Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Well, they never sold annual passes via third party sellers, did they?
Not recently that I'm aware of, but I swear I remember hearing Costco or Sam's Club might have awhile ago? And maybe AAA?...
AAA did sell vouchers for APs. We used to buy ours there. I think the last time we were able to do that was the year the AP program eliminated the Premium level. We used our Premium vouchers to renew at the Signature + level.

They were sold at AAA a few years back, at the grocery store and the Disney stores, and a few online sites too. I thought Getaway Today had them at one time. And I know a certain educator credit union sold them online.

I don't know. I think it's pretty telling that the Legacy Passholder discount barcodes expire April 30. I mean, I know they technically said they would automatically be extended "if necessary" but I took that more to mean "if OC case numbers don't allow us to open as scheduled on April 30."
I don't think you can necessarily read it to say that there's a likelihood one way or the other.

From a legalese standpoint, it's a safe bit of writing - it could be 90% or 10% likely to be extended based on that statement. It's the safest minimum answer. (For example, you wouldn't want to say that it expires May 31st if there was a 10% chance that you could do away with it on May 1st. No harm in starting with April 30th and waiting to see how it plays out.)

I think it's written that way specifically so that they can renew with each extension of the schedule. I think they'll keep renewing it until they're officially ready to launch the new Memberships.

Perhaps. I just found it interesting that is also the same day they are opening.

To me, the potential extension seems like an attempt to bridge the gap between now and when passholders can finally get into the parks via reservations. Or, it is a goodwill gesture that allows them to extend discounts on property until they can offer new passes. I mean, being honest, needing to buy day tickets stings less if I can continue to get my dining and merchandise discounts in the parks. If it was buy day tickets and you get no discounts, I wouldn't come until passes were being sold again.

I agree, some framework of a timeline would be helpful. Even if it’s “we will reevaluate the pass holders program in 2022.” At least then people have the information that it’ll be at least 7 months (which is my guess). But it’s not like ToD ticket holders got notice that if they held out a few more weeks, they could have a reopened park. So I’m not expecting too much.

To be fair - you might be 100% correct on it ending April 30th.

When it was announced - I read it like what you're describing here - a way for people to keep their discounts while they have to buy regular tickets. Give folks an incentive to keep attending the park, even if they have to spend a little more to get there, and take the pressure off of having to do something for them ticket-wise right away.

(Either way, I was genuinely surprised they made magnets for it.)

I think it will continue the discount until we do have a new plan. From their page (emphasis from DIsney)- "Your new Legacy Passholder digital discount ticket will show an expiration date of April 30, 2021. Please note, this date will be automatically extended until new membership offerings are announced. Be sure to keep checking the app for an updated expiration date."

Fun with predictions, part nine:

If I had to bet, I'd wager that Legacy will hang around until Orange County is fully and comfortably in the mythic Green tier. If the advisory hangs around that long, I think they might even announce the Membership before the advisory goes away - it's one way they could incentivize locals to come out.

The one scenario where I think they might crack the Memberships open early - if they have trouble with weekday attendance once they're at 35% capacity. There were hints that they were considering a weekday/weeknight-only Membership - and I think that might fill that hole comfortably if it turns out that they need more incentive.

But I doubt they'll schedule a Membership announcement - not until they have a good sense of when they can start it. I'm assuming they'll mention it when they announce ticket sales, but I think they'll just say that the official announcement is coming at a later date.

They usually give out something like magnets for APs, so I thought that was predictable! That’s why I was curious. People on Etsy are already selling the design as buttons and shirts and all kinds of things...
I was surprised because Disney often uses magnets to encourage passholder attendance. (To be fair, WDW does this to a much larger degree than DLR - they'll specifically schedule them for dead parks during low periods.) And that clearly isn't the case at ToD or during the first weeks after reopening. It's partly why they don't mail them out, despite a lot of people wishing they would. It also seemed like a bit of an effort for something that might not last that long.

(On my multiple visits in 2019 and 2020, I think I only had a shot at one AP magnet, and it was a September Tuesday that they were offering a Halloween magnet - I think I only found out that AP Corner was there after I got home.)

Booked a hotel for November... it's nice to have a Disneyland date on the calendar again! But also a bit stressful to get back on the Disneyland corona-coaster again. :faint:

Hoping that my random dart throw at the calendar works out! Other than the out of state restriction being lifted, Avengers Campus being open is also a must for my kid. I would hope planning that far out will yield positive results though!

When I spoke to Get Away Today this morning they told me they're working out "their new contracts with Disneyland over the next two weeks for tickets". She mentioned for guests that like to use the layaway plan it's possible tickets will have to be paid in full to make a reservation which makes sense.

@TikiTikiFan - right? It was kind of nice to jump off that Corona-coaster for a while. (And I've since made two trips to WDW in October and a few weeks ago - though I do have to say Californian government would probably keel over dead at the amount of "social distancing" that isn't happening there sometimes...) I have off-site hotel reservations for a few days each month starting the end of July, just being hopeful, haha. I will go back before a new pass program is announced for sure, and I would LOVE to be there opening day if I was a local, but it may be some time before we out-of-staters are allowed into the park. We are taking the kids to the beach in June, but that's besides the point. Even if we're allowed in by then, I'm not paying several thousands of dollars for tickets to take the whole family in masks, especially not in summer heat. That would be a disaster. We won't schedule a whole-family trip until there isn't a mask requirement anymore, but I might bring 1-2 of the older kids at a time with me if it works out sometime this fall. So many unknowns still, but it will be super interesting to see how it all plays out!

There is a thin possibility Orange county could be at Yellow by the time the park opens.

Just a heads up, part of Disney's agreement with the unions was the mask requirement thru 2022. To drop the masks will require union negotiation.

Everyone 16 and older in AZ can get vaccines starting tomorrow! I’ve had mine for months (teacher) but I’m excited for my husband. I’ll feel so much better about traveling in general once he’s fully vaccinated, but especially to busier places like DL. The kids and I wear a mask all day, so masks are no big deal. I feel weirder without one now! Crazy how much changes in a year!
