Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I agree; I actually told my husband this morning that the last-minute notice might be a feature, not a bug, intended to depress demand.

That said, if Disney is serious about wanting to discourage out-of-state travelers, then they need to do something about previously purchased multi-day tickets, which expire in January. It is not those ticket holders' fault that the tickets were not used this summer, and they are literally the only class of pass/ticket holders that have not even been mentioned by Disney in all their refund and expiration accommodation offers. Yes, the tickets hold their value, and yes, they can be applied to new tickets in the future, but at higher cost--and potentially a much higher cost. It's really quite unfair for Disney to say, we closed down the parks for three months, then purposefully created rules making it really hard for you to come at all once it reopened, and we compensated literally every other class of guest, but your tickets are expiring and now you get to pay an extra $50 per head or whatever we decide if you come back in the future.
Amen & Amen🙏

Will the pools be open at DGC Villas? Will park hopping, fast pass, max pass still be available? Will those with reservations at DGC Villas be allowed to purchase park tickets and make reservations in the parks? So many questions. Have an August reservation that I obviously would want to cancel if the pools are not open or we cannot get into the parks.

Since there are no official answers yet (!) to all your questions, this thread will at least provide you with some discussion and speculative answers. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Official Reopening Superthread. When Disney makes any official announcements, they will be posted there!

Pools have announced to be open at the WDW DVCs and have opened at HHI and VB as those resorts reopened this morning. Nothing has been announced for VGC that I've seen, but Disney seems to want to if they are allowed. Nothing has been announced to your other questions either.

Disney has closed some stores in Disney Springs. The closures range from 3 - 7 days.

CMs are speculating that contact tracers traced COVID positive guests to those specific stores and now they’ve been closed for deep cleaning and/or time for any possible virus to no longer be viable.

The other guess is COVID positive CMs were in each of those shops. Either way, be aware DL will probably be following the same procedures for DTD and park shops.

I hear you, the travel planning stress goes up every day flight prices increase. But, I could see how that might be what they are hoping, to discourage people from travelling far distances. Most cities/counties in Northern California (where we are) are still asking people not to leave their county or region. Our local lake is only allowing people with proof of local residence to enter the gate. It just makes the potential for virus spread, and subsequent tracking, a lot trickier if that contact map extends to other parts of the country/world.
Off topic but apparently not many listen since our Oregon State Parks are full of California license plates.

And possibly for the parks themselves....

Yeah my friend was wondering if they would close the parks if they found out someone tested positive. I know some people have said that it's impossible to trace illnesses back to the park, but since this particular virus they are doing tracers, you will be able to see...

I'm not sure where the best place to ask this is, but has anyone received an email about any of this yet? The last passholder info email I got was April 21st.

It might not be possible to prove that someone contracted COVID at the park, but it certainly would be possible to prove that someone who tested positive for COVID was recently at the park. At that point, there is actual knowledge that other people/places within the park were exposed, regardless of where COVID-positive person originally contracted it.

I don't know guys. This morning I woke up 110% in. But little stuff like this just makes me question how stupid, exactly, I am by trying to make this trip happen.

Ok folks. Any advice for us? We have a deposit for a package in October. When do you think we need to pay in full in order to be able to make our park reservations?

Also replying to myself with the thought that contract tracing may be an argument against allowing park hopping. For example, if they know Visitor A tested positive for COVID on Wednesday, and spent Monday at DCA, then they would only have to close DCA for 72 hours and not DL. This is in NO WAY a guarantee that Visitor A did not visit DCA on Monday and DL on Tuesday, but it's something.

Disney! Listen up! We're going to need some actual info over here pretty darn soon, or there's going to be a whole message board's worth of Type As spontaneously combusting from the effort of trying to plan with no plans. Now you wouldn't want that, would you?!

I don’t think paying in full will help. I called in for our Costco Travel package and the CM made it clear we would be getting our tickets upon check-in. The only thing we can hope for is that the park reservations system makes allowances for guests in this situation. It would not look good for travel packages to be sold with tickets you can’t use.

Why would they need to close a whole theme park because of one Covid positive?

That's who our package is through as well but I swear someone else posted that people would be getting tickets delivered electronically so they could make their reservations. I am not flying to CA and paying all this to hope we can get into the parks.

I don't know what they would do. I'm just saying it's possible. It's not just one COVID positive. It's one COVID positive who went on two dozen rides, ate at three restaurants, used six bathrooms, and browed through ten shops. I have no clue how Disney would handle that.

I don't think it's feasible to just close the park because an infected person went through there. This wasn't done with measles, and by the time a test is positive, so many days would have passed that any theoretical surface virus this person shed would be long gone (and an entirely new set of park goers would be in the park).

Plus, statistically speaking, if there are 20,000 people roaming the parks and even if you get down to 1% of them being asymptomatic positive, there's 200 people seeding virus all over the place. Lovely thought, huh?

I woke up today in a funk... yesterday I was, like you, 120% all-in and excited, today a bit of a different story. I wrote out all upcoming travel to DL & DVC bookings, and the $ and point consequences of cancellation. Ugh.

We were speculating on the reservation system last night and I think that DLR will email guests with onsite reservations a link or request the dates you want to reserve.
I also think they will allow park hopping but will have caps on how many can be in each park so if you are in DCA and want to go to DL you may not be able to get in if they are at their max capacity just like say during the crazy times around Christmas

I think folks have to assume that on every single day someone (or many someones) among all those people in the park is positive for COVID. If one is not willing to go under that assumption, it's better not to go. And if a remedy for having a visitor who later tests positive is that Disney has to close the entire park, DLR might as well not open at all.

Those who booked packages through Get Away Today are required to pay the ticket portion of their packages by Jun 19.
