Hey everyone!

Does anyone remember the name of the restauraunt that one of the DL correspondants reviewed on Long Beach? It was on one of the DL podcasts about a year ago. All I remember is she kept talking about buckets of food and it sounded good!

We leave in a few days for a 9 day trip to socal. 4 days on Laguna Beach and 4 days at DLH. So excited :cool1:! Just trying to wrap up my research for the trip.

Any other recommendations for food in Laguna or Long Beach are welcome!

TIA!

It's on the 3/26/09 show. About 52 minutes into the show.

The restaurant was called Rockin' Baja Coastal Cantina in Newport Beach.

There are 6 of them in SoCal. We have only been to the the Newport Beach location.
We went there after hearing the report and it is now one of our favorite places to go when in the area.
Make sure you go during happy hour. Lots of things were 1/2 off.
We will be in SoCal in a month and will visit again. YUMMY food.
ENJOY!!!!

Here is the link to the sites restaurant

Thanks for the link Wendy :flower3:

I'm part of the Podcast-ABD trip group and my husband & I are arriving 3 days early and staying in Huntington Beach. I was thrilled to see that they have a restaurant there too.

We've already planned on going to Capone's for Italian, but needed another place. This sounds perfect - Thanks again :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. I thought you reviewed it Wendy. Any other local places you recommend?

Can't wait to try the place in just a few more days!!!

I can recommend a few places if you go up into the heart of Los Angeles, Pasadena, the Valley, or Santa Monica/West LA/Venice.

Let me know!

We will be there the same week as the ABD group. We are going to Rockin' Baja for sure. Love the place. Also Pei Wei too. They closed all of ours in NorCal and we eat there when we are in SOCal.
So what other places can you recommend for the NorCal people. We are going to in BH one day, what's there that's good and not over priced? Anything?
We are staying in Newport Coast. Anything you can recommend around there? :confused3

Wow - we don't have Pei-wei here in the Burbank/Glendale/North Hollywood area.

Do you want fancy, traditional Bevery Hills (which might be pricey) or a little small place just at the edge of their city limits> If the later is the case, Go to Robertson Avenue and Olympic (turn south if you are coming down Wilshire Blvd). Robertson has a plethora of good eats at a variety of prices.

One of our favorites is Al Gelato. It's cross street is Gregory Way (3 blocks north of Olympic). Cash only and the best cannolis in town. Believe me. I've looked for better and haven't found them. The house pasta is rigatoni and their meatballs are as big as my fist. The house salad is nice, with a good balsamic, and their desserts are incomparable. The apple pie is 4 inches tall.... They make all their own gelato, too.

If you want to feel like a movie star and see some, Further up Robertson -south of Beverly and north of Alden, is The Ivy. This is the famous little bistro that the papparazzi watch daily. The Newsroom is across the street, and has upscale sandwiches and salads, with a focus on organic and healthy. A few doors south, just past Kitson and Lisa Kline, is Cuvee. It was my husband's favorite place to eat when he worked in that area. If you want down to Beverly Blvd, just across the street from Cedars Sinai Med Center, (just west of La Cienega and the Beverly Center) is Jerry Deli. Another celebrity hangout and very tasty New York deli.

Since I live up north, I have almost no knowledge of the OC, except for a couple Hawaiian places... Great Hawaiian food down that way...

I guess I should start making a blog of this stuff, huh? ;)

My favorite near the parks is 1.5 miles away and its called Koji's. Its Sushi/Shabu Shabu. If you are asking yourself what is Shabu Shabu you must try it. Its Japanese fondue and its super healthy. It comes with a plate of vegatables like cabbage, onions, spinich, mushrooms, carrots etc. They also give you a plate of paper thin beef. In front of you there is a hot pot of bowling water. You cook the items yourself and you have two sauces. Of course rice comes with the meal. Its one of my favorite meals and I even took a gourmet cooking class on how to make it at home.
The sushi is amazing and you must try a saki plum martini. It's located at the Block at Orange which I believe the ART goes there. Its great outdoor Ca mall as well. Cool surf shops and it has a skate park.

Thanks but I think we are staying around the OC the first part of the week and Anaheim the 2nd part of the week. Normally we are all over the place but we a 3 month old baby in tow this time, we are taking it easy.

That sounds awesome! I have never heard of it but everyone in our group would love it!

Nancy, can you give me the name of the Hawaiian places my daughter would love those too.

Thanks everyone.
