Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

UMPPFFFF...
I was really thinking Tuesday's "odd" media event was a coordinated dance with the state. But the quotes in that article from DL President make me think... hmmm not so much.
Concur. This statement from the head of DLR kind of floors me. If the state isn’t “negotiating” or even talking with DLR... the Governor has been- and I’m sticking to FACTS based on what he has said/inferred (yeah I’ve been deleted once or twice or more times in this area 🤣)- misleading. And that’s at best.

they should just open, they won’t get ghosted then!
It is easy for everyone to say "Just open and force his hand." (Goes for everything from restaurants and hair salons and nail salons.) But what people don't get it it isn't as easy as it sounds. Why? Licensing. You do something that is classified going against the California Department of Public Health, other licensing agencies will also step in. Such as the Alcohol Beverage Control. A local restaurant who opened indoors against the mandate was cited on the alcohol license. Labor board can step in. OSHA has to inspect rides. Orange County has restaurant inspections. For hair and nail salons, they are licensed by the cosmotology board. There is just too many licenses to lose to "just open up."

This is why I'm surprised Disney hasn't started legal proceedings against the state. They could easily argue that the governor is keeping them closed arbitrarily and capriciously(I'm no lawyer, but I love those words!)

I'm sure there is a good reason why they haven't, but at least put more pressure on the state than just "Hey, open us up please!!"

There really seems to be no reason why Disneyland and Knott's can't open. The numbers, state wide, simply don't justify keeping them closed at this point and I have to assume that there IS no plan, nor have there been any meaningful moves towards issuing guidelines.
I suspect part of the lag is that we're (at least those of us who live in southern Calif) are always being told to do everything close to home to avoid spreading the illness. Commercials and health department updates always say to stay in our own area, even for leisure and travel. When the big theme parks open, there will certainly be people from out those area traveling to visit and then, of course, traveling home again.

It's only my own personal speculation about not wanting people traveling in and out of the area, but if that is the case, they could open with only allowing people to work and visit from their own county or area. It's very ridiculous that they cannot at least open the outdoor venues.

I’m being mildly facetious.

Disney also has the bankroll necessary to challenge that in court. Full nuclear option.

I think they should just open the gates on principle, everything from esplanade to Jolly Holliday. That’s shopping, restaurants, movie theater...same as DtD.

... they could open with only allowing people to work and visit from their own county or area...
That would be absurdly difficult for CMs to enforce. People forget that not everyone has a utility bill in their name or ID that shows their current address. ESPECIALLY in today’s difficult economic climate. And what are they supposed to do about APs? Force local APs to use them now? Wait to extend until all APs can enter and make everyone pay? Let local APs in for free?... none of that makes economic sense.

And who listens to those ads anymore? Not the folks going to zoos and aquariums 😂

I've thought about this as well....But Knotts has their hotel open and is offering packages for those attending their Fall-o-ween event. So that is encouraging people to travel.

Actually, it would not be too hard to police only from the county. Open the reservations to only those within zip codes XXXXX-YYYYY and have those be for OC only. Especially with APs, they have our addresses in their system and will know the address tied to the reservation. Granted Disney IT may not be that sophisticated, but that would be a way to do it. And then have security check IDs as people come in and only let those from OC in.

What about people who moved in the last few months and don’t have the necessary documents yet is my point. Those lucky enough to be able to prove their county of residence shall be granted entry to the Magic Kingdom. As if Disney doesn’t have a public perception problem it’s only for the rich 🙄 now it’s only for people who have their economic crap together and live in a chosen county? Disney won’t touch that idea with a 10 foot pole.
