Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Oh my god this guy, he never just says something clearly. Can someone translate what in the world he just said?

The only real interesting thing there was that some counties and extra measures they take are being taken into account when they change tier.

He mentioned Dr. Ghaly's update tomorrow about tiers in that long, convoluted response. But yeah, there was major shade to Disney before that. About not prioritizing one county, etc.

Oh my god this guy, he never just says something clearly. Can someone translate what in the world he just said?

“making sure that we’re doing justice to our diverse communities.”

“You’ll hear tomorrow….Dr Ghaly…the equity measure may help advance reopening in some states.”

“In fact, it may advantage an economic reopening.”

The governor hopped onto a small item of the reporter's larger question and hyperfocused on that instead of answering when will CA release theme park reopening guidelines. So he didn't answer the question.

So I still have 45 days before we go to Disneyland.... not feeling confident at this point. Unless they say they can open in orange instead of yellow.... but the talks with the parks and CAPA (I think), will really affect how this will go.

Question: I have two questions. What's the latest with regards to reopening Disneyland and other theme parks. And second, when it relates to this new equity metric, some county officials have voiced some concern that this metric may hold them back from reopening business and schools at a time when reopening may bring an economic boost to their communities. So I'm curious why your administration is introducing this metric at this time and are you concerned at all it could slow economic recovery?

Answer: Well we introduced the construct when we introduced the tiered status. In fact, it was part of the original presentation, the original announcement. So it's not particularly new. So, I'll just say this. You believe in growth and you don't believe in inclusion, then we're going to leave a lot of people behind. And one of the things we value as a state is inclusion. and we believe that we're all better off when we're all better off. Leaving communities behind in order to game your testing and your case rates, I don't think is right. And so our approach is about making sure that we are doing justice to our diverse communities. And that we're not just gaming the system to paint a much more rosy picture that may be for some but not all members of a community, particularly a specific county.

As it relates to your specific frame, that some counties are concerned, you'll hear tomorrow Dr Ghaly will come out with the new updates on the tiered status and the movement and our broad strokes belief looks to be in this frame. Meaning, the equity measure, may interestingly, may help advance the cause of reopening in some stakes as some counties may be doing more in that respect and that's being counted into their capacity to move more expeditiously to move through the tier. So, in fact, it may be something that advantages an economic opening but does so in a way that brings more people to light and more inclusion to bear. And so we believe in that as a core value and we believe that framework is an appropriate one.

Thank you for this!

And wow, no wonder my head was spinning trying to understand what in the world he was saying. That’s a pretty wild ride of unnecessary verbs and adjectives.

Those were a lot of words that resulted in not really saying anything. I wish they would just be more clear and concise and say something like "When the state overall reaches color X, then theme parks can reopen under this newly published set of operating guidelines, they can reopen at __% capacity" or "When the county that the theme park is in reaches color X and does A, B, and C, then they can reopen at __% capacity." All of the double talk is confusing.

This is one way to ask the question. The way I would have asked, however, would have been "Dude. Disneyland?" A little more direct and to the point, I think.
