I'd love some opinions from you guys, if you don't mind...

I'm renting a lens to take on our trip in Nov / Dec. If you all had your choice, would you prefer a 50mm f/1.4 or a 85mm f/1.4 for Disneyland? I currently have the 50mm reserved but I'm really starting to think maybe the 85mm would be a better bet.

Thanks!! :goodvibes

Are you shooting with a full frame or cropped sensor? I would honestly go with the 50, but that's just because for myself I feel like the 85 would be too limiting for the way I like to shoot at the park. Good luck deciding, either way I think you'll end up with some great stuff and hope you'll share when you get back! :)

Thanks for the reply.

It's a Nikon D40, so it has a 1.5x crop factor. I keep going back and forth...maybe I'll just stick with the 50mm. :lmao::thumbsup2

I know how you feel! :laughing: I constantly go back and forth about stuff like that. I'm getting ready to invest in a 50mm, pretty excited about it. I'm going with the 1.8 just to get started, but will likely end up with the 1.4 next year. If you end up choosing it, I'll look forward to hearing how you liked it. Hopefully maybe Roger and some more of the more experienced people can chime in too!

Oh I sure will let you know....I can't WAIT to get my hands on it. I've also gone back and forth, back and forth between ponying up for a 1.8 and a 1.4 and then decided that while I can't justify the cost of purchasing a 1.4 before the trip, I can rent one! But then renting one for 2 weeks is about 1/2 the cost of buying a 1.8...can you see where this is going? :rotfl:

:rotfl: Yep, definitely see where that is going. No matter which option you take, you're going to end up with a great lens and I'm sure get some amazing shots. So there is solace in that! :goodvibes If you're planning on/thinking of buying the 1.4 in the near future, I'd probably rent the 1.4 now and go that route.
