Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

So going back to capacity.... If DLH is closed for now (Won't affect me cause they will be open in October) that cuts half the on-site park guests out. That's so much easier to guarantee entry now. The only need to guarantee around 7,000!

lol they need to guarantee ZERO from 7/17-7/23!

The thing is, without DLH you are looking at 1200ish rooms, DLH adds about 1000. WDW has more than 30,000 rooms. That’s 7500 rooms per park, let’s say 4 people per room, that’s 30,000 people per park. Using the same math and all 3 hotels, 4,400 guests for each CA park. DL can easily guarantee access to hotel guests where WDW can’t- even more so with DLH closed.

totally agree on that.

However disney IT is making a new system to handle park reservations. I doubt they are going to make two different apps for CA and FL. I think whatever the new system is is going to be rolled out to both. Some details may be different between the two but I don't think we are going to see a maxpass system in CA and fastpass in FL type situation. I think both are going to be under the same system. I just don't see them developing two new system.

Just a guess and if I'm wrong fI'll eat my crow.

I would recommend booking on property hotels if you’re out of state. It’s what I’ve done as the most likely situation to cover my butt. Disney hotels are fully refundable up to 4 days before arrival, for everyone but the “opening week guys” that should be plenty of time for Disney to announce how they’re handling reservations for park access. Think for a moment though, if you were a corporation would you turn away $2,000 + likely higher food and beverage sales from an out of state visitor that needs to book four nights at your hotel just to be “fair” and let someone that had a 75 minute drive get into the parks? There is a likely chance that the local residents might not blow $100 for dinner in the park for two or three people and instead just get a small snack (corn dog or pretzel) and just leave a bit early to get dinner somewhere cheaper on the way home.

I think on property hotel reservations will be the gateway in since it’s a huge revenue driver for Disney, don’t hold off on booking until everything has been announced. They could close bookings at any time or fill up if semi-locals (think 2 hour drive etc) decides its worth a two night stay to have a good weekend, etc.

Look to when Galaxy’s Edge opened and on property guest had guaranteed access...
I booked PPH last night on this theory. I must have done did lost my mind--I've never paid $450 for a hotel room before! I have 5-day tickets I purchased way back in 2019... now I have a 6-day resort stay to go with it. Selfishly, but also practically, I expect that Disney will find a way to accommodate its on-site guests. If we can't use our 5-day tickets all in a row, we will cancel our hotel reservation because we are coming from out of state and it's either a 5-day trip or no trip at all. And that room alone was over $3,000.

This is funny to me!

- Book Art of Animation for 5 (Back in 2017) at around $625 a night for 8 Nights, whole trip was around $18,000
- Booked Boardwalk for 4 (Back in January of 2019) for around $550 a night for 8 Nights, whole trip was around $12,000
- Booked Camelot for 4 (Back in September 2019) for around $129 a night for 3 nights, whole trip was $3,500

Disneyland by far is WAY Way Cheaper.

1. We have a stay booked at the DLH over Labor Day weekend. If it’s still closed, will they move us to GCH? Or just cancel us? I have zero interest in staying at PPH, so hopefully they don’t move us there.

2. I’ve seen the speculation about APs.... ours expire June 27, so since DLR is opening July 17, we are getting about 4 months added on to our expiration date. But no one knows if those extra months will start during the reservation system or once park admission is back to “normal”?

Question, I've seen random comments on social media saying that CM's have not been contacted, even though they have an opening date. Is there a schedule system for DL CM's that can be watched if they start getting scheduled? Especially considering DTD opens in just under a month. Over at the WDW boards people would watch for the schedule to get released to give a hint at when they would be opening.
WDW CMs were notified after FL okayed the reopening. CM Schedules are on the TPAS board because of access to the internal CM Hub which is only for CMs.

WDW CMs are coming back in waves over a multi-week timeframe to be trained and ready for the DVC openings and then the parks and whichever resorts may open.

The CMs who work in DTD will probably get scheduled up to 2 weeks prior to DTD opening. And there will be waves of park CMs, who want to return, being trained prior to any possible soft openings while housekeeping CMs get trained for resorts.

