Sucks but I understand. They know holidays are a big draw so they probably don’t want to cause more people to come based on decorations alone. The evenings during Christmas can be so packed because people come for the lights fireworks and shows.

If you read the release they are very much trying to draw people in with their decorations. They will have to put a decent chunk of change into all the resort & park decorating as well as Xmas cavalcades (They used the word float for MK?) in each park. Suspect the castle lights got cut for cost savings.

Funny, it will make MK in WDW feel more like DLR during Xmas since reindeer & gingerbread men will be out during the day instead of behind a hard ticket event.

True but when will we get news? If you’re traveling from out of state hoping for a holiday trip, some news would be helpful. I just don’t want to sniff the breadcrumbs anymore. I really hope they still do the overlays and castle lights for DL though!

ETA: and keep in mind we already know there won’t be a holiday parade, WOC or fireworks. The more that gets taken away, the harder it is to justify. We love DLR at the holidays- I’d be too sad knowing what I’m missing. But I can see how it won’t be a big deal for others!

WDW finally released their holiday info. No holiday party or candlelit processional which isn’t surprising. They are decorating but sounds minimal- no castle lights. Don’t think that bodes well for Disneyland decor/themes- like it’s a small world holiday/HM overlay/castle lights.

I promise to not complain about these going away this year if it means Disneyland can at least open during the holidays. I will carry a packet of Swiss Miss and a below-average cookie into the park and take a physically distanced photo if it means I can at least be on Main Street this holiday season. Please oh please

Also, not sure if anyone posted this yet, but I saw this morning that Hong Kong Disneyland is ready to reopen again and is awaiting their government guidance.

I would hope this is a sign they’ll be opening up 2021 dates soon! Makes my December cancellation feel a tiny little bit less depressing if I can book 2021 right away!

The CA COVID site has officially updated OC to red before the news conference. Still nothing of theme parks. But still, Seeing the red is definitely is a happy sight to behold

I think partially cost but also the lighting every night at WDW draws a big crowd with no way to really socially distance. Even without a mini show (they had Elsa light it up the last few years), people would still collect to watch it all light up every night. Having rotating projections is a good compromise.

Also the gingerbread houses can cause lots of crowding in the resort lobbies. Without those, there wouldn't be a "need" to visit many of them, unless you were staying there or had a dining reservation.

The cavalcades could actually provide more opportunities to see portions of the Christmas parade in WDW. Unlike DLR, for most of the season the parade runs only during the evening Christmas parties (exception is Christmas week up to NYE). It wouldn't be too hard to break it out into units and have them going down the route occasionally.

I would be very surprised to see Holiday overlays of Haunted Mansion and it's a small world this year. It just takes way too much time, energy & man power and of course MONEY.

I do not expect much of an announcement today other than the first "reclass" of counties within the 4 tiers. If there was to be a theme park announcement I would guess that there would be an announcement that they are going to be released ahead of the press conference.

Interesting to note when poking at the other counties that OC is the only one to be updated. All the others I looked at were dated 8-31.

With OC in red that means they can have indoor dining. So I wonder how long before DTD reopens their indoor seating?

A total of 5 counties went from Purple to Red (Amador, Orange, Placer, Santa Clara & Santa Cruz) No other changes will be made until next week.

The Counties has to change their county orders before they can open indoor. My guess is this will happen by Friday. Counties seems to like to reopen on Friday. Or at least mine has.

Oh right! Forget the chain of command lol. I feel like OC would change theirs either today or tomorrow. They seem to change theirs ASAP if they can.

I get confused though. So now OC has to stay in 'red' metrics for 3 weeks as well as meet 'orange' metrics for two weeks before it can move? But the red and orange metrics run concurrently so theoretically OC (and DL) could move to 'orange' in 3 weeks if they stay at 'red' for one week then move to orange for the next two.

I’m sorry that’s the case for you, gottalovepluto. Thankfully,that isn’t the case here in OC, based on what I’ve seen and experienced. Tons of free testing; I received my results in 3 days when I was tested. It was so simple. And I didn’t even need to be “screened”. Plus I know CVS is doing them drive through. And anyone on KP insurance can get them done for free and easy at any KP testing location. I hope things get better for you!

Agreed, free testing in SF has been great & readily available including in San Mateo County (according to friends). Gotten results no later than 24hrs. They do ask a series of screening questions symptom wise but you can still get tested if you may have been exposed & easily book online. The only drawback is you likely are not able to get same day appts. CVS also has testing.
