Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

For Food+Wine it was reasonably priced morsels of equal value. It doesn't appear that the six kiosks will have the same between a Monte Cristo vs DoleWhip - so value card is more reasonable.

I would have loved a $75 charge with $50 do whatever Disney card to also pay for parking fee. This allows flexibility on options yet value of coming in and spending the $75. The food costs really is minimal.

Then again, people will pay for this at the beginning anyways. They will adjust; hence the intiial three weeks. If they find demand issue, they can easily pivot to something like above.

If you think it’s too much, don’t go?

I'm not. I shared the article with my husband, who promptly laughed and said "yeah, no." I'm not even upset about it, to be honest. I was looking forward to this but honestly expecting it to cost no more than $50. I guess that is what I value 8 hours in a park with no rides to be worth.

I'll save that $300 towards whatever insanely expensive annual pass they decide to offer, because once the parks FULLY open, I will pay anything they want to get back to having fun with my kids.

In the meantime, I'll go to Joe's to get my Dole whip fix. At least there you can get the pineapple swirled with vanilla ice cream.

This actually brings back a question I was ruminating on for a while: what is the value from attractions in Disneyland? Granted that changes based on ticket/pass type.

I’ve had Disney days where I go on no/few rides and still love my day. There is still a premium to be charged for sure for a ride less Disney day (compared to a ride less knotts day for example) I just think 50 bucks is too steep a premium for DCA. I think they are severely dropping the ball by not doing this at Disneyland and just keep doing what they are doing with DCA.

this is Disney Corp after all...profits must be made at all times, at all costs. I mean I drove down for a 36 hr trip & easily spent $100 on a turkey leg, crummy cheese on a stick w/a beer meal, some caramel apples & a sweater in 2 hrs! not including the hotel for the night..and I'm not a AP holder so I got no discounts...all for that 'taste' of something disney.
the light at the end of the tunnel is near...even at a $75 disney 'touch'

But then when DL actually opens up, they can charge $150+ a day and no one can say, I was getting this free last month like they are saying now about DCA. The legacy pass holder deal will be something like 5 days for the price of 3 for the first 6-12 months until demand slows and capacity increases enough to support any sort of AP program.

$75 with $25 credit is too stingy agreed. $75 with $40-50 credit - people will get behind that a lot more. Charge for parking. People are used to that.

The trouble is - capacity limits and they will be watching this.

If they threw in an exclusive pin for the reopening - would there be a larger run just for that pin? D23 mornings would say -- yes.

In light of pricing for taste of disney, it has me thinking about the actual reopening of the parks. Now. That we don't have passes anymore, how do you think they will do the reservation process? Will people who still have "valid tickets" get fist dibs and then they will open ticket sales? I feel like they will open ticket sales shortly before announcing reopening. Or will they do some sort of legacy pass holder reservation tier? I want to be ready lol

I saw tickets at my Target back in Dec. I’m sure because I did a double take, a whole wall of 2 day Hoppers. I wish I would have bought some then!

If you think it’s too much, don’t go?

As for me,
1) my favorite ride will be open — VGC lobby
2) Monte Cristo, I’m already slobbering 🤤
3) A leisurely stroll through Grizzly Peak with no crowds

I wonder if they will let people hang out in the lobby if they are not staying there?

It's expensive, but if we were still locals, we'd probably go. But we are a couple with no kids. It's been said before, but I don't think families with kids are the target demographic for this. Seems kinda boring for kids, overall.

I would rather see it at Disneyland, but maybe DCA's larger walkways makes them able to fit more people, so more tickets sold?

Frankly, I'm happy to see any progress towards a full reopening, so I feel this is great news!

We are locals and former APs and are very much looking forward to when DL opens for real, but I am not even contemplating this event at this price point.

We’ve done the past 2 festivals at Knotts and have tickets for the upcoming Boysenberry fest. We get more than enough food and drinks at those and the tickets a lot less ($45/adult, $20/kid). No, it’s not Disney but they do a great job with theming, decorating, food, etc. The appeal to the kids is somewhat limited, and I’d love to see one of these festivals address that (cookie decorating kits, family entertainment, etc...trick-or-treat at Knotts was a big hit for our girls!)

We went to Buena Vista Street in Jan and were not into it. This was our first visit to DTD since Covid. We were there when there was no dining at all, but still - we couldn’t even get in a store without waiting in a huge line. For us there were too many lines and nothing to do... plus it was kind of sad seeing DCA as a sort of ghost-town...

Once things are opened up, I’m sure we’ll go back to DL. Our littlest is 3, obsessed with Frozen and doesn’t remember our last visit to a Disney Park. Our family is very into Disney when things are “normal”, and has enjoyed many visits, meetups with grandparents, festivals, WDW trips, etc but plain and simply when paying the Disney premium, we want a premium experience. I’m nervous to see what the experience will look like when the park reopens...

If we didn’t have two kids (who would find a ride-less park boring and cruel, lol), we’d gladly spend up to $100 to stroll the parks and soak it all in. Like others have mentioned, there’s a lot of pent up demand and folks are sitting on unspent piles of vacation money from the past year of zero travel.

I think DLR will be expensive (more so than usual) for the next year or so. The only thing I think will be cheaper are hotels, since attendance will be capped, conventions still on pause, and hotel supply will be ample.

I agree its at DCA because that's where all the previous food festivals have been, so the infrastructure is better designed there.

Our teens are dying to go so some families are the target demographic. :confused3 But we're the type to add an extra trip for seasonal food offerings and festivals, and I'm sure Disney has tracked us as a type of customer given how many surveys we do as AP holders and DVC.

Teens makes more sense. A couple posters here had mentioned kids, which I assumed meant elementary aged or younger. :)

Yes, agreed, my boys would have gone anyway as teens. I should have been more specific but I was really commenting more on younger kids, especially those who still qualify for kid pricing at Disney, when I said Disney wasn't as concerned about targeting families.

I agree that Disney is not targeting families with young kids for this event, and I don’t think they “need” to as they’ll sell tickets regardless.

Having said that, my seven-year-old very much wants to go. They had her at “Dole Whip.”

One thing I’m a little torn on... if the parks won’t be open until maybe June, July, or later, then there’s a more compelling reason to attend this type of event in the meantime. But if we get tickets for the end of April for her birthday (assuming it’s running then), and then they announce they’re opening in mid-May, it’s kinda like, huh, why are we bothering with this when we could come and do so much more in two weeks?

There hasn't been any further news on that assembly bill aside from LA and Orange County supporting it?

One thing to remember too is that orange tier also restricted parks to only local visitors so if they did manage to get it moved to orange that's still a pretty big restriction. The whole thing needs to be tossed out.

I'm planning for a WDW trip this summer but I still haven't bought airfare or anything else more concrete because I'm still hoping for good news. 😬

when $75 gets you a touch of disney, one wonders what the cost of a full bear hug of Disney with rides and entertainment will be. Probably not the $150 for one park we were accustomed to!

ETA I also like in the press release how food will be served "snack sized" aka "pay full price for half the food you'd normally get"
