types of places.

If DL opens by Thanksgiving, we plan to go Fri-Mon. We have signature APs so no blackout dates then. I imagine there will be a reservation system for all to get into the parks? Do passholders have an advantage here? Are guests of the resort hotels guaranteed a reservation for park admittance? I appreciate some guidance!

Winds in the east, mist coming in, / Like somethin' is brewin' and bout to begin. / Can't put me finger on what lies in store, / But I fear what's to happen all happened before.

something definitely going on, hopefully an announcement soon. I've finally had to let go of a 2020 California trip, my airline just cancelled November flights. Ive now rebooked for January 2021, :(

So this is what we are all here waiting to for. As of right now.... Nothing is open.

The big questions... if guidelines state a mileage distance that changes everything. Hotels might decide to cancel and that would mean only AP and ticket purchases.

If no mileage distance, I would imagine it runs like WDW did. All onsite hotel guest would be guaranteed a reservation followed by a specific number of spots for AP and Ticket Holders.

This is something we don't know yet. You may not be blacked out, but if only 5,000 AP's can reserve, it kind of is a blackout.

So.... seeing how this is a speculation thread.... let's speculate!

What we have heard is that people from the governors office will be going to Disneyland, Universal, and Santa Monica Pier. I would image this would have to be today because he has his press conference tomorrow. Seems like discussion are moving in some direction now. Just wondering, with a crystal ball... what does everyone else think?

Could we actually see some guidelines Friday/Early next week?

Do we think it is possible for Orange County to be orange during November? Or do you think that the WDW visit might change the tier system for parks?

Let's speculate together!

My guess at this point is we’ll see guidelines soon but he’ll apply that distance requirement at least until the end of flu season. Then Disneyland can open to all guests once we’re past that point OR based on some type of case data.

I do think the restriction is going to be orange since that’s what the county’s recommendation is- I don’t see him being less strict than that.

Newsom and Dr. Gally have both mentioned worries about travelers visiting, flu season, and the new comments on gathering restrictions ahead of holidays. I don’t see that attitude doing a complete 180 just yet. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I’m assuming it’s allowed. It’s been open for a few weeks and it’s advertised. I didn’t know if there was some sort of technicality that allows them to operate but doesn’t allow theme parks to operate. I’m wondering if they fall under outdoor entertainment 🤔 All of these rules and guidelines confuse me honestly lol

They are probably doing so in violation of the rules. Family fun centers are allowed to reopen, but only for things like go carts and mini golf. Anything considered an amusement park attraction is not allowed to open.

Well, WDW has out of town visitors and they have been doing well. I'm from out of town and perfectly capable of being safe just like everyone else. Maybe even a little safer because we want everything to go well for us and everyone else. (Not that folks from in town wouldn't be as safe.) :) I still don't think Disneyland would want to open with the travel restriction in place. It seems like California is assuming that they are the only truly safe place in the whole nation and that if anyone came from out of state they are probably "tainted" in some way. We aren't. And, we are capable of traveling safely as well. Anyhoo, sorry about the rant. Also, I wonder if they've already been to Disneyland and Universal? They were sneaky enough to go to WDW without anyone knowing. :wave2: Thanks for letting me vent a little.

In my opinion I feel like the distance thing wouldn’t sit too well with theme parks given the fact that there are NO travel restrictions for this state. Yes theme parks bring in thousands of people, but those people will be making reservations based off of capped attendance. It won’t be just a free for all.

If they do put distance restrictions, maybe they could argue that it can be in place for the stricter tiers (purple and red). But once the counties are in orange and yellow, no distance restrictions...

I am crossing my fingers they can open for the holidays!

So I am kind of in the same boat about the distance. If anything I feel like this would be the biggest fight for Disney and Universal. If they get the tier moved to Orange I think that totally aligns with them. As far as distance, that is going to kill all the reservations that they currently have. To them that is money in the bank, they can't spend... and employees they don't need if the resorts can be filled.

I ultimately think this comes down to how it's handled from the airport to resorts. If they can control everything they need to, no reason why they can't allow it. Again if they were opening at 50% that one would be one thing, but at 25% this should absolutely be doable.

The distance restriction would be outrageous and I hope they can fight it. But I also wonder how realistic of a fight they have these days (without going to court and I get the impression they don't want to do that) since less than two weeks ago everything got tabled so suddenly we all wondered if we'd even seen them open in 2020... I'm just starting to feel like Disney should take what they can get to open and push for more later.

What makes a distance restriction on theme parks even more ridiculous is that there are no travel restrictions for any other sector. Even CA residents can go just about anywhere they want (read as out of state theme parks) since the state only has a recommendation to limit travel.

I also think Anaheim wouldn't be happy with a distance restriction as they really want the tourism (and tax) $$ all the hotels near DLR bring the city.
