Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Answering for my daughter, who will probably guide the ride selection, hahah:

DL: Alice in Wonderland, HMH (if available)
DCA: Soarin'

Random thought time
In 2005, the California Supreme Court ruled that Disneyland is a "common carrier" and that its rides (specifically, Indiana Jones) are in the same class of transportation as city buses, trains, and airplanes. This originally dealt a blow to Disney as they argued they were not common carriers in the traditional sense and thus not subject to the higher duty of care imposed on common carriers.

IMO - that ruling means Disneyland can legally open its rides today. Obviously, there are other considerations (PR, threat of lawsuits, employee pushback, liability, optics, etc...), but if we hold to that ruling, Disneyland has the absolute right to operate rides as a common carrier.

The case was GOMEZ v. The Walt Disney Company et al., and it stemmed from the untimely death of Cristina Moreno in 2000 of a subarachnoid hemorrhage subsequent to riding the Indiana Jones ride at DL.

ETA: Disney's legal ability to open just might stem from English Common Law, specifically a 1680 court ruling regarding a horse. Man, I'm in the weeds here, hahah.

yea, WDW trip is looking damn good now LOL. If CA reopening moves like a snail, then i rather throw my money over to FL & boost their economy (hate to say it!). Only thing holding me back from a WDW trip is that they're not allowing new tix sales (esp since I can get military tix). DLR is simply just closer (i'm in Norcal) & my labor day wknd trip ain't happening...perhaps, i'll look into hotels for a Nov 2020 bday DLR trip (fingers crossed).

as for rides: ANY ride at either park..even the BENCH with dis food & people watching is sufficient for me  (all time fave is Indy tho)

This makes me miss early mornings in DLR. When Matterhorn is Single Rider walk on, cool crispness to the air...
Agree 100%. I’ve always felt that Sunday mornings at DL between rope drop (usually 8:00) and about 10:30 is the golden time for the park. Crowds are usually light, I like the way the sun hits the pavement and the whole day still lies ahead of me. Can’t wait to get back to that... although I doubt we’ll see the return of rope drop until perhaps May (presuming a vaccine is then widely used).

Matterhorn is the chiropractor lol

Wasn't there something about Big Thunder Mountain and its ability to dislodge kidney stones?

See... not only can Disneyland open as a common carrier, it's also a major medical center! Need your back adjusted -- Matterhorn; need your kidney stones removed -- Big Thunder; bradycardia (low heart rate) -- ROTR; hypothermia -- Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

(presuming a vaccine is then widely used).

I read some really bad news regarding the vaccines today -- the mRNA vaccines need to be kept at -4 deg F (Moderna) and -94 deg F (Pfizer), this is going to be a MAJOR issue going forward, most of these vaccines cannot just be stocked in a normal freezer, much less shipped via standard cold-chain logistics vehicles.

Ugh. I really do think DL/all of us will have to adapt to no vaccine DL for quite a bit longer. Waiting for it isn't going to be feasible (yet).

WDW is admittedly it's own roller coaster.

Just yesterday my Nov Poly stay got killed (they moved me price protected to GF when I called). A few hours after the Poly news broke a blogger I trust started hinting CSR (part of my split stay) might not open and I just about lost my you know what. He was proven wrong but that was a stressful hour. I just got the guts up to book this WDW trip (had Mar and Jun cancelled on me) like 10 days ago lol.

My first ride is usually Peter Pan. As a teen it was Matterhorn.
DCA is Toy Story.

I’m starting to become extremely frustrated. I mean if Newsom has told them “too bad, so sad” they need to admit it.
My guess is they are still discussing things. Theme Parks are a complicated mix of rides, restaurants, entertainment and retail. Even if Newsom said Theme Parks can open in Orange there is no way to know when that will occur. I guess it at least it gives people something to look to. I also wonder if Disneyland will wait until the county hits the metrics / stage before they announce an opening date. Right now it is a moving target. With the very real possibility that they open and have to close a few weeks later.