I certainly believe that, but I don't know that the proper comparison is between WDW and DL hotel rates. Rather, would DL prefer to have someone paying $3,000 to stay in its hotel (plus food purchases, etc.) during that week, or a series of 5 day-guests not paying for lodging and three squares a day?

I could be completely off base here, and as @AndrewC said, it was a no-lose proposition. If DL ultimately does not grant any reservation-making preference for on-site guests, we will merely cancel the reservation and move on. My Southwest travel funds are good for two years... so we can wait.

$625/night for AoA? ***? I normally do pop right across the lake for about $150/night.

Boardwalk at $550 sounds about right.

I do two WDW trips a year at decent rates at value resorts.

Question : if we had a rack rate reservation during the closure that will now be canceled will we get any sort of discount on the future booking? Or was there only an extension of whatever promo others were booked under?

Since Disney World is not opening all of their resorts, they are moving reservations to the hotels that are open. I will be fine for them to upgrade my DLH to the GCH! Though I wonder if they’ll give money back if you’re downgraded to PPH?

This is what I’m concerned about.... we have a trip to the DLH booked for Labor Day weekend. We were originally booked in April, and booked the DLH under their rebooking deal. I find it very strange that they offered a discount for people that had to rebook for only the GCH and the DLH, and now the DLH isn’t even open. I’m not going to be happy if we get downgraded to PPH. In fact, we won’t go. Staying on Disney property, even with a discount, is a huge splurge for our family, and it’s GCH or DLH or bust. 🤣

Not to burst any bubbles but this is still only a PROPOSAL not an official announcement that it WILL be happening.

Not that I have any doubts that it will happen.

So for Art of Animation our son was 4 at the time and we really wanted the suite, was just so much easier having the grandparents with us that way.

My wife was in the college program the Boardwalk, it's her love, and after staying at AoA and the Boardwalk I may never look back. The convince for us at a deluxe far out ways the price we would save for a value.

We tend to go for the holidays (November, December) due to my wife being in education. That means prices will all be high, but we love staying in nice places!

it’s not enough, I want more, I want it all! 😂

I want AP reservation details, park reservation details, food ordering procedures, haunted mansion refurb info, HM holiday overlay info, etc... haha

I will cry if there’s no HM overlay this year, and so will my kids. And my mom. She is planning a trip out here just to show my dad HM holiday. 🤣 My little one loves Jack and Sally so much, and it will be a huge disappointment for us if they don’t do it. Especially since we are probably moving back to Texas next spring, and this will be our last holiday season as locals. 😭😭😭😭😭

I watched a special on this, they can put it all up in almost a day, and take it down in a couple. I think this is super easy for them to do. Not a big concern.

My concern is will both parks be decorated for the holidays? We have always wanted to go to DL for the holidays, that would be heartbreaking for us....

Gotcha. I live driving distance to WDW (6-7 hours) and when I go I try to keep costs down with PoP or all starts resorrs (Pop Now due to skyliner) and the like. You can do a WDW trip without breaking the bank. When I used to go to DLR for rundisney I was able to do it for decnt rates too, Both can be done on a budget if you plan accordingly.

'REally surprised they pushed for the 17th. But hey congrats to everyone who got it right! :)
Also good to see that for that first week, they have the hotels still closed so those with the money to spend on a Disney hotel will not have a headstart on tickets, as that first week will be coveted.
Now it's to see how many people will get access per day. My guess is 10 - 20K people.

I've only visited Disneyland Anaheim once in low season and back then I already thought the park was crowded due to the limited space they have. This could cause a problem, when extending queues. What we saw in the Netherlands in our biggest park is that queues had to be extended to backstage parking lots etc. to both accommodate the amount of guests at popular rides and to adhere to the 6ft distance required. I can imagine this is going to be worse in Anaheim.
Also wonder what they will do with bathrooms, as we saw here, the queues for the bathrooms got long as they only let families in one at a time. They solved it with extra portable toilets (the deluxe ones), but I cannot see Disney going for this option.

I think that was the same when WDW announced their opening. People were worried that it wouldn't get approved b/c Sea World's got approved within 24 hours of it being proposed. But I'm assuming he did as the dates for their opening haven't changed. So it should get approved.
