On another forum I found, they've talked about some security officers not allowing lenses over a certain length into the parks, I guess because they don't want people taking pictures of famous people? Anyone here experienced that? I wanted to take my big lens the day we see Aladdin so that I could get some good shots, even if we are at the back. I use it alot at WDW to shoot elements of the castle, but since DLs castle is smaller, I don't think I'll want it for that. We'll only take it the one day because it weighs so much, I wouldn't want to haul it more than one day anyway. Especially since we will have already hauled it for several days on the whale watches we are doing.

Just wondering if they are really going to give me a hard time or if it's just every so often. We'll be there on a Mon-Wed, so the famous people will probably have the famous kids in school and be working themselves.

I'm not sure what the restrictions are.

But I'm guessing you can't take flash photos in Aladdin anyway.

Awhile back there was a whole thread on this subject. Maybe someone has the link to that thread or you might be able to search for it but I know a lot of people have been having trouble with the search function.

There *was* a ridiculous policy about camera lenses that was put in effect in early October. BUT, they've really eased off and realized that it wasn't the smartest thing to do. It was put in place to stop paparazzi, since so many celebs visit DL. But there were a lot of complaints from every day guests after the policy was rolled out, and the powers that be realized that a less restrictive policy would be better. Now, lenses of any length are allowed, conditional upon your intent.

You may be stopped at bag check and asked questions about your intentions--e.g. are you taking professional photos for commercial purposes or just as a tourist. But most everyone should be fine. I've brought my 70-300 lens twice since the policy became less restrictive and the bag check folks never batted an eyelash. I went through without being questioned nor asked to take my lenses out of the bag. In fact I used it to take pictures of the Aladdin show just last Saturday. Go for it tzuhouse! That's the perfect show for the big lens. :goodvibes

From what I understand as well, it hasn't been as much of an issue as it was a couple of months ago. It was an absurd and excessive policy enforcement by "some" security personnel at the bag check lines. Some folks reported problems, others didn't experience it. I wouldn't hesitate to attempt to bring in my normal gear on our next trip.

What lens are you referring to with regards to your big lens? I typically will carry my Nikon D300 w/grip and mounted with either the 70-300VR or 70-200VR f/2.8. Below is an example of a shot I took at Aladdin back in August using the 70-300VR. We were seated pretty close to the rear of the theater.

Have a great time, don't sweat it, and enjoy your picture taking! :thumbsup2

THANKS! Danny, that's exactly the type of shot I'm going for. Glad to hear they aren't being so strict with the policy. The lens is a Nikon 75-300mm.

Anxious to get there. Time is beginning to sssssllllloooooowwww down, the closer it gets. :rotfl2:

I was in the parks for Halloween, our last day was November 7.

I did bring my Canon DLR with my 300 mm zoom lens. No problems at all. The CMs were more keen on opening my pin bag than being bothered about my camera. Exactly once a CM made a comment, and said comment was "oh, you got a camera in there, too."
