Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Micechat, which is very a reliable source says the following:

Disney has said the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen at a later date. Meanwhile, Disney is currently in the process of renewing contracts with resort-area Good Neighbor Hotels. Disney began sending out new contracts last week. Historically, Disney’s Good Neighbor Hotels have been locations where official Disneyland Resort theme park tickets could be purchased. While this is expected to remain the case, it’s unclear how this service will function with the theme parks now requiring reservations. But we would hope that booking a Disneyland or Good Neighbor Hotel would also come with some sort of reservation advantage. Of course, we’ll keep you updated on this as more information becomes available.

Not sure if posting links to third-party sellers is kosher, so I won't.

But I found one of the sites being talking about.

No parkhoppers, just 2- and 3-day one-park passes. Their non-discounted prices:

2-Day One-Park
Adult: $235
Child: $220

3-Day One-Park
Adult: $310
Child: $290

I can't tell if this is real or if they're just anticipating things. (You can't actually buy anything.)

Looks about the same prices as 1-park tickets were before so that's a good sign if this info is true. Although I know some would say it's highway robbery to charge the same for less experience but I'd be glad to just not see any increases.

I think a lot will depend on whether they sell the annual passes right now or not. Like, how much am I willing to pay in day tickets soon after opening to participate in the "working the kinks out phase?"

I'm not really sure.

This is what I am trying to figure out. I have VGC booked for 7/14-7/18. If I can only get a 3 day ticket max, I will drop at least 1 night and not have to use as much PTO. But if passes are available by then, I would go with that sort of option.

And then I am kind of stuck on if I want to buy a 2 or 3 day (or even a 1 day) ticket to go once or twice sooner. That is a lot to spend. But the heart wants to go so badly! After all, my DVC Gold Annual pass renewal was only $650 and to go twice for 3 days will be almost the same price. Kind of appeals to my cheap side!

Ugh - decisions decisions.

I want to say that is inline with the park prices being offered at WDW. I was expecting between $99 and $125 for tickets per day.

Um... no 🤷‍♀️. But they did sell 4 and 5 day tickets. Wasn't even trying to say a thing about APs. 😕Just relaying info that he heard. Sorry to offend. I’ll keep the info to myself from now on. Have a great day.

You didn't offend me. Not sure what made you think that. I was just wondering if this might mean there won't be AP sales yet. I was honestly asking if 3rd party sellers ever sold APs.

Interesting that there is no single day option (allegedly). Also I wonder if the multi day options have an expanded return window or if it’s the same 13 day limit.

Really wish I had a timeline for APs to return. If we are talking about waiting another month or two I’ll just wait it out and slum it at Knotts. If we are talking about end of the year then we’ll have to bite the bullet on tickets.

Well, they never sold annual passes via third party sellers, did they?

Not recently that I'm aware of, but I swear I remember hearing Costco or Sam's Club might have awhile ago? And maybe AAA? But it was quite some time ago and I believe only at SoCal locations. Take this memory of something I think I read with a huge helping of salt because I have no idea for sure and I did not personally see it happen.

Definitely not a recent practice, that's for sure.

I think most of the third party sites only sold 2- to 5-day tickets, so the absence there might just be that.

From the ticket info:
"Tickets expire 13 days after first use or January 12, 2022, whichever occurs first."

Part of why I'm wondering about this - I think that's the same terms that other sites have had for a while, so I'm not sure if this is actually brand new info connected to the reopening.

Honestly I don't expect AP (or whatever form the new membership program takes) sales to begin for months from now. I wouldn't even be surprised if they don't come back this calendar year.

I believe that demand far outstrips capacity allowances for the time being so Disney doesn't need to offer an AP/membership program at least through summer and they will want to take their time to figure out how to maximize profits and manage whatever the new plan is. I wouldn't mind being wrong about this of course because once I am vaccinated Disney is the first place I would love to go just like all the rest of us Disboards fans, and it would be great if I could go when I want, how I want without hassle or outsized expense. Sadly I don't think it's going to work like that again for a while though.

I know they used a long while ago sell the aps at the grocery stores. I bought one this way for a friend once. But I have not seen those sold in grocery stores is a really long time.

This is where I'm at. I'm not in a rush to return on day 1. I'll wait until they announce the new AP info. If the new AP program is available right away, I'll sign up and start going. Or, if it's going to be a long time before the new AP program starts, then I'll look into doing a couple day visit with a hotel stay soon, but not necessarily opening day.

I really hope they are transparent with when they plan to roll out the new annual pass program so we can make an informed decision.

Like, if they said "We plan to begin sales of our new membership offering in the coming months" that's not good enough. They need to give a firm date. Otherwise they might find themselves in a situation where locals, especially, don't want to purchase day tickets because what if Disney decides to start selling passes right after you buy a multi day ticket? Then they will have to listen to the complaints. Personally, if that happened to me, I'd be upset of they didn't allow the ticket to go towards the pass price (assuming it hadn't yet been used or fully used).

Given what happened with WDW, I would expect the same cost for less experience, so I agree with you. I'm curious to know what they do with park hours. DLR always had longer hours than WDW to begin with. If they're doing some 10am to 6pm thing, it'll be hard for me to swallow over $100 per day.

I agree. The way I figure it is, I'm going to sign up for the new Disney AP program when it's announced, whatever it is. It's going to happen regardless. So, in the meantime, instead of also spending the cost of a multi-day to DL for just a few days, I might as well spend that money to also get a season pass to Knott's or Universal. That way, I don't run the risk of buying a regular DL ticket and then having to turn around and buy an AP, plus I get the bonus of having another park to visit if it's tough to get into DL with the reservation system.

My guess is that they don't know yet when they will offer it. I suspect they will want to see how single tickets are doing during the reduced capacity. So I don't think they will announce a date for a while. That said, I would hope that you could apply your day tickets to the price of an AP. My guess is that they would do this since they have done it in the past.

I don't think we are going to get a firm date at this time, or in the first couple months. We already know they plan to offer something, they told us that. But I think the "membership" may be on hold at least til they can get to 50-75% capacity minimum.

I don't know. I think it's pretty telling that the Legacy Passholder discount barcodes expire April 30. I mean, I know they technically said they would automatically be extended "if necessary" but I took that more to mean "if OC case numbers don't allow us to open as scheduled on April 30."

My DH is seeing chatter on Twitter that Disney is prepping third party sellers about tickets. Rumor is only 2-3 day tickets. No info about reservation system yet. Again, rumors. But exciting nonetheless!
Thanks for the info! I wonder what this means for already purchased 5 day hoppers. I won’t be surprised if the hopper option is gone, but I’ll be sad if we can’t use all 5 days. There is no way we can make it back another time for the last 2 days in the time allotted (assuming that stays the same).

I also want to adjust our hotel if we don’t need it as long.
