Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

My county moved to red, too, so Yay!

I get confused though. So now OC has to stay in 'red' metrics for 3 weeks as well as meet 'orange' metrics for two weeks before it can move? But the red and orange metrics run concurrently so theoretically OC (and DL) could move to 'orange' in 3 weeks if they stay at 'red' for one week then move to orange for the next two.
Yes. Must meet the orange metric for at least 2 weeks (the last two I assume) and will be at red for at least 3 weeks. The soonest OC or any of the counties moved to red today can move to orange is September 29.

I think partially cost but also the lighting every night at WDW draws a big crowd with no way to really socially distance. Even without a mini show (they had Elsa light it up the last few years), people would still collect to watch it all light up every night. Having rotating projections is a good compromise.

Also the gingerbread houses can cause lots of crowding in the resort lobbies. Without those, there wouldn't be a "need" to visit many of them, unless you were staying there or had a dining reservation.

The cavalcades could actually provide more opportunities to see portions of the Christmas parade in WDW. Unlike DLR, for most of the season the parade runs only during the evening Christmas parties (exception is Christmas week up to NYE). It wouldn't be too hard to break it out into units and have them going down the route occasionally.

This is a good point, I didn't even think about the lighting! Disneyland would have this same issue with the castle lights and it's a small world Holiday. I would imagine because of that, those are both out of the question too. Those lightings get intense too, watching the lights turn on is a big deal haha. I always time it so we'd be in front of its a small world saving our spot for the second holiday parade so we'd see them turn on while we were waiting. And it would get so crowded over there. I wouldn't even mind being trampled by a stroller right now if we could have normalcy, is that weird? :rotfl2:

Were there anymore questions related to the theme parks? I know the remark he made a few minutes ago stemmed from a question.

Thanks! I'm trying so hard not to play the 'guessing game' but maybe we can start hoping for a November opening. I'm giving them leeway to 'go orange' + time to 'rev up'.

What makes guessing a timeline even more frustrating and difficult is has there hasn't been confirmation on whether or not the theme parks even adhere to the color list guidelines. Newsom keeps saying that they are separate. I wish he would expound on why, how, and what guidelines could theoretically look like.

Well if he keeps saying they’re separate, they’re probably gonna be separate. I suspect he can do that by filing it under “Californians will cross county lines anyway to go to theme parks so they should all be treated the same”

I gotta start watching this thread!!!!!

I started loosely following when Disneyland first closed down. With no trip on the horizon, it was too sad to keep speculating on when we would be able to take our next trip. But, that all changed today with purchasing our airfare for January! Can't wait and hope that we get some news quickly

Which could be BAD since most the state is still in Purple.

Some (potentially) good news. You’ll all recall that during Josh D’Amaro’s The Dow Report segment, it was implied (or readily inferred) that advance park reservations might be a permanent policy change. I wrote a letter to D’Amaro and expressed my opposition to that (if it were, indeed, being planned). I got a call about 15 minutes ago from Disney Guest Relations. My letter had been forwarded to them for reply. Coincidentally, it was a guy I’ve spoken with several times before about Buzz Lightyear issues. When he told me his name, I said immediately “Yes, I remember you.” He remembered me too. In short, he told me that he’s not aware of any plans to make advance reservations a permanent policy. So: that’s a relief! I want things to go back to the way they were (eventually). I’d hate to lose the magic of a surprise, spur-of-the-moment DL trip.

I also put in a commendation for Abby, the awesome plaid CM whom many of us have met. Oddly enough, he knows her and they’ve worked together in the past. So at least that’s one good thing for the day :-).

Is anyone else having trouble juggling all of the new bookings "just in case," changes to reservations, travel details, etc?? I'm not the most organized person in the world in spite of trying hard; it's just not my personality. I have all these sticky notes and a little binder but I've changed dates, flights, hotels, etc so often that I'm not sure what the heck I've got!

I think just going forward, I'm going to assume it will be crowded with filled parking. Since it seems like both weekends and weekdays are hitting capacity, I think I will just stick with weekends when i can arrive early in the day.

Also if you follow Gothic Rosie, she has a list of different parking options outside of the Simba lot. I've heard of many people parking at Anaheim Garden Walk, then walking to the parks into the Harbor entrance. Not sure how that side has been with the capacity situation.
We were in SoCal last weekend, staying at one of the resorts next to Gardenwalk. On Saturday, the Harbor side entrance was empty, no line both when we entered at 10 and when we left at 12:30. Tried to get a sandwich on the way out of town from Earl on Monday, so went to the Disneyland Hotel side (hoping my friend could just wait in the car while we popped in and out at 10am). We couldn't get into the Disneyland Hotel parking lot and the line from the Simba lot had at least 50 people and we were trying to beat traffic so left without sandwiches.

Yes🤣! I now have email folders with my original plans, another with back up plans...and another with the back up to the back up (which now needs to be changed because our school district just revised their calendar🤦‍♀️).
